the wm. eggleston exhibition is pretty good. he’s a sort of american atget, or a dorothea lange for the sixties & after. the architecture of BCAM however, is uninspired & airless. i actually felt the creepings of claustrophobia passing through the eggleston, as if i were in a series of nut-house rooms, minus only the padding on the walls. [or so i’m told.] it was sort of like being in a cheese maze. or how i would imagine a cheese maze to be… knowing the back-story of eli broad’s draconian requirements of lacma(& soon moca) for the exhibition of his collection, this building is bizarrely generic for such a, well, megalomaniac. i still love koon’s balloon dog sculpture, though. but, the no photographs of any kind policy is ridiculous.
