The Tommy Lasorda menu was a very great deal. $ 12.5 for each person and you’ll get 8 menus of chinese food. I love it. The portion was great too. The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that the food wasn’t fresh. :|

This place was recommended by a coworker. The food is amazing and quite economical. The staff is very friendly and service is great. The place could use a remodel. It’s pretty run down. Other than that, love it!

First off you don’t accept debit or credit cards?! It’s 2016.
It was an inconvenience to wait for parking, park, then be told it’s cash only. I then had to leave and find the nearest ATM.
We ordered Chow Mein, Orange Chicken, Fried Rice and a Wonton Soup.
Only plate that was decent was the Soup. Everything else was sub par. My love for orange chicken is something special and this place has really left me with feelings of resentment towards one of my favorite foods.
The orange chicken seemed to be a bit undercooked and it wasn’t served hot along with all of the other food when it arrived to our table. I took a chance and i ate it.
I was sick the following 2 days. I was puking my guts out and i also had some other bodily complications i rather not describe on here. I won’t ever go back and hopefully my love for orange chicken can someday be rekindled.

This place is awesome for the War wonton Soup! Its the best! Try it. I haven’t had any other as good as this one! Free parking, they close early tho. The staff is really nice.

Old school restaurant since 1946. The place doesn’t look that old from the outside but once you walk in you can see the nostalgia. I sat at the counter and ordered the Kung Pao chicken combo which comes with rice and soup. I asked that the Kung Pao be spicy but I barely felt any heat while eating away using the fork provided, no chop sticks? The food is okay and the atmosphere top notch so I am giving this place 4 stars for hanging in there all these years.

Best Chinese restaurant ever! I come here a lot and it never disappoints. From the chasu wonton to the shrimp chow mein, it’s been a favorite since I was a kid. A little pricey but their food comes on a platter and you serve yourself. So if you get an appetizer, chow mein, rice, and two choices of meat, you’ll easily spend $ 40. This is a place where you should come with more than two people because it’s a lot of food. And one of the perks about this place is Tommy Lasorda comes often! I’ve met him twice here and he’s always up to meeting fans. The staff is incredible too. They’re so kind and always smiling. Whether you’re in LA or visiting the city, definitely stop by and try this place. It’s in a very small area so make sure you come at a good time to find parking cuz it gets packed fast! But you’ll definitely come back for more!

I was craving something noodle-​y, so checked to see what was around the area. Found this little place and decided to give it a shot. The restaurant is in a little parking lot, but very hard to miss… pretty good that there’s free parking however since that itself is pretty hard to find in dtla. Entered and I was greeted by a nice man at the counter which immediately seated me. The environment was a little outdated, but that was totally OK as I only went for a quick meal. The server arrived after a minute or two and brought starters like crispy noodles and chicken soup. I’m vegetarian, so I skipped the soupy bits – instead I scarfed down the crispies that I soaked in tapatio sauce (there are condiments such as soy sauce, sriracha, etc. on the table). Anyway, I looked at their menu in hopes to see tofu/​veggie options, but unfortunately 98% was meat based. I opted for the veggie chow mein. The server took my order and about 5 minutes later the food was ready. The noodles looked appetizing and smelled nice.
…Yes, this dish had really nice flavor but it was incredible much oil there was! The oil and this strange clearish sauce pooled to the bottom of the noodles. Not good. Then it hit me; it was soaked in msg as well. You have the option to have your food cooked without msg but why did I skip this beats me. I ended up tossing the leftovers cos I couldn’t handle taking another bite. Now my stomach hurts.
Overall, this place has potential. It would be extra, extra awesome if they can offer veggie friendly dishes. The server was attentive so I give them an extra star for that.

Hidden gem in the sketchy place of LA! Black pepper beef is thus far my favorite! Their wonton soup is also good. Orange chicken is okay, not my favorite but this one was okay. Veggie chowmein was also one of my favorites. Definitely going back for lunch hour

Picked up lunch today 11÷6÷2015 and a roach crawled out of my orange chicken. Never going back.

This it Tommy Lasorda’s spot for Chinese food so my buddies and I had to get the Lasorda Special, which for 4 people included wonton soup, chashu pork, bbq pork, beef and asparagus, shrimp in lobster sauce, orange chicken, kung pao chicken, fried rice, and eggrolls. We added a chicken chow mein, and it was A LOT OF FOOD. The Lasorda Special would’ve been enough by itself to feed us twice over. Apparently Lasorda knows how to pack it in. I’m not sure if he eats all of it himself, but make sure you bring backup when you go.
Some things were better than others. Definitely liked the chashu pork, beef and asparagus, orange chicken, fried rice, and egg rolls. The other dishes were a bit on the salty side. I’d give this place 3 stars normally, but it’s got a nostalgia factor. It’s like walking into a 50’s diner, one that just happens to be a Chinese restaurant. It’s complete with a dining counter and framed pictures of past Dodger greats. It was also SUPER cool going to the bathroom knowing I used the same urinal that Tommy Lasorda used. FUCK YEAH!!!

THE BEST CHINESE FOOD IN L.A./Orange County!!! The chow mein is the best I have EVER had (in all versions/​combinations they make — TRY it also with their pan fried noodles!!!), the WAR WONTON SOUP is unmatched as far as flavor and ingredients– the broth they use for it is fantastic all by itself! The pork with Chinese greens is so flavorful and delicious… my very FAVORITE is the shrimp with lobster sauce and steamed rice… they use black bean in the sauce they make for it and it is totally AUTHENTIC! I can not get it anywhere else like they make it. ALL dishes are 100% fabulous… those are just a few of my true loves.
I also like the vintage feel about the place and the long, long history they have in Los Angeles. Staff is wonderful. Many past celebs have dropped by and they have pictures of many from yester-​year upon their walls. Tommy Lasorda is their biggest fan!
Not fancy, but THE best food I have ever had, period! I live over an hour away and 20 years ago I use to drive there constantly… TRY IT!

So now I know why Tommy Lasorda is always napping! No MSG my arse!
We requested no MSG as advertised on their menu. Now, going into this I knew their sauces would be pre made and probably packed with the nasty stuff… and I was correcto.
Got the Lasorda Special. Their Chasu is fine, a bit rubbery. The egg roll was just soaking in grease. I’m used to greasy Chinese food but this was inedible.
Orange Chicken is unique, and swimming in a molasses like syrup that quickly sogs up the batter in a heartbeat… and to add to that – the goddamn batter is 99% of your «chicken» dish! No chicken at all. WTF

Grumpy as all get out older Chinese woman who continued to groan and grunt at us during her tenure. No tea refill, no offer of water. Nada.
However, as I dropped my cash down she drooled and stared at her potential cut. After giving my change she stood back and watched me, eyeing if I added more than the few bucks left in change.
Well I sure did not.
She earned it
For the rest of the day I felt so tired. Unnaturally tired. My head pounded until I went to sleep.
So Pauls, you may have been great once but your history doesn’t make you great today.

My grandparents have been coming here since the late 60s and I have been coming here since birth. This place is bomb-​dot-​com. We ALWAYS get the same thing wonton soup, shrimp chow mein, and beef and asparagus.
The employees are so cute, they try their best to speak Spanish with my grandparents and it’s honestly the best thing ever.

Paul Kitchen… literally a landmark in Los Angeles. Its definitely not the fancy sparking Taiwanese and HK restaurants in Monterey Park. Its not even in the Los Angeles main Chinatown area. Its from a bygone era when «Chinese American food» was «Chop Suey» and «Egg Foo Young» which really aren’t Chinese… These Cantonese style restaurants popped up all over country, some offering dancing and a place for the immigrants to hang out. They seem to all reside in buildings owned by one Chinese family” association” or another … another word for old school gangs !!
Do not come here expecting the best meal on earth!!! It was created years ago for the «American taste» and Cantonese food is a much different style. Why come here then? For the history and décor of the restaurant !! The dishes and the flavors of the meals are still great (maybe a little heavy on the salt/​msg) The soups are very comforting, the hard to find spare ribs are here!, and you can still find dishes like Chop Suey and Egg Foo Young that will surely disappear. The Combo plates I used to get as a kid, the ones that offer a different dish with each extra person are fantastic deals! Come to see Charlie, a character that exemplifies the place! Tommy Lasorda calls it the «Best Chinese food! «This place is basically your old school, comforting dive bar that hasn’t changed in 50 years. Where else am I gonna get some fried noodle appetizers, almond cookies, and of course my lucky fortune cookie? Not in China thats for sure !!

I’m stuffed. This place is kool. Service is fine. Dip in and dip out. Nice people. 25.00 for two if you dine in.

I am sorry to say we just had to stopped going please to go here in the sixties Paul kitchen and Man Fuk Low restaurant (Old School). We stopped because of the meat was subpar it was so chewy can bland there are much better places to go. But if you want to see old school China town restaurant go here but be careful what you order

Ahh once again the good lord has blessed me with another hidden gem, well for me anyway the place has been around for about 70 years. So here’s my experience at Paul’s kitchen, today I arrived after aimlessly Unilocaling through DTLA, this place popped up… WHAT!!! an old Chinese joint just on the east outskirts of DTLA and I haven’t been! Looks like this visit is a must people!
Ok so I walk in this place immediately you get that old school nostalgic dodger vibe from this place, very cool. I’m greeted with a big smile and happy customers, wow instantly you can feel the positive energy from this place as I look at all the Dodger memorabilia. I also see a cash only sign, ok no worries I’m not gonna let that deter me from a great sit down at an LA staple like this. I find an atm about a half a block up the street and me and my girl are ready for showtime ladies and gentleman. The waiter recommends the Tommy Lasorda special. Ok sounds great let’s do it.
First thing that comes out is the piping hot war wonton soup, broth tastes amazing, and I must say great soup overall. Ok so my expectations for the rest of the food is quite high. It comes out immediately and I gotta say this kinda bugs me, because it’s pretty much common sense to let the customer enjoy they’re soup before the entrée right ladies and gentlemen, are you with me here?
Ok no big deal I guess. I try the rest of the food and it’s decent Chinese very simple fried rice was very dark like the stir fry dishes a little heavy on the soy sauce. All that said I’m not complaining due to the fact that my meal was well worth the price. This wait staff or at least mine anyway really makes you feel at home, I mean these guys were playing jokes on me and my girl like giving us oversized orders and pretending they got our orders wrong. I love it and another thing I gotta point out is the customers blew me and my girls mind, they were coming to us insisting I try different dishes the gentlemen who came to my table said «come and taste this were all family here»
He gives me a healthy portion of the peaking Duck NICE!
There’s so many good things I have to say about this place but I’ll just leave you guys by saying it’s a great bang for your buck come for the good vibes order the war wonton I’ve had better, but not many so if your tired of yang chow or the same old DTLA spots give this place a try. Trust your uncle E you’ll be glad you did!

I only get one thing here:
Wor Wonton Soup. It’s probably the best soup in it’s class. There’s a taste that you can’t get from other wonton soups, because they use their house Cha shu in their soup. The porky flavor that it imparts makes this dish standout from all the other ones I’ve had. The serving size is large. It will easily feed 2 people or 1 extremely hungry person.
Although people are recommending other dishes at this place, I’d only stick with Wor Wonton Soup if you really want something for the money. I wasn’t really too impressed with the other offerings. Maybe the Cha Shu plate or Cha Shu Egg Foo Young was a distant second, but my memory will always have a special place for the Wor Wonton Soup here.

If it’s a cold or rainy day in LA (which is not often) Paul’s kitchen is a good place to stop and have some wonton soup. It always hits the spot.
As for the rest of the Cantonese cuisine you’ll find here, it’s a bit salty. It has similarities to food you will find at most Chinese restaurants. The Tommy Lasorda special is the easy choice if your with a group, but I’d suggest selecting some of the dishes from the menu. You might be able to pick and choose some combinations more up your alley.
I recommend the orange chicken, wonton soup, and shrimp fried rice. I dig this place! Friendly service with an old school atmosphere in an offbeat neighborhood in the garment district of downtown LA.
