I frequent Barret Liquors quite a few times a week and all the employees know the three things I go for when I come in. I either spend a few minutes peering at bourbon, a few minutes peering at the wine to only end up at the cooler by the counter to get a bottle of Old 502 Reese-Ling or I hit their beer selection for a rocker bottle or six pack. All the employees are super nice and easy to talk to about whatever you want, the news, advice on liquor/wine/beer(obvs), why the person outside got pulled over and if you have a hat like mine that says«Not Today Satan» of course that gets brought up as well. The selection of course is much smaller than bigger liquor stores like Liquor Barn, but they’re my neighborhood liquor store and I could easily walk from my house on East St. Catherine if I wanted the exercise. It’s not only convenient to my house but if I need gas from Marathon and a bottle of bourbon I can get it in about 3 seconds of each other so it’s a perfect little location. The parking can kind of suck because you either have to back out into oncoming traffic of Winter Ave. or drive to the other side of the parking lot to turn onto Barret Ave. The prices could be cheaper but, you can’t really put a price on good conversation, laughs and convenience. Barret Liquors is my spot because even if they don’t have something they will do their best to get it in stock for you if you ask about it as well. It’s worth a stop if you’re leaving Monkey Wrench or need a bottle after work and you’re filling up at Marathon. Plus you never know what kind of people watching you’ll get to see while pulling in.

Maybe it is the convenience of being almost just across the street from my house– or– maybe it is the fact that I love to support local businesses– But I love Barret Liquors. They know me by name, know my dogs names, know who my NFL team is and always comment on seeing me running throughout the neighborhood. The owners/managers of Barret Liquors seem like friends. It always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. They have a nice selection of beer, wine and liquor at a decent price. No crazy mark ups. Usually I can find the sparkling wine or beer I like cold. They have mixers for bloody mary’s, seltzers, tonics, soda’s, margaritas, etc. It is small and everything is easy to find. If you are on your way home or to a party and need to pick somehting up quick– it is the perfect place to go.

Convenient little liquor store if you live in the area. Need beer on the way home from Monkey Wrench? Pretty convenient. Not a huge selection of course as it is just a neighborhood stop. Granted Old Town is the exception to the rule. Not the cheapest but not outrageous either. You’re paying for convenience. Kind of like water at a grocery store is always cheaper than the gas station. Just realized I’ve said convenient 3 times(well 4 now). Enough said.

Not the best prices or selection, but it’s also not a large chain. It’s a nice, little locally-owned, neighborhood liquor store that is pretty well-stocked…it’s a tight squeeze down some of those aisles. The owner and employees always seem to be pretty willing to help.

This is my neighborhood liquor store — I think it’s great. The staff is friendly and give good suggestions on things you should try. It’s a little pricey but worth it to me to avoid driving around the Highlands.

Friendly staff and owners. But prices are high, roughly 10−20% more than Old Town. However it can be a convenient location for some and away from all the Bardstown Road traffic.
