*** 17Jul’10 walk review: *** I can’t agree more w/Kyle’s original review of this event. I’ve also done the DTLA and Culver Art Walks, and I like the quality of the art along this walk best. But it should be considered an Art«Drive», not«Walk». It is so spread out! Midway thru our walk along Wilshire, we discovered the cool sculpture pictured just outside of the Museum Square building. That is really a pretty chilled area to stop and take a break imo. From there we stopped at LACMA to see the live concert in the park performed by Cozumel(part of their«Latin Sounds» series). We spent at least 4hrs(and walked 3mi) on Wilshire Blvd alone. Not to mention that we did not even getta chance to hit LaBrea, Beverly Blvd or other gallery corridors. So be strategic about it. *** Start early, pace yourself, and«drive» thru this walk!(lol) ***

I’m reviewing the Miracle Mile Art Walk on 4÷17÷2010… Since I’ve been in LA, I’ve been to about 3 Art Walks — Downtown LA, Culver City, and Miracle Mile. Of the 3 this is probably the most spread out, but with that, it also has the greatest quantity of galleries on view — many keeping their doors open until 10pm for festivities. The route( ) takes place between Highland, Wilshire, San Vicente, and Melrose. So it’s actually more of an Art DRIVE. We took the train & bus(fearing traffic jams in the vicinity) but after arriving at the first gallery and checking out our plan of attack, we were like, damn, we shoulda drove! A good 50% of the galleries served sponsored wine or beer. Some even went all out with brownies, cookies and assorted snacks. The Ace Gallery is definitely a must see. Creative Photography workshops and gallery had an AWESOMELAHS student competition. Some of the student photos were the best of the day. No pretense about them, just raw emotion. Perhaps, their photography — while still stunning — was easier for me to «get.» hehe Finally — outside of the Edward Cella Art + Architecture, there was Bear Flag wine Open Bar with the grilled Cheese Truck waiting outside for the ultimate cheese pairing ftw! NomNom to red wine with Grilled American, caramelized onions, and pulled pork.
