We picked this place at random while visiting Chinatown. Our meal was very tasty and fresh tasting. I was very surprised how much we enjoyed our meal. The sweet and sour chicken was crispy and yummy. Would recommend!

Visiting from Dallas after having arrived via Las Vegas, we ordered the lemon chicken and the kon pao shrimp. Both were prepared very well and tasted great. We had an enjoyable lunch and now we’re off to do some sightseeing. We’re lucky we stumbled onto this place.

The pan fried noodles are amazing. The sweet and pungent shrimp as well. The staff are the friendliest I’ve encountered

I love this place. By far my favorite Chinese food. I come here all the time and I live 70 miles away

The food was very good! Yes, I tried the sweet and pungent chicken and would recommend it too. In addition, the service was pretty good. It’s a nice place to try if you are ever in the area.

Hit or miss. I’ve had great food here and also had some duds. I wouldn’t go out my way for it.

I’ve been having a series of bad meals when I go out and this was no exception unfortunately. What makes a bad meal particularly annoying is when it’s expensive, and this place was. Ok, where to start: Sweet and pungent chicken; the meat was of poor quality and chewy but the flavor was ok. Buddha’s feast veggies, pretty flavorless and unappealing. Veggie fried rice was probably my least favorite. It was white rice not fried but had added in the usual veggies plus egg and tomato, which was weird, and flavorless. It was expensive for these 3 dishes, $ 55. WTF? So with tip came out to $ 65 and didn’t enjoy it at all. Won’t be back ever and the food really, really, really, sucked!

This place is a pass. We were in Chinatown, it was getting dark, and we were getting hungry. I did a quick scan of restaurants and saw this had really good reviews. The service here is great. Everyone’s really friendly. I believe it was the owner that took us to our table. Our waiter was awesome. The first sign this place might not be good is the fact that most of the people eating here were not Chinese. That’s always a bad sign. The prices were high, but typical for any fine dining Chinese restaurant. The meals are supposed to be eaten family style, so the prices reflect that. There was an option to do a package, but my boyfriend is a really picky eater and he didn’t want anything in the grouping. Another bad sign was that there was automatically a fork instead of chopsticks on the table. What kind of asian restaurant has a fork on the table? We ordered beef fried rice and Pungent Shrimp. I also did the $ 7.99 add on for the soup, egg roll, and some sort of Wonton. We paid $ 46. The food was not worth the price. I hate to say this, but Panda Express is better than what I ate here. The Fried Rice was overcooked and had too much soy sauce. My boyfriend didn’t like the beef because it was too fatty, which I didn’t mind, but there wasn’t any flavor. The Pungent Shrimp was also overcooked and had a really weird after taste. The add on was completely pointless and small. Not the restaurants fault, but I laughed when I opened my fortune cookie and there was no fortune. Boyfriend told me later that the men’s bathroom was dirty. The women’s was clean though. The only saving grace for this place is the service.

This restaurant is truly a gem. They have affordable valet and plenty of dining space. The vibe is festive and I typically never have to wait to be seated, they also deliver. The food is fresh and delicious. My favorites are the Pungent Shrimp(sweet & tangy) and the shrimp fried rice! I will have to explore the rest of the menu as I’m sure it’s promising.

Plum Tree Inn has fantastic food and even better service. My father has a visual disability and our server kindly and graciously went far beyond expectations to make sure that he was extremely comfortable. He is the only server ever that has actually fixed a plate for my dad, and I was just blown away by his thoughtfulness. We also appreciated that he told us when we had ordered enough, and I am glad he did because we still walked away with tons of leftovers. NOTE: Their portions are very generous, their prices are on the slightly higher side, but you pay for delicious food, excellent service, and a great ambiance. Food: We loved the: crispy beef; sweet and pungent shrimp; chicken fried rice; and the Shanghai dumplings. The wonton soup could have used a little more spice to it, and was quickly fixed by adding some.

I’m a huge fan of Chinese takeout. I get this place delivered all the time through the rush order app. Beats having to go all the way to Chinatown to find parking on your own. My favorites are the lo mein, honey walnut shrimp and the yang chow fried rice. As with most Chinese restaurants, their menu is extensive so will have to try all the other items eventually. :)

We really enjoyed eating here. I was reading some negative reviews about how some dishes don’t have flavor. The reviews on Unilocal had some mixed reviews of good and bad, so we decided to give this place a try. The food looked good to us and we were craving Chinese food. Now first before I explain things here. Just to let everyone know. You can park for FREE right next to the restaurant. It’s where the drive way is on Broadway next to the front door. We made the mistake of parking at the public parking lot for $ 5. Lesson learned :) So now we walked inside this place and it was near empty inside. I was a little intimidated by that. It was a Friday evening and it was not busy. But we still proceeded to eat here. The waiter was very friendly. The menus are not full of pages and pages of items, it was only 4 pages. We ordered the sweet and Pungent shrimp which was delicious!!! It reminded me of orange chicken at Panda Express when made fresh, only this was shrimp, the shrimp was breaded and crispy. There was a pleasant taste. This is a dish you gotta try here. We also ordered the yang chow fried rice which has BBQ pork, chicken, beef and shrimp, that was delicious as well. And we ordered the shanghai dumplings and Buddha’s feast with shrimp and tofu, all the items were delicious, there was no complaints about taste or portions. Prices are a little higher then your usual Chinese place, but it’s worth it to us. I do wish they had chili paste here. That was the only thing I would say that bummed me out, they do have a chili oil, but I’m a fan of the chili paste :) I still give 5 stars to this hidden gem, it’s right on Broadway and deserves 5 stars. Also I am a germaphobe and I did not see anything that was dirty or nasty here.

I would never thought in a million years to come to China Town for dinner. When an invitation came up, we were skeptical and did some Unilocal pre-view on the restaurant, Meh… its very generic stuff so we didn’t expect too much out of it. Unlike most places in China Town, Plum Tree Inn has its own big parking lot in the back which makes it easier for parking. As we entered, the atmosphere was a lot quieter than expected. We were blown away by the food. Instead of generic Chinese menu, they actually serve theirs with a twist of homestyle cooking, sorta like Chinese Soul food(from the Southern area). I am sorry I could’t name those menu items because everyone was ordered upon our arrival. I remember the Lobster with rice cake on the bottom, Beijing duck wraps, shrimp and scallop, etc. They were all outstanding! Service was great and all of their staffs speak fluent English. Highly recommended!

Based on waiter service and how quick our food came out 5 stars… prices, portions and food 2 stars. I was in the area for a work function and this is where our party of 10 dediced to dine for lunch, we had reserved a room but where told we don’t have a room… whatevers. We where quickly seated, menus given, drinks brought, orders taken and bamm food was being served before I returned from the rest room. I knew not to expect much ordering from the lunch menu but I thought I would get more then just white rice(no brown rice at all) and a cup of soup — drink not included for $ 13+. What was served was a little too salty for my taste — Beef & Broccoli. I tried bites from the other plates and again a little too salty for me. Parking asides from being validated(ask inside) was a plus especially in the area during lunch time. Will I return? Nope. — It’s not #LittleDudeRamZ friendly for us to return.

Fantastic service! Our waiter, Daniel, was friendly, attentive and helpful. The amount of food for the price is very reasonable. We ordered the vegetable dumplings, Chicken with Black Bean Sauce and Sweet & Sour Chicken with white rice. Everything was delicious! One dish can absolutely feed two people! We took 4 to-go boxes! Yummm…

Looked up szechuan and this place came up but I have to say, this is NOT szechuan(unless they have a different menu). They do have validated parking in the back which is a MAJOR bonus anywhere in LA. :) The décor and ambiance is very intimate and modern and clean. There are plenty of tables and I doubt they’re ever really full so seating shouldn’t be a huge problem. They also have very nice conference rooms! Aside from being disappointed about the lack of szechuan food(even though it’s written on their menu), the food itself wasn’t too bad but not too great. I ordered the chow mein but it just tasted like soy sauce and the noodles were a little too soft/soggy for me. Their fried rice was very good though. That being said, portions are more than generous. Service was also decent. The owner was super polite and friendly and greeted us but I thought our waiter was less than desirable. I felt like we were bugging him the whole time and that he just wasn’t very happy to be there(which he probably wasn’t but he definitely wasn’t trying to hide it either).

2015 Unilocal100CHALLENGE — 045⁄100 I came in with 5 co-workers for lunch and It was a great experience. The lunch prices are wonderful. The customer service was great too. He kept refilling our drinks and asking us how things were tasting. I got a spicy chicken dish and it was great. They also refilled our pot of rice which was cool. We all really enjoyed our food. This was my first time here and I’ll be back soon!

*** 3.5 stars *** Plum Tree is pretty good for Chinese food outside of the San Gabriel Valley. It is comparable to Yang Chow, but with a much shorter(read: no) wait. We decided to have our Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner here, and there was still no wait. I wish that I knew we had to order the Peking(Beijing) duck in advance, because I bet it’s amazing. We tried to order it when we arrived, but it was a no go. I’d definitely come back here just to try it, and I have a feeling that it just might bump my review up to 4 stars. Others have accused Plum Tree Inn of being unauthentic, and they do cater to non-Chinese people with some of their dishes, but you can also find authentic dishes on their menu. There’s a little something for everyone, but take your time with the menu and ask questions, because some dishes are definitely better than others. The«Special Package» is an add on for $ 7.55 that adds soup, an egg roll, and paper wrapped chicken to any package, but I’d recommend to pass on this and order an appetizer instead. It’s a very small amount of food and nothing is great. The Spicy Crispy Shrimp was served as fried shrimp with the skin still on it. We were expecting it to be served differently, but that was our fault for not asking the question. You can’t really go wrong with fried shrimp, but it wasn’t really that spicy and we needed to use the egg roll sauce to add some extra flavor to it. For $ 18.55 it’s not something that I’d order again. The Jade Chicken was great. It is advertised as spicy and while it’s not really that spicy, it is very flavorful and my favorite dish that we got. It is served as shredded chicken, which is tender and a generous serving size. We opted for the Yang Chow Fried Rice which was also a generous serving size and very authentic — it reminded me of something that my mom would make. It’s definitely on the expensive side for Chinese… we spent about $ 50 excluding beverages and before tip. but we did have enough leftovers for a second meal. ** Parking: There is a free lot(validated for 2 hours), but it is very crowded and very stacked. There is an attendant that you need to tip to help you navigate it **
