Plainly stated CJ’s is the best! Best food, best atmosphere, best people, best price. CJ’s is like the Cheers of luncheonettes. They are friendly, hospitable and thoroughly entertaining. I love the stories, pride of ownership and obviously the food. CJ’s is great for lunch and equally as good for catering. Their sloppy joes are great for parties, tailgating or just for casual get togethers. I’ve been going here since the 1970’s when we would get sandwiches to take to the Giant’s games. CJ’s is an iconic Madison dinning institution!

Nice small combo deli/grill. 10 seats at the counter and two or three small tables. Breakfast sandwich menu includes all the basics– 4.75 for egg ham and cheese… Decent amount of egg/meat. Decent coffee. Nice staff. Quiet place, not crowded or crazy. I approve!

This place definitely has that local, unpretentious feel. You can eat-in or out. The food was really good(we had sandwiches at lunch) and the prices and portions are unbeatable.

I love this place! When in town I make sure to come here at least once. The owners are so friendly and the food is outstanding. I wish we had a place like this back home in AZ.

I went there today because I was craving a turkey and provolone sub. I have been here many times over the years, but this was my last time. Don’t get me wrong, everything was fresh. The problem was and is a total lack of meat on my sub. It was only 4 slices of low grade turkey breast and a couple of slices of provolone. I could barley see it on the roll under all the toppings. If I wanted a salad sub, I would have ordered one. The last time I went there, I thought it was just anomaly that there was so little roast beef on my sub. They are just very stingy on the meats. There are other places around to get a much better sub. Like Chatham Sandwich Shop in Chatham and Longfellows in Morristown.

Combination diner and deli, sit at the counter up front for a meal or order a takeout sandwich in back. Picked up Italian sandwiches, 12 inches of bread, meats, cheeses, tomato, lettuce and hot peppers for $ 7.50, nice value for a very good sandwich. Staff at C & J’s Deli was helpful and quick to crank out my lunch. Thanks!

Hands down the best sloppy joe in NJ! Right amount meat and cheese and just sloppy enough so that it’s not overwhelming as is the case with many other sloppy joes you will have in the area. Having grown up in Madison C. J’s has always been THE place to go for a fast delicious and hearty meal. If you are a regular you’ll feel like you are a part of the family, if you are not their staff will make you feel like one!

Other then big J’s badly butchered attempt of wit and humor and the fact that it took him 7 years to graduate HS… He has kept the legacy, tradition, quality and nostalgia created since the inception of CJ’S Deli. No where in the metropolitan area(and Ive searched tirelessly) will you find a better Sloppy Joe, no where, no madda wut! 5 Stars doesn’t suffice, I’m adding more! LE

For a deli, really nice. They have a good variety of foods, and their soups can be really nice. I would recommend getting a sandwich, always fresh made.

Sadly, this place could be a gem. Unfortunately, if you don’t know anyone working, you can’t expect decent service. They are slow, quite rude(more than your typical Jersey chip on the shoulder), and don’t really care if your food need has been fulfilled. If you know them, the interaction is completely different — playful, fun and sincere. The food is good. Not great, but standard fair for a diner style deli. The reason it isn’t 3 stars is because they didn’t make my sandwich correctly and wouldn’t correct the mistake. I didn’t know anyone there…

John and his crew give CJ’s a hometown feel that is very hard to find these days. Best Sloppy Joe anywhere, and always a friendly greeting when you come and go. Everything I have ever ordered there was delicious, and none of the«2 slices of meat and call it a deli sandwich«you get from other Deli’s today. Definitely worth a return trip.

The last of the true old school places to get a real breakfast or lunch. The sloppy joe here is the best I have ever tasted. I have tasted most… Not to mention it is the cleanest place I have ever been. Anywhere.

Nice Italian Deli. The House«Sub»(Italian hoagie) was really great! There is a bar to eat at. Many varieties of chips, and great tasting hoagies! The location is kinda hard to find from the very small parking lot, which can also be challenging to find a spot. Patience while parking reaps great rewards.

Not only are the staff some of the nicest people ever(they gave me free pastries because they just made a new batch and couldn’t justify selling«old» pastries even though they were from the night before), the food is crazy. Got some of the home made, frozen gnocchi to bring home and cook. Craziness. The sandwiches are also very good at a great price. I go back here all the time, absolutely love the establishment

CJ’s deli is the best place to go to when in Madison, NJ. Growing up n New Jersey, my parents would take me to this delicatessen for the best taylor ham, egg and cheese, and their signature«Sloppy Joe». My parents were born and raised in Madison, NJ and grew up eating at CJ’s deli; although we now live in North Carolina, this is still a stopping point for the Earley family when in the Tri-State Area.

I come to the North East every Aug to get out of the Texas heat and there are always 3 essentials to making my trip complete. 1. Bagel from NYC with cream cheese 2. A big slice of meatball pie 3. Sloppy Joe from CJs This place is the definition of an institution. It’s full of locals grabbing a hot coffee, a buttered roll, and the daily gossip/news. They are friendly to those who come 5 times a week or only once a year. And hands down the best Sloppy Joe around. These guys set the standard on a deli who knows how to make food from scratch and create a place that is more than just food.

All I know is that my mother has lived in Madison her whole life and she always talks about getting the best sloppy joe sandwiches here. So I decided to surprise her and pick one up last Friday after work. I will keep it sweet and short. Moms never lie.
