My fiancé is moving to Germantown with me shortly and I have told him about Danny Macs in the past, but up until last weekend he had not tried the local pizza place. Pizza is a hard sell in this town. There are just so many pizza places. But one thing that I love are local businesses with heart and soul. Danny Macs has a lot of this. I surprised my main squeeze with the whole nine yards from Danny Macs. Shedding For the wedding doesn’t exist during NBA Finals and when there is the potential of bread«crack» sticks we rise to the occasion like the Cavs. So I placed a carry out order for the bread sticks, the chicken pepperoni pizza and cinnamon sticks. It’s the new IDgF diet, lolz. So, like every good story. Let’s start at the beginning. The breadsticks are everything good your imagining about bread and butter. They are extra buttery and not for the weight watcher, but delicious in every bite. The pizza was just as flavorful. Ours had chicken and pepperoni and onion on it(I think). I loved their traditional crust and the toppings were layered on there, once again they were very competitive with places like Impellizeris, or Boombozz. Which Boombozz is one of my favorite pizza places and I’d say their style and flavors are similar. But I kinda like Danny Macs a tad more. Their cinnamon breadsticks were just what we needed to end our carbs fest. I have absolutely no regret and we had very few leftovers. Needless to say, my fiancé was impressed. I think Danny Macs is a diamond in the rough. Literally, it’s located in an Amvets post on S. Shelby street. I think they would do a great job in a little place like the Old Pizza King in Jeffersonville. I do have to say the whole ringing the door bell and signing in and walking in during karaōke adds character to the carry out aspect of things, don’t ya think? I might even pick a song next time. Or just stick to the crack sticks #nom **I just realized they have another location. With full service. I will definitely have to try it out.

All of the previous reviews have been very accurate. It’s definitely a bit of a joint. But it’s cool. The pizza and the breadsticks are everything they’re advertised to be. Highly recommend it.

Pizza was great! Affordable and tasted great. The location though, although I can appreciate a good hole in the wall type establishment. I am looking forward to going to their newest location opening soon, so I can eat more of their pizza and actually feel comfortable dining in.

After reading the reviews I really wanted to try the crack sticks, they were pretty good but the philly steak was great! I put butter from the crack sticks lightly on top and then put a little salt and pepper on the top of the bun and it was awesome!!!

Surprisingly good even though it’s run out of an Amvets post. I had read the reviews so the odd location was expected and should not reflect poorly on the food. The entrance is on the right side of the building and yes you do have to get buzzed in usually. Order at the far end of the bar where there is a small kitchen where they make some pretty good pizza. We had the cracksticks which were ordinary breadsticks soaked in garlic butter. They were good but not worthy of the name. Luckily I like to try everything that looks so we got the cinnamon sticks as well. These are more like crack than the cracksticks. Perfect amount of sugar and cinnamon drizzled with icing, delicious! We wanted to try the hot brown pizza but they were out of turkey so we went with the BBQ chicken pizza. All the pizzas are 15.99 and loaded with toppings, no skimping on the toppings here. I really liked the outer pieces that had a little thicker crust, the center pieces were thinner and couldn’t hold up to the topping. Definitely a place you order to go, but as far as pizza it ranks up there with Wicks, Impellizeri, Diorios and Coals

It is a hole on the wall inside am amvets where you have to be careful what you order. I couldn’t even eat the wings. They were like some nasty microwave boneless wings. The cheese steak was awesome. Came with grippos and au jus. Interested in trying some other things, but will be picky what I order.

I was told my order would be ready in 20 – 25 minutes, I arrived in 28 minutes, it wasn’t ready. The guy was a bit curt at first, but made things right, which I appreciated. Maybe he was having a moment, we all do. The pizza and breads ticks are amazing.

Having to be buzzed in to the restaurant set my bar low, the people were crude and reeking of weed were nice and jovial. Pizza and breadsticks were good, no complaints about the food only the terrible environment in which they’re served.

My fiancée and I recently moved to Germantown, and Danny Mac’s has quickly become my favorite pizza in town. The pizzas are loaded with toppings and the bread sticks are incredible, which is a big statement coming from me because I generally never bother with breadsticks. I’ve noticed some reviews on here have complained the atmosphere is not impressive – it’s a VFW hall, not a restaurant. Just order it to go and enjoy it at home if you don’t want to eat there, but wherever you eat it, it’s totally worth it.

The food was great but the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. You pay for food on one side(cash or credit) you pay for drinks on other side(cash only) small cup soda $ 1& no free refills. This will be a carry out place for us if we decide to eat it again

I’d heard of Danny Mac’s through my Aunt Pam and tried it for the first time tonight! It was delicious and the guy that helped us(didn’t get his name) when we came to pick up our order was super nice and funny. My friends and I have found our new favorite pizza spot! I recommend the crack sticks but the wings and pizza were amazing as well! You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

Boy oh boy! if you must get one thing from here and have a huge sweet tooth, please do get the cinnamon bread stick. it was so good!!! i love cinnamon rolls so this was a definite hit. so my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, i ordered a ton. The only thing i was disappointed in was the breadstick because I could see it was soaked in butter. It was good, dont get me wrong, it just made me feel like I gained 10 lbs. The pizza, i got the bbq chicken one and boy! it was yummy! the flavor and the crust was all well done. i would definitley suggest this if anyone want to try out a new pizza joint!

Great lunch time venue. The pizza, subs and rest of the menu items are first rate. Arguably the best pizza in all of Louisville.

The pizza was delicious! We had head that the food was good and wanted to try somewhere new. It was inside a vet post but that made it great to have a cocktail and play a bit of keno. We will be back to try some of the other items on the menu.

I wasn’t sure what I might be getting when I’ve seen this place in the past, or even if it was open to the public. After reading some of the reviews on Unilocal,I decided to try it. The pizza is easily one of the better ones I’ve had in Louisville, I really enjoyed the sausaucece, the Crust was flavorful and perfect, and the toppings were excellent. I did get the breadsticks, they were good. I ordered takeout, and I’m not sure I’d want to bring the family to dine in, as it in right in the middle of the AMVETS bar area. I will definitely be adding Danny Macs to our pizza rotation, and you should try it too!

Picked up from here yesterday and the pizza really is good. Definitely up there with the best in the city. Next time I’ll have to try the breadstix or cheese stix as well.

I ordered pizza and bread sticks and both were delicious. I’m pretty particular about pizza but Danny Mac’s got it just right. I will absolutely go back there soon. I’m just sad I just got around trying this place out. It’s less than .5 miles from my apartment. I called and ordered by phone and everything was ready by the time I walked over there. Everyone was very friendly and I look forward to going back sometime in the near future.

I’ve been going to Danny Mac’s Pizza for years. Back when they were on Clarks Lane and while they’ve been at the AmVets. You really can not get a better pizza than at Danny Mac’s. I’ve dined in various times and even got some for our big Christmas Eve gathering one year. I’ve had supreme, pepperoni, sausage, bbq chicken, etc. My favorite is the chicken bacon and ranch pizza. Also, the cheesesteak sandwiches with the au jus sauce. Sooooo freaking good.

This. Pizza. Is. Amazing. Danny Macs is one of the reasons I love living in the Germantown area– local goldmines of food goodness! We haVe tried several pizzas and it has never disappointed! My favorite is the BBQ Chicken– cheese, tangy sauce, and crispy bacon make it a real winner. A MUSTTRY is an order of their breadsticks(aka crack-sticks). It’s bread goodness and butter, brushed with butter! It’s not for the calorie counter but definitely for the comfort food appreciator. Danny Macs can be a but intimidating for first-timers. It is mostly take-out and no delivery. It is located in the Am-Vet building so you have to ring the bell for service. I’m sure you could set in there and eat but my suggestion is take it home so you can obnoxiously stuff your face and make the same comments about how amazing it is :). Enjoy!

I was surprised upon reading the menu of this restaurant online and finding«CrackWings» and«CrackSticks» which was actually exactly what I ordered. The Garlic parmesan«CrackWings» were well covered in garlic and cooked just right, while the«CrackSticks» were bread sticks bathed in garlic and eventually became soggy. Other members of my party ordered cheesesteaks which turned out great too. Service was a little slow, But other than that, good dinner.

This visit was in December ’12. So, unbelievably, this was some of the best pizza I have had in town. It’s unassuming since it’s little more than a short counter and tiny kitchen in the back of a VA hall. I ordered a thin crust pizza with mushrooms, pineapple, and peppers, no cheese and I mentioned my vegan lifestyle when I ordered. My cohort and I sat down, waited 10 minutes on this late weeknight and when the pizza came out, our server turned to me and said that he had been sure to cut mine with a clean pizza slicer so that no meat or cheese had come in contact with it. And, uh, the pizza was DELISH! The sauce is really bright and flavorful, the crust was crunchy and satisfying and my veggies were quality. The whole experience just kind blew my expectations out of the water. I’d go back any time!

My husband and I like to consider ourselves pizza connoisseurs, so when we kept hearing the name Danny Macs Pizza come up we knew we had to give it a try. After hearing about it from a few friends, I knew it was in a strange location and that you had to ring a doorbell to get in. What I was not prepared for, however, was the fact that it’s not so much a restaurant, but a bar for the Amvets with a small counter space dedicated to placing your order. Word of advice: plan on eating this pizza at home. Needless to say, the atmosphere caught me a little off guard. Now, on to the important part, the food. We went with a pepperoni pizza on traditional crust and an order of breadsticks(aka«crack sticks»). I was excited to find that they put the toppings under the cheese – I don’t know why this excites me, but it does. The only other pizza place I’ve found that does this is Bearnos and I just think it makes a difference. Overall, the pizza was good, but not great. The crust was fantastic, but the sauce was a little too tangy and overpowering for my taste. The crack sticks were the favorite for me. They come swimming in garlic butter and you know that just one bit will surely clog an artery, but it’s a risk you’re willing to take because it just tastes that good. I ended up only eating one slice of pizza, but somewhere around 4 – 5 of the sticks. I wouldn’t say that Danny Macs is my favorite pizza, but it is a nice change up and you can’t beat the prices(or the breadsticks). It’s definitely worth seeking out if you haven’t been yet.

Me and my husband love to try different spots for a good pizza and I will say this was a great one. The location was not hard to find and as many people stated we had to be buzzed in and that wasn’t a issue for us at all. The guy that answered the door was a nice retired firefighter hanging at the bar with his friends. The Owner Danny gave us a nice welcome and we just sat anywhere. We bought a Combo Pizza it was very tasty. I felt the products tasted fresh and the crust was not to thin and not to thick. I like paplinnos and Wicks but this was far better then either. Can’t wait to go back and try the crack sticks people where coming in the entire time picking up Crack sticks and pizza. Nina
