We loved the live music, but the service was severely lacking. Please do not pass around plates from one side of table to the other side. Our waiter left every empty bottle and plate on the table. Warning: If you get the pork chop, don’t waste your money on that piece of rubber. I kept hoping the next time I would come, they would have fixed the problems. This is the last time I waste my time and money.

The funky door has a chance to be a white elephant in a one horse town. But you need to polish the service and quality before you knock out walls and expand.(Hint) We loved having the live music from the bar it was not too loud. Since we don’t drink wine, Don’t leave the encyclopedia of wine and remove the wine glasses. Please ask the servers to move around the table to place food, mother taught us not to reach across the table in front of your guests. Don’t drop off plates in front of the ladies to be passed around. Please bring out skewers before the fondue, not after we remind you? Give us a little time to receive our appetizers before pressing for the main course, this isn’t a drive through. Take away dirty dishes before we stack them to make room. Please bring a dessert menu when asking what we would like. BTW, The bananas foster is not banana pudding melted in a dish. These suggestions help me feel good when I drop 150 for dinner. Keep trying, I would like to come back.

Love this place! Always great service and delicious food. Tonight my friends and I had 2 fondues and a wine selection, and it made for a perfect evening.

The food is GREAT, however, we live so close and have gone fairly often for the food but EXPECT the service to be bad. We have left several times angry because of the service, they are poorly trained or short-handed or have no bartender on during lunch. Most memorably my husband had made reservations for my birthday on Open Table and they called the day OF and cancelled saying they were overbooked and it was Texas Tech graduation so we couldn’t get in anywhere else due to the late notice. He called to complain, but the«oh well, too bad» attitude he got was ridiculous. We were sent a $ 50 voucher and went back for HIS birthday, which ended up with us never being asked for drink refills nor dessert, and we were there for 2 hours. So we left and went to Las Brisas for dessert and drinks. It’s unfortunate that even for lunch, the food is still always good, but the service isn’t. The right side of the restaurant is nicer with cloths on the tables, but isn’t always open(probably because of lack of servers).

If I had to have one meal everyday for the rest of my life it might be Funky Door’s fondue. In my opinion, their happy hour is the best in town. My husband and I love to go here for date nights and the staff is always friendly. Props to their bar tender, I’ve never had a bad drink, and my husband loves their beer selection. We’ll be going today and I can’t wait!

I’ve eaten here twice over a span of 3 – 4 years. The first time was as part of a bachelorette party. They were well prepared and did a great job of catering to the atmosphere of our evening. Our waiter was hilarious and made it a really fun time. I remember that I split fondue with an add on with two other girls and also had a martini that was a seasonal special. They are both extremely memorable which was why so many years later I was nagging my husband to take me here! We went yesterday for the fondue for 2 lunch special. We had the fiesta fondue with pepper jack cheese. I expected it to have a nice heat to it which it definitely did not. However it was still delicious! We added chicken and filet mignon tips as well as using the bread pieces it comes with. The only complaint I have was that the prices quoted on the Unilocal menu AND on the actually paper menu we were given were different than what we were charged. On Unilocal it says the fondue for two lunch special is $ 25 and it was actually $ 27. The additional charge for a second add on(filet mignon tips) was $ 12 when the paper menu we were given said $ 10. Since it was not a huge discrepancy we didn’t bring it up with the restaurant but I do find it misleading. The lunch fondue comes with a soup or salad and I will say the garden salad with a port wine vinaigrette was AMAZING.

I recommend you go to Panda Express down the road. It seems nice, but 2 hours waiting for food and no one in sight to inquire was minor in the overall horrid experience. No refills on water, at least in prison you get bread and water and they check on you time to time, not here! I ordered scallops… Refrigerator cold, took a good bite to discover this. Pretty sure I will be sick from that. My wife had chicken in a salad… Cold chicken. I am writing this quick as there may be no one to tell the tale when we are dead. Manager came out and tried to explain, pretty sure she did not know we were waiting two hours. We ordered salads… Important note because to make up for this horrid expirience they brought cheese cake to go… Most places would comp something, not this place! Full price for everything which was crazy expensive. I could drive to Dallas and go to Capital Grille and have good service and be the same price. You have been warned… i hope I survive the night.

Great atmosphere – Better Service! My wife and I actually came to Funky Door recently to salvage what was left of our date night, due to a very underwhelming experience at another nearby restaurant. All that to say, Funky Door definitely redeemed the night! The wait staff was very friendly, the atmosphere and lighting was exactly what you want out of date night restaurant and the menu was amazing! Our waiter James was very nice and prompt in serving us, as well as pointing out the specials and making it clear that quality service is valued at this restaurant. My wife and I decided to order a martini for each other since they were the $ 5 special, and then we split the Candy Bar fondue. If you have never eaten the candy bar fondue, you need to go there immediately and order it! Milk chocolate, peanut butter and caramel. It comes with a side of angel food cake and we got fruit as well. Absolutely amazing! Overall, this was a great experience and next time we will be spending our whole date night there! Also, live music to boot, and you can’t beat The Eagles!

Don’t let the hole in the wall strip mall thing put you off. Cool vibe inside — very urban. Great menu — really weird but yummy take on Chicken Tikka Masala. I had it thinking I was totally blowing my diet and would have to leave half of it but it was not covered in the usual creamy sauce I expected. The spices were part of the marinade but the chicken was not swimming in it. There were veggies instead of rice. For me, it was perfect. We were there when they had a special for wine flights — $ 10 for three wines. We tried the reds and not only were they all very good but they were presented rather amazingly in a big swirly iron glass holder. Cool and fun. The server was on his first night but earnest and hard working and did a great job. I will definitely go again when I am back in Lubbock for work.

Gentlemen, want to take a girl out for an evening that is going to make her feel sexy and absolutely adored? Here is your golden ticket. I love the Funky door. Fondue and wine in a fantastic environment. That is pretty much my heaven. The way they have their wine set up is what I really find fascinating though! They use the Enomatic — a machine that is imported from Italy so that stores each bottle of wine(all 44 of them) at their optimum temperature and keeps them from being altered. In all, it tastes the way it is meant to be tasted. What makes it even more awesome is that you get a «wine card» when you get there, and you can spend the evening walking around the wine machine bar, getting glasses that are 1.5, 3, or 6 ounces. My friends and I each got a card and had a blast sampling our own wine selections as well as each others throughout the evening over fantastic gouda cheese fondue.

Absolutely loved this little gem!!! We went to brunch before the Tech football game with our 10 year old son and it was remarkable. My husband had avocado stuffed eggs Benedict and I enjoyed my traditional dish. The bottomless mimosas were fantastic and heavy on the champs! I HIGHLY recommend and we look forward to coming back soon!

The Funky Door is a stellar place for something out of the ordinary in Lubbock! Step one: don’t think it’s out of your price range. We could’ve easily come up with several options to get out of there for $ 10-$ 15/person before tax and tip. Step two: know their specials. They have a different special each day ANDa 4:30 — 6:30 happy hour. Step three: let them know if it’s your first time! We receive a coupon for a free fondue for our next visit since we let them know that! My husband and I went their for a date night(unplanned) and I immediately knew this could become one of our favorite nicer places to go. The environment lends itself to the perfect place for a date night, ladies get together, or when friends are coming to town — it’s a darker, more intimate setting with comfortable seating and wine glasses ready to go on your table. The wait staff is kind, attentive, and knowledgable. They have a limited menu, but a rather decent variety to fit various budgets and tastes. My husband and I ordered the Funky Door Fondue, featuring gouda and caraway($ 15) with additional sides of the Red Raider Jalapeño Sausage($ 6), chicken($ 5), and sautéed mushrooms($ 4) to split as our meal. The fondue comes with unlimited buttered«croutons» that basically soft, lightly toasted and seasoned baguette pieces. The fondue was great as soon as it got to the table, but we noticed how exceptional it was towards the end, when we allowed the sterno to further boil the water and super-heat the fondue itself. We ate every last bit of the fondue, content that we had split it. During dinner, we each got drinks(I got a Strawberry Lemontini and he a Stone IPA). Each night of the week, they have different specials, and Thursdays they have select martinis(truly just fancier cocktails served in martini glasses) for $ 5. We thought to look over the dessert menu«for next time», especially to see their options in dessert fondues. Though rather full, we still opted for their mini seasonal dessert(which was huge to be called«mini»!). This month’s seasonal dessert was a pumpkin-pie type filling with a pumpkin whipped topping and graham crust — it wasn’t too sweet and it was the perfect size to split. I am so excited to go back to Funky Door! We will definitely be trying out all of their specials and will absolutely be back for their weekday happy hour specials!

Best place ever! Every time I am here I get great service and great wine. Monday’s are great for their Mystery wine! Only $ 5 for a glass. Wednesday is ½ off select wine. Try their fondue… The best!

Get ready for a surprise. They specialize in fondue and wine… my favorite thing on their menu? The burger! Who know they would have such a great burger. They use an amazing ciabatta jalapeño bread and a juicy and perfect burger. The fondue is also very tasty. I have had all the selections and have never been disappointed. They have ladies night on Thursdays. That means food deals and $ 5 specialty drinks like the Cosmo. They service and atmosphere is also really on point. Love this cute unique place.

We visited Funky Door on Aug. 6th, and our experience was mixed. My friend and I met here and were later joined by our significant others, and it was over 20 minutes before they could even order their drinks. Later, when we ordered a carafe of sangria, it was 45 minutes before it arrived. We were still charged full price for the sangria despite the inexcusable wait. While the food is good, it is not of a quality level that merits a $ 200 bill for 4 people. Couple this with mediocre service, and the price-benefit ratio becomes far from acceptable.

This was a surprising find! It being only my second time in Lubbock, I wasn’t sure what to expect. This is a nice wine bar with an excellent menu! Our server was very accommodating with all our requests. He informed us of that it was $ 5 «Mystery Wine Monday»(you choose the color and sweet/dry) which was selected from the wines opened the previous night. This is a fun idea! I really liked the unique items offered on their menu. Several fondues to choose from, and since when doesn’t fondue and wine go awesomely together? The pear and pecan salad was a real hit among my group. They offered 3 meatless entrée options which we really appreciated. The butternut squash, spaghetti squash with pesto cream cheese, mozzarella and parmesan served almond dusted sauteed spinach was amazing. The best and most unique lasagna I’ve ever had. I will definitely dine here again on my next work trip.
