I am sure had we got to experience the actual Doctors and therapist more, my review would be different, but that was not the case. We were referred to Dr. Weinberg by a local optometrist while doing a screening for Kindergarten admissions. Reviews online and the referral that we received indicated that we would get taken care of exceptionally and would love our experience. Making an appointment was not difficult and when we arrived, we were taken care of wonderfully. The trouble started when the billing or office manager said that we hadn’t given her the correct insurance information. My wife and I double cover our children and I was told that the Humana card I gave them was incorrect because it was my HSA card.(Humana, in an effort to simplify SOME insurance intricacies, has printed all ID numbers, group numbers, effective dates, pertinent phone numbers and other information directly on the FSA card to both save on material and the amount of cards you have to carry.) Once I pointed out that the information in fact was on the card, her attention turned to the Anthem card which my wife had supplied digitally to the office’s email. We were told the information on the digital card was incomplete and Anthem wasn’t going to accept the claim if we could not produce a physical card. By this time the lady’s tone and unprofessionalism was grating on me and I decided to follow our first son into the exam room to meet with Dr. Swartzentruber and leave my wife to deal with the front office. Dr. Swartzentruber was AMAZING! Her interaction with the children and patience during the exam was phenomenal. She was so thorough, took her time to explain the findings and answer any questions. When it was time for our second son to enter for his exam I noticed that my wife was finished with the front desk and I assumed that everything finished. Boy was I wrong. The lady at the desk had basically made her feel incompetent and worthless because we couldn’t hand her a physical card. This was getting old fast and either the lady at the desk got the fact that we don’t have a physical card or she was as fed up as us because she wasn’t interacting anymore. Our second son that saw Dr. Swartzentruber had an identical experience from the first son. AMAZING!(I should mention that the boys are 5 and 9). Once completed, we were instructed to set up a time to meet with Dr. Weinberg(parents only) to discuss treatment and therapy plans. We also made a request to have the boys meet with the vision therapist, preferably at the same time. We were advised that we would receive a call from the therapists to confirm a time. The next week we did receive that call, albeit at 7:48 pm. Since this was prime time for evening ritual in our home the call went to voicemail. About an hour later I checked and had a message from Laura wanting to confirm Sept 24 at noon for both boys. I returned the call right then because I know it is difficult in any office to block out that much time to be seen together. It being about 9pm, I left a VM and confirmed for both boys the date and time given to me. The next week, I receive a call wanting to confirm an appt on Sept 19 for Son #1. I informed the office that there must be a mix up and explained what I had already arranged. It turns out that I was right and they had accidently double booked Son #1 for an initial exam(the one from two weeks earlier). My appt on the 24th was confirmed and that was that. I arrive on the 24th at 1150am and am told that the boys don’t have an appt, that I never called to confirm. I recount the above story and am told that, no I never called and they can’t see us today. It did not help that it was the same lady from the previous debacle and her attitude, demeanor and professionalism had not improved. There was no apology, nothing. Just you didn’t return our call and now I have phones to answer. No suggestion to remedy, no suggestion of another time. So, I informed her that we were leaving and finding a new provider. She said, «Okay.» That is my short experience with Advanced Vision of Louisville. The only reason that they get two stars is because of the absolutely superb skills that Dr. Swartzentruber displayed during our initial exams. My suggestion to Dr. Weinberg or Dr. Swartzentruber: you might want to take a closer look at your front office staff because the impression that we were given was not good. And for that, I must express our experience to anyone else looking at this office to provide services to their families.

Dr Weinberg is a great, caring Dr. He does a lot with special needs children and we highly regard his work. Between my two sons we have had several of the vision therapists work with us over the years and they are all great. They really help kids with vision needs. I believe they offer vision therapy for adults but do not know anything about that part. Their prices on their frames seem to be high. We like to keep one place for exams and glasses so there isn’t any«pass the buck» issues that seems to happen when you get your glasses at a different place. This isn’t an issue for us here but had happened to us on multiple occasions before coming here. The support staff are very friendly but there are some issues. Dr Weinberg and the vision staff more than make up for issues anywhere else. As for the other doctors there that I have met, they seem very nice and I’ve never heard any complaints about them but that is all I can say about them not working directly with them.

I can SEE clearly why this place is amazing! I saw the need to visit Dr. Weinberg and his staff because I have the Care Credit Card that allows for spread out medical payments and this is one of the Opticians that accept this card. The office gives visionary customer service! Every visit they are courteous and kind. They services adults and kids. The staff will always verify my vision insurance before I come in and advise me on what is paid and not paid so I can choose. They even have a high-tech retinal exam that does not require dilating your eyes, meaning for any routine exam I can still drive home. The frame selection is smaller then the mall but still solid enough that I found two sets of frames. This office carries the transition lenses and the sun-glass clip on brand. This office is open on Saturday’s and after 5pm with allows me to visit without losing time for work. Advanced Vision takes most insurances, but I actually started with them because I did not have vision insurance. The are very good about payment and making sure you do not have to pay to much out of pocket if you have a bad insurance plan or no insurance. I am glad that I found a vision doctor and staff that have the foresight to be so amazing. I would recommend this to any of my visually challenged friends.
