Overpriced prefab(frozen, canned) bar food. Not worth the $ 86.00 we paid for 4 meals, fries, burgers, chicken tenders and soft drinks. Dour server. I wouldn’t go back.

This place has some amazing history. We had visited at 4pm on a Sunday, three tables with guests, total. Waitress was not friendly, order was screwed up– however the Burger and Mac and Cheese were worth the wait. The music in the bar was plugged in from someone’s phone running Pandora and kept fading out as they received multiple text messages. Glad we didn’t sit on the padio, as it smells like most of the Mackinaw streets(aroma de road apples). This is a place worth a stop to soak up some history!

It was a chilly day on the island so I ordered the soup of the day. They were gracious and allowed me a sample to make sure I was making the right ordering choice. It was delicious: Italian chicken and tomato. I also ordered a ‘stang summer to drink and it was great, too. The history of the bar is fun and just the icing on the cake!

We could NOT have been more disappointed in the food. Especially with the reviews we read on Unilocal before choosing the restaurant, and after asking the waitress to weigh two options. The fries were CLEARLY a frozen bag of crinkle cut fries. The burger was a frozen patty that was thrown on the grill and tossed on a bun. I have not had a worse burger at a restaurant or even a crappy company picnic. Everything we ate I would have rather ordered from a fast food joint. The first star is for a pretty fun and engaging waitress. The 2nd pity star just because of its location and history. No stars for food. It really put our trip to the island off on the wrong foot.

The food was just fine. Heavily battered onion rings. Rueben sandwich was tasty, but very greasy. Hamburger was fine. Fries were frozen kinkle cut. Beer selection was limited because they were out of several.

Best place to eat on the island. This is where the islanders(including workers) eat — and there are great reasons! #1 Exceptional food — the food didn’t used to be this great at the Mustang. I worked on the island in the 90’s and it was… meh. Deep fried mushrooms were my favorite then. Now, though? The burgers are AAAHHHHMAZING! It’s odd, because they don’t seem like anything special, but they are just downright delicious. Mushroom Swiss burger — off the hook. #2 Exceptional service — Chad was our server/bartender both of the most recent times that I was in the Mustang. He was fun, friendly and got a great tip. Also cool that the owners are around and available. Tony’s a great guy to chat with and knows a ton about the island and it’s history. #3 Prices — For anyone who has visited the island, you are well aware of how expensive it is to eat there. While the Mustang isn’t CHEAP by mainland standards, it’s very reasonable for the island. My burger/fries/pickle was $ 12.99 and worth every bite. #4 Atmosphere — this place has personality from the back to the front.

This was a major lowlight to the Mackinac experience. The bartender acted like he was doing really important work, like changing the channel, wiping off already dry glasses, wearing a shirt that advertised the fucking bar we were already in!!! Pretty much everything except pouring more drinks. I sat with an empty drink for over 15 minutes. The place was empty, there is no excuse for him to not offer me another. We won’t be back.

Here’s why I give the mustang so much praise. Their wait staff is really good, their pizza is dynamite, the wings are a must, the bartenders are fast and friendly(Dave, Jared and the others I can’t remember all their names) and probably one of the best places to watch a game!

The servers were downright surly and had no care whatsoever about being friendly, bringing what we asked for, or even serving the food without spilling it. The draught selection is underwhelming(the two«local» craft beers tasted like Budweiser with a splash of Michelob) and everything was just eh. The patio is dirty and sticky and offers a view of a side street of the island. Go somewhere with a view of the water and at least get your money’s worth.

Good food. We had the BLT dip, mac and cheese sandwich and bean soup. All were delicious and flavorful. The building is supposed to be one of the oldest in Michigan so it has a cool vibe to it.

I’d never been to the Island before, and I was NOT disappointed by this place! There was five of us and we were all extremely happy with our food. The corned beef sandwiches were not skimpy with the meat, which is a huge plus. My chicken sandwich was excellent. The fries were tasty. I can’t wait to try other things on the menu. Our server, Laura, was excellent in every way. She kept our pops refilled, explained when our food was delayed by the huge number of people there(instead of just letting us wonder), and even helped us with directions on finding some of the tourist spots we wanted to check out. All with a smile and a good sense of humor. I plan to return to the Island again at some point. I fully intend to eat here when I do!

Cool bar with some history. Service is good, good selection of beers and food. Definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in the history of drinking on Mackinac Island.

Was here with Bro in Law with our combined five children. We got good seats and the service was excellent. Food was awesome and beers were cold. I had the lunch special which was skillet fried perch. Wife had the same and my Lil Man had a kids cheese burger which was HUGE. Fries with everything. Without kiddos this would have been an even better experience and more chilled but I highly recommend the joint and if ever in that neck of the woods again will make sure and stop in. Lastly they offer Military Discount which is a huge plus for me. Truly appreciated it.

Waitress brought our menus and took drink order pop, took our food order in a reasonably time. I ordered steak sandwich, wife ordered chicken. Sandwiches were large I asked for steak sauce,.5 minutes later waitress came by asked how everything wAs. I again asked for steak sauce she went and got it. Realized we never received silver ware., wife said she did not use mayo cause it was sitting in table when we sat down… how long was it there? …steak sandwich was very greasy! Bill came $ 34.09 i put in $ 35. Waitress ever brought back change so we left she got too much of a tip but live and learn

Good service & beer & tasty bar food. Cool vibe being in the oldest building on the island. Enjoy a good selection of classic rock while eating. Stop here after you have biked around the island so there is no guilt about calories being consumed.

CONSUMERALERT — SKIIP this place on your next visit. BEWARE — The staff is extremely rude, will accuse you of falsely stealing, and over charge you for drinks beyond the menu price. The BBB was notified.

Been to the stang numerous times, and I love it. Food is pub food, so if you’re health conscious, you can do what I did and get a chicken sandwich just don’t eat the bun or fries. It is good pub food though and drink prices are reasonable.

Get the bloody Mary. Spicy and bacon vodka. Soups are really good too. Had a home town tavern feel and not the touristy feel from many of the other places on the island.

I guess it isn’t completely fair to review a place before we get the food but the wait AFTER we ordered was ridiculous. Asked to get our fries first and after we asked again about when food was coming out, waitress added that fries would be out«soon.» So fries arrived after 40 min and food after about a 50 min wait. Upped my review from one star to two because food was pretty good but maybe that was because a piece of cardboard would have tasted good after nearly an hour wait. It think part of the reason we were thrown was that we got seated right away, at about 1:20pm…THEN proceeded to wait. Shouldn’t be a shock to be busy in high tourist season…

Had the pleasure of eating here whilst out snowmobiling around Michigan the other day. We had the joy of crossing to Mackinac Island over the ice, and needed a place to lunch. The lounge is small, but frequented by many snowmobilers. There were quite a few locals at the bar as well. Here is the basic menu for most spots in Michigan so far as I can tell: pizza, fried appetizers, and burgers. So… I continued my burger tour of Michigan and ordered a burger with provolone on it. It was served hot and fresh, with fries, which were good. I would give the burger 2 of 5 stars. Everyone else had burgers too and seemed to enjoy them a great deal. The bar was a full one, along with some craft beers. The lounge in general had a reasonably appealing ambiance and would likely return here if I ever return to Mackinac Island. I would definitely bring visitors here.
