I heard about this place from a recent Freakonomics podcast where a local lady tries 2 burgers a week for a year. She said Dizzy Whizz is her favorite. So we drive up and park outside with the plan to eat inside for more of authentic experience. There were 2 old ladies in wheel chairs to the side. One was coloring an adult coloring book from the movie«Cars» and the other was just scratching at the sores on her head with a Barbie blanket covering what I assume were bedsore ridden legs. One kid that walked in looked like a skinnier drugged addicted version of 1990s Vanilla Ice. Two others were in his retinue and all were in sweats. Super ghetto clientele is what I’m getting at here. We both order Whizzburgers — 2 for $ 5.77. They were fine. One of the slimmest patties I’ve seen(there were two). Plenty of mayo and some lettuce. We were hungry so they sufficed. Not terrible, but hard to believe they’re the best in all of Louisville. To use the bathroom you actually have to leave the the building and walk around to the back to the area that looks like a trailer. It was ok. I would try somewhere else next time.

***Dictated for my father who visited this Louisville institution on a Monday lunch: I really wanted to like this place — I had heard good things about it, old school with a good burger. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing — I wanted a good cheeseburger, but I ended up ordering the signature Whizz burger with fries and Coke for $ 5.75. The meat of the Whizz burger is about as thick as a hardback book’s cover. Basic construction of the whizz burger seems to be bun, meat, mayo-lettuce combination, meat and bun. I was not terribly impressed and would not order another. It is important to know that a hungry person would have to eat 2 Whizz Burgers to have enough, so don’t invite my brother-in-law. I would come back again and try the quarter pounder cheeseburger. The fries were excellent — though a basic crinkle fry, they were fried perfectly. The ketchup was also very good — my compliments to the ketchup chef. The Coke was saccharine sweet and I ended up only drinking half of it before discarding it in the wastebasket. I would still like to try the quarter pounder cheeseburger as I heard on a podcast that it was the best Cheeseburger in all of Louisville. So if you go — get the cheeseburger, don’t let this pissy review stop you. You gotta do you, you know? **End Dictation. I wish I could make this stuff up, but honestly, this is what came out of his mouth when I asked him about his experience.

I wasn’t sure how the curbside service worked but the lady came out to the car quick with a menu. I ordered the Bacon double cheeseburger combo and the fries were not seasoned but they were hot. The hamburger was so good. I will be coming back. The only other thing was that the lady that took the orders kept coughing while holding my food and drink. Everything else was good overall.

It had been years since I’d had Dizzy Whiz but went yesterday for lunch. We ate inside and had 2 Whizzburger baskets(fries, slaw, drink) and a cup of chili with onions. The place was clean and they were decently busy. Our food was out in a little less than 10 minutes but was hot and fresh. The ladies at the counter were very friendly. We spent $ 22. I recommend getting the Whizzburger Super because the regular has a very small patty. The sauce is just like a BigMac and good. The fries are crinkle. The chili was good with a bit of spice. They are an Old Louisville institution and have good hours, decent food at a decent price, friendly, local, and fun to use the curb service. I remember them having good shakes. They’re a good option if in the area and a nice change from the chains. You gotta love the dives!

I have heard a lot about Dizzy Whizz from my friends and while I was on my staycation it was time to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. As a virgin to Dizzy Whizz I had to try the Whiz burger and I went ahead and upgraded that to the combo. Which for less than $ 6 you can’t beat it! That’s pretty cheap lunch/dinner/breakfast no matter how you slice it. We visited for late lunch actually. We had been up all night cleaning for our Halloween party and made our way here around 5 p.m. for a quick bite. The whiz burger was very much like a Big Mac from Mickey D’s, even as I was looking the waitress told me that it was similar, but I knew that’s what I wanted so I got it. It’s very quick to come out and the burger and fries were piping hot.(which just means they are 100% ready to be doused in Ketchup and devoured!) It was very very good food! The servers were very friendly. We walked in and while we were glancing at the menu they were chatting with us about what they liked(which I love when the employees give me their opinion on the food, especially if I have never been there!). During the(short) wait for our food to come out we chatted with the lady who was eating her(dinner break I’m assuming) about what we were doing for Halloween and her plans, which she said she had to work but she enjoyed seeing the costumes that come in each year. As we were leaving she happened to be outside and wished us a Happy Halloween, which I thought was a cherry on top of a great meal and great service. That extra really made the taste in my mouth for Dizzy Whizz even better! This place is super close to my house and it’s hella cheap! One day when I am in the mood for some breakfast I am coming back in a heartbeat! They have a special with biscuits and gravy with eggs that is easy on the wallet, but also sounds like you’re getting way more than that 4 dollars you’re spending on it! I can’t wait for my next visit!

I grew up in Old Louisville and I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and absolutely NOTHING has changed, and its absolutely NOT a bad thing. We used to come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner(not on the same day, haha) and this time we visited for some lunch. The place is easy to spot, right on the corner of W Saint Catherine, and has ample off street parking. They offer drive in(or is it called curb side?) service, but we opted to sit inside. When you order you can either do it at the bar when you sit there or order at the front counter. There’s a menu taped to the wall with all of their items on it. After you order you’re given a number. Take a seat and your number will be called. Pick it up at the window and get ready for some num nums. During this visit I ordered The Whizz special, which comes with a Whizz burger, fries and a medium drink for 5.79. That’s a pretty sweet deal to me. There is just something really special about that burger. They’re built like a Big Mac, three pieces of bread, two patties, slice of cheese, special sauce, lettuce, pickles(I don’t think it has onions), if its your first visit humor us and give it a try. The patties are thin, sure, but they’re fresh and delicious and the sauce is just addicting. Its some kind of tartar sauce mix and is so tangy and just EEERRGGG I don’ know! I find it more satisfying than a Thousand Island special sauce and I crave it constantly. Don’t knock it till you try it, because after you do you’ll realize why most people order two burgers. I’ve got to agree with a lot of other Unilocalers, the fries are nothing special. Crinkle cut fries are my favorite, but these just don’t hit the mark. They’re usually overcooked and too thick, but the burger more than makes up for it. I’d also like to mention their ridiculous breakfast special: two eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy and a coffee or soda for 3.99, YES, 3.99! Its greasy, its filling and its perfect. Check out their specials: Overall: I’ve always liked this place, the staff is fun and friendly and definitely comes with their own very individual personalities, its pretty clean considering its old and always busy, and the burgers and eggs are just freaking good. Have you been drinking? Is it the morning after you’ve been drinking? Are you short of funds and want something greasy and delicious? Well head on down to Dizzy Whizz for some local grub and you might just love it!

This hidden old Louisville«shack» is perfect for any individual looking to save a quick buck. I ended up getting two bacon cheeseburgers, two fries and a drink for $ 8! I mean idk how they do it but I’m def not gonna complain.

I give it four stars for classic charm. It didn’t stand out to me, but it was an honest, old time neighborhood classic. The pricing was fantastic(me and my husband ate for 12 bucks). The dairy selections were great. The best part for me was the nostalgia.

Cheap, greasy and good! The ice cream is off the chain! Just a little unorganized and unless the young Black chick is on the flat top, you’ll be waiting, she can work that grill and laugh with the customers too!

Lame… bland superwhizzy burger… plain old frozen fries… once was enough for me. If you want to get a real authentic burger don’t stop here. Just cuz the building is old with curb service the food is nothing more than bland.

The interior reminds me of a 1970’s Burger King, but the staff is extremely nice and the food is cheap. Had a cheeseburger and fries, which I feel like you can’t mess up too bad. Seems like the place has a lot of regulars, since most everyone greeted the waitress by name. I’d probably go back.

After a couple of years of seeing the billboard on I65 advertising the famous«Whizzburger,» it was with both curiosity and trepidation that I pulled up to the small restaurant on St. Catherines and got ready to indulge in some Dizzy Whizz. I had to know who had the audacity to call something a «Whizzburger» and think that it sounded appetizing. I was expecting a greasy spoon and that is exactly what I got. First, everyone was really friendly. Those ladies were hustling behind the counter, at the grill and in front of the fryers, but never let that rush make the customers feel rushed. The ordering window inside was pretty cramped and there didn’t seem to be a good way to queue, but everyone got taken care of. Pickup had the same problem as there were two windows that seemed to handle that job but if you listen for your number, everything will be OK. There’s a small bar with stools in the back that let you converse with the grill cook. The main menu listings are here which further confused the ordering process, but I knew I was going to get a Whizzburger and a Coke. I should have gotten fries as well because the price was nearly identical. When my food arrived, I was a little disappointed. I pulled back the bun and saw fairly small meat patties along with toppings and sauces. I was expecting more. But when I bit into it, I was really impressed. It tasted great! Tasty. Odd. Friendly.

Being so close to where i live is a definite plus! We walked over for breakfast and ended up taking it to go because they were so busy. I ordered an egg and cheese biscuit and some spicy fries. They were both exactly what i was in the mood to have. The biscuit was soft and tasty and the egg was actually a real fried egg! Way better than most fast food«eggs». The spicy fries were not real spicy, but nice and crunchy. I will enjoy breakfast here again. The prices are good. For my breakfast and a medium unsweet iced tea it was 5 and some change. I am looking forward to warmer weather so that i can check out some of their delicious sounding icecream treats.

I LOVE this joint. My gramma has been taking me here since I was a little kid. I have many great memories associated with this place. Today I went for the first time in probably 6 years and the food was still pretty great. The only thing that has changed is that it isn’t as clean as it used to be. It’s not super dirty, but it isn’t sparkling clean either. The food is still really good though. The service is a little different now too. The people who work there are nice, but aren’t exactly who you want to talk to. They seem kind of odd and spaced out. But that’s to be expected downtown. Over all, the food is great and I’ll definitely be going back. If you go, try the Whizz Burger. It’s a classic and their best!

As newbies to Louisville — we saw this place while driving down 2nd st and decided to stop in. The interior was awesome and felt like we had gone back to the 70s. The women working there were insanely friendly and they seemed to know every customer by name. They also offer curbside dining — the old school kind(not like Sonic) which seemed really neat. The food turned out great and we’ll definitely be stopping in again! Note: this place only accepts cash so come prepared.

This is how fast food used to be. Hot off the grill and fresh. I had the super whizz and onion rings. Basically a big mac or a big boy except good. Two patties on a twice split bun, lettuce, pickles and tartar sauce. Whizz sauce sounds a little gross. I’m also glad they don’t call this burger the big whizz. The onion rings are breaded not battered. My preference. They were crunchy and not at all greasy. A good deal for a little over $ 6. They have curb service and dine in. Ice cream is also featured.

One of my all-time favorites in Louisville Kentucky. Little burger stand in downtown Louisville which is famous for its Whizzburger. I was visiting my son at the University of Louisville and took him for his first ever Whizzburger. He loved it!

I’ve been driving past Dizzy Whizz for a while, and have been curious. It is an old-school drive-in, clearly a local institution, and always has intriguing specials at ridiculously low prices on the board out front. It’s the kind of place that will either be a wonderful discovery or just awful. There’s nothing fancy about Dizzy Whizz. There is curb service, outdoor seating, and a small dining room. The whole place has the appearance of having been here forever. It looks like it has been expanded a few times over the years. I ordered a bacon double cheeseburger basket, and after inquiring about the iced tea(fresh brewed), a large one. My burger was fantastic! There was bacon and cheese layered on top of each patty, which took the cheesy bacon-y goodness to a level I have rarely experienced. The burger was accompanied by a cup of coleslaw(ordinary, but a nice touch) and some crinkle-cut fries. The iced tea was fresh, delicious, and in a huge cup. The only negative for me was the fries. They had clearly been cooked a while before. They weren’t hot, and their texture had changed to that stale French fry texture.(When you were a kid, did you ever eat an old French fry you found in the crack of a seat in the family car? These were something like that.) If the fries were icky and the place still got four stars from me, you KNOW the burger was great!

Since moving to Louisville we have been searching for a good greasy spoon for the occasional splurge. Dizzy Whizz is the spot we have been looking for and I think it’s safe to assume we will return soon. I’m guessing it will be late at night when nothing but a greasy burger will suppress the craving for comfort food.
