What makes this bar 5 stars is Freddy! He truly knows what Service is about! Plus he is an outstanding mixologist! Give the place a try you won’t be disappointed knowing Freddy is over seeing the things

I only want to come to the bar when Roxy or Courtney are working, they’re both the best. Roxy is my favorite of them all, somehow her drinks taste better than the one guy I see there all the time. Roxy and Courtney are also both super friendly ladies and they make everyone who is at their bar feel valued, even if theyre busy or understaffed. The drinks are best if you let Roxy or Courtney just take the reigns and make something awesome, don’t order off the menu. Food needs a LOT of help. The food takes too long to come out, and what does emerge from the kitchen is pedestrian and dated. If the food were on point, review would be five stars.

I’ve been here several times and I always sit at the bar. The service tends to be a little slow and not always the warmest welcome when I get there. The bartenders usually warm up with me after a while, once I start talking to them but it feels backwards, like I’m working to build the rapport. Yesterday, I took my Mom and although the guy helping us was friendly, he’d take our order, and twice forgot to make my sangria. First time I had to remind him and second time I asked another bartender. Now as I was sitting there, Kacee walked by and she was by far the friendliest person behind the bar. I saw her interacting with many of the guests, and she stopped and asked my mom and I how our food was. Very pleasant addition to the bar staff, I hope the others follow her style, It makes a big difference.

This place is surprisingly trashy, because their screens are always playing sports. You’d think that because it’s Whole Foods their entertainment choices would be more sophisticated, but no, same trashy screens you find down the street at the chicken wing place or any place. So it’s not unique, and I think because of this, that all the beautiful people shopping at the market cannot be found eating here, must be all those trashy sports. So it’s for heterosexual dudes who want to hang out with other heterosexual dudes, no room on those screens for anything intellectual or feminine, no room for beauty even with the FIDM so close. Also, when there is a DJ, forget about talking to the people you’re with, you can’t even hear yourself chew. I was hoping this place would be a savior for those of us who don’t enjoy seeing sweaty guys with exaggerated musculature chase each other around a court, but who still enjoy a nice beer and an organic burger, but no, we must continue to hide at home.

I feel like I was the only one ordering the crème brûlée on the menu here. Who knew that a regular ol’ vanilla crème brûlée topped with candied ginger would be amazing. However, the last couple times I’ve been here it’s been unforgivably bad. One time, it took 15 minutes to get our order and the brulee was straight up frozen when I went to eat it back at the office. The second time, it took 25 minutes and the top wasn’t even burnt. Sure it looked like it was torched, but when I got back to my office and it was like I was eating custard topped with ginger. No torched crunchy sugar topping to be found. I will give them stars for the friendly service and the fact that you get to keep the ramekin the crème brûlée comes in. Our office has a fat stack of about 10 of them. That’s how much we all liked this thing… but I just can’t handle the long wait and then the disappointment eating it afterwards.

Came here for happy hour yesterday! They have 3HH food items and I had 2 of them! I had the Poutine and the Nachos! They were both delicious! Also, they have a very friendly and helpful staff. Looking forward to going back!

I really wanted to like this place cause how many times can you say you’ve been drinking at Whole Foods? This place gets three stars mainly cause they do have a nice ambiance and the beer selection is solid. The service is very slow, however. The food is just A-OK. We ordered the SRIRACHACHICHARRONES, the CHEESE+CHEEKSFLATBREAD, and the POUTINE. + SRIRACHACHICHARRONES: Decent bar snack, but it’s bascially pork rinds with a sriracha-mayo dipping sauce. Nothing very special. + CHEESE+CHEEKSFLATBREAD: They try to go for the rustic look, but it misses the mark a bit. The flavors are ok and the cheese is pretty good. + POUTINE: Pretty hefty serving. Of the three dishes, I enjoyed this the most, but wish they gave a bit more cheese curd. The gravy had a nice mushroom taste to it.

Interesting menu. Terrible food. Ordered Brussels sprouts and cauliflower nachos. Both were soggy and over-seasoned. Gave up after just a few bites of each. Unlikely we will ever return. So many better choices in the neighborhood. First impressions last forever.

My friend and I grabbed a bite here before grocery shopping. She ordered a hamburger while I got the vegan burger. Although the food wasn’t exactly up to «gastropub» status, it wasn’t bad. I liked it :) I will definitely be back!

Grabbed a quick bite with my friend and it was just awful. First off the outdoor seating on the patio was full and indoors the Dj music was so loud we decided to find a seat on one of the street tables. I went inside to ask the security guard if they check those tables and he said YES. Well 20 minutes went by and no food so I went to ask again and he said YES. 5 minutes later a server comes and says«we’ve been looking everywhere for u guys, we normally don’t check for restaurant guests at these tables». She sets down our cold fries and cold wings and our ridiculous SRIRACHACHICHARRONES. The fries were probably good if they were at least warm, the wings are most definitely frozen, and the chicharrones are pretty much exactly like those $ 2 pork rind bags u can purchase at the market with some SRIRACHA mayo sauce. I guess you throw the word sriracha in front of something and u can charge whatever u want. Not impressed at all. I recommend you buy some pre made food from wholefoods and eat at the tables. Don’t waste your time with this ridiculous food(this place outta be ashamed).

Cool diverse crowd & great location with outdoor seating. Happy hour looks like a good deal even though it ends at 6pm and I’d never make it. Whole foods is a good addition to the area but the food at this connected bar is not good. Burger, chicken sandwich, and fries were dry and bland. I was very surprised and disappointed. There is no reason to have a bad meal in DTLA.

They were out of the almanac gose. Anyways, came here on a Friday night, it has a good amount of people but not overcrowded. Good beer selection and good prices! I tried the 3 weavers beer. It was good and the poutine fries were good also. The market fish just happened to be salmon which I hate, but it came with yummy carrots and potatoes which tasted delightful and were perfectly cooked. I would definitely come here for some food and drinks on a night where I don’t want to go out but I don’t want to stay in.

As much as I want to give this place a 5 star review, I just can’t… This place is adjacent to the new whole foods on 8th and grand. There’s quite the contrast walking in from a big bright market into the dim bar/pub restaurant setting with a young hipster vibe– the ambiance has a tendency to gravitationally pull you in. Endless beers and cocktails going up, as tireless youngsters flee to their fav happy hour joint… The warm dim lighting and dark furniture set the mood as the casual food/presentation offer comfort to the curious. Community seating as well as 2 top tables, sofas, and bar seating. You order at the register and they bring the food to you. Now on to the food… This is where I was disappointed. Crispy chicken sandwich– the chicken was so thin it was ‘barely there’. Sandwich was a little dry and needed a little more umph– although the portion was a good size and it came with fries. Sushi– was ok but could have been fresher. Mushroom flatbread– too doughy and needed more flavor. Fries– delicious no complaints. Overall– loved the ambiance and the casual vibe and the fact that they offered happy hour and fair prices, but I was expecting better food considering this place is related to whole foods.

Review for bar ONLY(not food). Welcome to the neighborhood! After many different Ralph’s renovations, I was skeptical that Whole Foods could make themselves a neighborhood essential especially since Ralph’s has been MYSHIT for so long. After coming to Eight Bar, I know Whole Foods had made its mark. The bar is affordable, swanky, and hip — I mean, as hip as any market bar can be. They have happy hour M-F from 3−6pm and daily specials that changes throughout the week. The days I’ve been here has been crazy crowded, there has been a DJ, and it’s always full of life. Last Sunday they were giving out free pretzels which was a nice treat. You can bring in food from the market and enjoy your meal with wine/beer/cocktail which is nice. I can totally see myself coming back to this bar just to drink. They have a nice patio, spacious interior seating, and a GREAT selection of beer and spirits. The Ralph’s bar has been a convenient stop, but Eight Bar is a destination.
