I’ve stayed in quite a few extended-stay hotels over the years, and there is always something a little unsettling about them. But this particular purgatory had another level of unhappiness to it. I think part of that is simply a result of it being so cheap. I suspect a fair number of people who find themselves with no place to go end up staying here longer than they plan. But you get what you pay for. A couch that lost its spring a long time ago. A sticky spot in front of the refrigerator. A shower whose knob requires that you put all your weight into it. Burn marks on the range top. Neighbors who idle their car engines a little too loudly and much too long. When push comes to shove, it still offered what I needed: a bed for a week while I looked for a rental apartment, with free cable and internet(although the internet wasn’t wireless and required a cord purchase across the street). But I was pretty excited to leave after my week was up. I know the hotel’s profit margins are probably slim. But if I had to do it over again, I’d drop a few bucks extra and live a little better.
