What a great spot! Great prices, and terrific service. After a bad experience with the service at the sculptured egg, we came here and found the service and food to be delightful. We highly recommend this spot with a view of the bay.

Super cute spot that’s part of the Back Bay Inn where lots of locals come for brunch over the weekend. It was packed when we got there at 9 or 10am on both Saturday and Sunday. Fun fact, if you’re a guest at the Inn, you get complimentary breakfast every day you stay! I thought we’d just get the standard toast and eggs, but we ended up getting to choose from all the regular menu items. The first day, I had their frittata of the day, which was delicious! Loads of veggies and it came with fruit and toast. The second day, we got breakfast burritos(we just had to pay $ 2 extra since they weren’t on the menu for guests of the Inn). They were really flavorful and a bit on the heavier side, which is perfect to start your morning! They also have lots of pastries. We tried the banana scone, which looked kind of like a pancake, and it was really yummy! It had just enough of that gooey banana consistency, but was also definitely a scone. If you’re too hungry to wait for your food, I’d recommend it, or one of their danishes as you wait. Summary: Friendly service, lots of variety, quick service given the sheer amount of guests there there in the morning, and beautiful view of the bay. Perfect for a relaxed morning!

This place used to have some of the best staff on the Central Coast. Very friendly and outgoing always greeted you with a smile. Unfortunately staff has turned over a couple times in the last year and the people working there are not very knowledgeable friendly.

Very family friendly and there are always interesting people to talk to. Or watch! The food is amazing and I always recommend family and friends from out of town to go here for breakfast. The hotel across the street gives their visitors free meals there when you stay. Eating inside is nice because it gives me the feel of a diner. Out side almost always has a great view of the bay, unless it’s muddy!

Are you just waking up and find yourself hungry for some good grub and thirsty for some great coffee??? Back Bay Café is the place to come. Have been coming here for years, and I definitely feel they are at their best right now. The food here is great. I got a breakfast sandwich(two eggs over medium), cheddar cheese, big thick bacon strips, and mayonnaise. My mom got the breakfast burrito, which was almost fantastic. Their frittata of the day is usually another safe choice, along with their BLT. As for coffee, they usually have plenty to choose from, along with tea and other choices for those who don’t like coffee. You can even get a mimosa to enjoy with your morning grub!!! Would I come back here??? Absolutely. I love this place. Would I recommend this place to others??? You bet… unless I don’t like you. Because if I don’t like you I don’t want you enjoying someplace this great. Lol.

Great place. Extraordinary location. Killer views. Really liked it here. I only had *coffee* — mine was an almond milk latte — and it was awesome. Only four stars because the café itself could use to be a little cleaner and more thoughtfully decorated on the inside. I liked that it wasn’t hoity-toity, but a bit more class would be nice and make it more comfortable :) Otherwise a neat stop!

Great place to stop by on your way to/from Montana de Oro or the many nearby parks/beaches. Come and enjoy a baked good(I like their cookies), a drink(I like their hot chocolate), or even lunch(I like their turkey wrap). But, to be honest, you really come here for the location: –Sit outside in their patio area and enjoy the beautiful view. –Walk across the parking lot onto the deck by the water. –And when you’re finished, wander over to the grassy area nearby, lay down a blanket, and enjoy some sun before you’re on your way.

Love this place, but it hasn’t been the same since Cameron left. He did a great job managing product quality and remembering people’s names and orders but his replacements have not. Hope they can keep it together cuz I dig that place.

We found this little café when we were staying in an airbnb nearby. Loved the breakfast burrito so much. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and the flavors melded together deliciously. It was so good I had another one the second day we were in town.

I waited over 45 minutes for a breakfast burrito and a turkey wrap! It was after 2pm and did not seem busy. The cook was the only one working(although he never washed his hands or wore gloves when he would leave the kitchen and come back with ingredients). There seemed to be no leadership or teamwork at this place. The communication was bad between employees and customers. I have been here before with decent service but after my experience today I will probably never go back again and it’s two blocks from my house! I could go on in great detail about how unhappy I am but this review will probably be deleted soon by the owners. Not a bad place to eat, the food is good and great views of the bay! It just sucks when you get let down.

The counter staff are always very friendly and helpful. Over the 4th of July weekend, one gal was very sweet to my young daughter the two times she was working the counter, and I always appreciate that. I’ve always visited as a guest of the Back Bay Inn with my family. A stay at the inn means breakfast at the café. We stayed three nights, so I had the scramble twice and the French toast(yum!). There are no frills, and the shack is a little funky, but the staff, bay front location(ok, there’s an intervening parking lot), and the daily chitchat from the smiling locals(and their dogs) add to the charm and attraction of this venue, and make for long lasting memories of our stays in Los Osos. When the new restaurant is built out, I hope they don’t lose that. There’s no place really like it.

I visited Back Bay Café for a Sunday brunch for an overall good experience. My comestible selection was the breakfast burrito: scrambled eggs, cheese(I opted for pepper jack), potatoes, ham, green onion, and salsa. The burrito was toasted well, came out in a timely manner; and for being a fairly simple item, was well seasoned and quite flavorful. The staff were all quite friendly and the location was nice with outside seating near the bay. The only negative part of the experience was the coffee. I selected the dark roast(Fog Lifter) which was truly appalling. The coffee tasted as if possibly it were brewed using the recycled grey water from the dish washing. To be fair, maybe the other blends were better and I did not try an espresso-based beverage from the coffee bar. I will potentially try something from the coffee bar in the future, however I will need time to recover from the first coffee experience. In summary, I would advocate for a visit, simple bite to eat, and possibly one of the draft beers on tap… I would caution imbibing the«Fog Lifter» however.

My wife and i ate here while staying at the inn next door. Since it was complimentary breakfast and coffee, i wasn’t expecting much, but man this place is great. A good sign is when the place is packed on a weekday morning, and there were a lot of people. The coffee was good, food great, and the ocean view awesome. What a great way to start the day. If you are looking for breakfast, check this place out. You won’t be disappointed.

The Back Bay Café has one of the best locations in all of Baywood, overlooking the bay and the Second Street pier. There is ample outdoor seating with most seats behind a plexi-glass half-wall to protect you from the wind while still allowing you the view of the water and sandspit. Music plays from inside the ordering lobby, they were blasting some reggae on the Thursday afternoon I visited. They have a small menu of some breakfast and lunch basics, made fresh while you wait, and of course several coffee drinks. The staff is young and friendly. I had the turkey club wrap(see photo), which was filled with fresh ingredients in a normal size(tomato?) tortilla. While I enjoyed the tasty wrap, for $ 7.75, I was expecting something a little bigger, like a larger burrito-size, similar to what you would typically get at other places who use a jumbo tortilla. The cook told me about a 30 minute wait for our 2 orders, which I thought was a little long(no 3 minute Subway prep here), as there was only 1 other occupied table. Fortunately, it actually only took about 20 mins for our food to arrive at our table; so be aware there will typically be a bit of a wait. I also had a decaf coffee from the big coffee pump dispenser on the counter, which was good as usual, since they use the local SLO Roasted Coffee brand beans, which are a pretty high quality without the burnt taste other brands can have. My lunch partner enjoyed the veggie pannini which also had very fresh ingredients and she said was tasty enough to have again. Unilocal lists their hours as 6:30 — 4:00pm or 6pm, but that is not correct. They were starting to close down the place around 1:45pm and they stopped serving at 2pm sharp, as a couple ladies came in about 2:05pm and were turned away. In summary, a cute little local café with a small menu of good food and a view that can’t be beat. Check it out!

At six: I used to meet my mother here, making the mile walk alone. We would drink hot chocolate from styrofoam cups, and feed bread to the birds flocking around the foot of the pier. I would wander down the boat-launch ramp to the edge of the water, feeding the birds, digging for clams. The days stretched and warped, summers lasted an eternity, the hot chocolate was sweet and rich on my tongue. At sixteen: I would sit with my girlfriend and drink cappuccino from round, low mugs, and we would talk about literature, and politics, and school, and the limitless life ahead of us. At those moments, everything seemed to slow down in a world which had started to uncomfortably accelerate, driven by hormones and lust. We grabbed onto one another at the edge of the pier and held on to the edge of the world, trying to slow down the unceasing tides of time as birds soared overhead, watching the sunset over the sand-dunes, sharing drags from a cigarette someone from the Merrimaker had given us feeling So. Damn. Rebellious. We fiercely stared into each others eyes as the hours passed, because we were the only people who had ever lived, the last of a lost civilization, watching as the world we had understood as constant warped and lost cohesion. At 26: I leap and grab for instants, a cat stalking butterflies, too busy with my work, too busy with my life to notice their passing with anything but a fleeting horror. The valley grows more beautiful every time I return: sunrises and sunsets uncomfortably lurid, the sounds of the birds a revelation to a man living in a city defined by their void, the stars upon the moon and the bay as I stroll at night somehow alien. I walk the same paths I did as a child, I sit in the same places, I wonder at the visceral roar of the ocean, impotently raging against the sand dunes; I am steeped in retrospection. I steal sips of the ichor of moments and memories as they pass. The Café remains, its the only place in Los Osos I can get a good cup of coffee. I eat the breakfast burritos they serve at the at the pier, but the boat launch ramp has been boarded up as the glassy bay retreats. I laugh with the locals who have been serving and served for decades, who all know each other. I drink wine here sunset with my buddy«The Bear Jew», and we talk about days past. I treasure these occasions, for I grow older, and my parents grow older, and time slips away. I didn’t like growing up in my seaside town, but I thank my parents for the opportunity every time I return.

literally the only place that was actually open for breakfast. our«bed and breakfast» had complimentary breakfast here(along with some other place that NEVER opened). our breakfast voucher came with a choice of an entrée(listed) and coffee or OJ. coffee was okay but had complimentary refills. we had the frittata of the day which was mushroom. it came straight out of the oven so it was still warm. this was served with a side salad. then we used the other voucher to get OJ and a morning glory muffin. the muffin was okay. you’d probably be better off ordering for the menu than getting baked goods… although, if you didn’t want to wait, pastries were the way to go. they have limited seating inside and outdoor patio seating. gets the job done… 3.5 stars
