We were looking to find a chinese restaurant near our place and still open after 8pm on a Friday night. I never knew Chu’s Kitchen was a short walk! We decided to eat there. It was empty but several customers came in to pick up their orders. It was nice having a restaurant to ourselves. Service was fine and food was decent. We ordered garlic soy chicken-boneless and beef chow fun. Both entrees were filled with a lot of veggies! I was happy about that since I was contemplating if I should order green beans as a veggie dish. I felt there was less meat in our entrees. I was somewhat disappointed with the chicken since we ordered it boneless and I didn’t expect it to come out in little pieces. We will definitely try it with bones next time.

Had to grab a last minute meal before I played a show at «Villains Tavern» and I decided to go to this little restaurant. The food was good and the lady at the counter was friendly :)

Good Chinese food at a reasonable price and not too greasy. Perfect lunch spot in the Fashion District!

+ Great lunch special + Very friendly service +/-Food tasted okay Came here for lunch the other day and had some orange chicken, as well as some other chicken. I forgot which lol. I’ve had better from other ma-pa type shops. Of course, I’ve only had a small sample size, so I wouldn’t say all their other options are bad. But I probably wouldn’t come back here. I also had white rice and it was a bit dry for my liking. One big plus is that the service is very nice here. Attentive and friendly, which I always like. If you’re looking for Chinese food and you’re in the area, you should give this place a try. Maybe you’ll end up liking it more than I do. :)

The service is very friendly. Had the garlic soy sauce chicken(in bone), huge mistake, I think it’ll be better boneless. I decided to come back and give it another try, I got the chow mien and orange chicken. It was pretty good, but nothing out of this world.

The lady here is friendly and the food is above average. I always end up overeating and then eating leftovers the next day so I try not to eat here too often… It does take a while though, because the Chinese man in the back(Chu?) is cooking everything by himself. Also… I wasn’t a huge fan of their orange chicken… but that may be because I like Panda Express for that haha

I love this place! The food is quick and delicious. The woman who runs the restaurant is so sweet and welcoming! We’ve eaten multiple things on this menu and have yet to be disappointed!

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a baller on a budget who’s always looking for the best deal. After finding great Mexican, Japanese and Mediterranean — it was only right that my next haunt be a Chinese food place in the heart of downtown. From the looks outside, Chu’s Kitchen is unassuming — well here’s the thing about the word«assume»…after stepping inside and taking one huge whiff of their delicious establishment, I knew I was sold. Everything smelled and looked so good, and you could even see it through their buffet style glass. Between the three of us, we split a large soup, orange chicken and I scarffed down a few BBQ pork buns because, I’m me. It was incredibly affordable and out of this world yummy; I’ll definitely be coming back.

Good selection and large portion sizes for the cost. The small was still enough to share. Their store menu had more than their online menu(includes combo options). I got the hot and sour soup and Ma Poo Tofu which were both good. The only downside was wait time. Call ahead and that should alleviate that.

I have tried a few dishes from them, but they are just pretty stander. However, I absolutely love their Spicy Ginger Chicken Noodle Soup. With their homemade chili oil, their spicy ginger noodle soup became one of the most comforting soup in the cold weather. This place is own by a really friendly lady and her husband who cooks in the kitchen. The place has been around 20 years before the LA Riots, and have seen many changes in DTLA. Have a little chat with her next time you wait for your order. Just remember to give the man some time to cook your dish.

I choo-choo-choose to stay away from Chu’s for a while. Their beef chow mien with chili oil was great, but the Bok choy was very dirty, the sauce had a lot of MSG, and they seemingly haven’t heard of brown rice. You serve me Old Dirty Bok Choy, Imma say«Gimme my money.» This was way overpriced for what should be simple and nutritious. You have to work really hard to screw this up. My kitchen arrived in boxes just in time.

We were in a hurry, we called ahead and headed their about 30minutes after we called and still have to wait for an extra 15. The food was mediocre. Its okay if your looking for something cheap

I don’t understand why this place has so many good reviews. I came in with a co-worker for lunch today and as soon as we walked in we thought about walking out. It doesn’t look clean. We thought maybe the food would be good since it has pretty good reviews. MISTAKE. Chow mein is bland, rice is bland. Pork was tender but it tasted like plastic. EGGROLLS were SOOOOGROSS, the sauce tasted funny. They were soft and tasted like old fishy oil. Green bean tofu thing? That was bland, burnt and weird looking. The Mushroom chicken dish? Mushrooms were gross and I have never in my life tasted a gross mushroom. It was mushy and had a brown sauce in it. Co-worker ordered a Hi-C and it tasted like tang with sprite. All in all, highlight of the meal was a Coke. Not happy after spending $ 20+ on lunch and ending up with upset stomachs and still hungry. Don’t come here. Place looks dirty too. Don’t know how they got an A rating…

Best Chinese food in L. A!!! My friend and I wanted to grab some Chinese. All of the Chinatown places had surprisingly low reviews but this place had lots of great ones so we decided to try it. When I first walked in I thought it was a «load up the tray and eat out of a styrofoam container» kind of place but I was delightfully surprised! They invited us to sit down, we were famished so we immediately ordered the wonton soup. They brought us some fried wonton skins to snack on. Later we’d order entrees. After a little bit I started getting impatient, «Is this taking forever or am I just super hungry?» She said, «I think it’s taking a while.» Then I found out why. They brought the soup to the table, served it into bowls for us making sure to give us each equal parts. And omg! It was so amazingly delicious! You could tell everything was super fresh and had just been made. I declared«WOW! THAT is what a shrimp is supposed to taste like.» I had the kung pao chicken which was also amazing, I honestly don’t remember what my friend was having but we were both picking off each other’s plates and it was fantastic! I’ve now been there a bunch of times and recently moved closer, walked down for lunch and was, once again, astonished by how fresh and delicious everything on the menu is.

Chi’a kitchen is good for a dine in or take out. They have a steam table with ready to go food or you can order from their full menu. The lady that works here, probably the owner is very nice, and always smiling. I’ve been here for lunch a few times with co-workers and it’s just good food for an affordable price.

Their garlic soy chicken wings are so good. I would love to order a ton of them on Sunday and sit in front of the TV watching football. The food is really fresh and of high-quality. This isn’t one of those super cheap Chinese takeout restaurants but the portions are generous and the prices are great. I will definitely be back

For those in the know, this is MY Kitchen. ;) I was just looking up for some late night eats with a friend that was feeling quite under the weather. She didn’t want anything too complicated, so whipping out my Unilocal app., we decided on this place. Inexpensive and more importantly OPEN. This family run kitchen has a high ceiling, my friend said it reminded her eateries you would find in Chicago. I’ve never been to Chicago so I’m taking her word for it. The step up is Panda Express style with steam trays in the counter, but when we arrived everything was put away, scaring us thinking that the place was closed. Mrs. Chu came out from the Kitchen after hearing my tentative, «Hello, are you open?» and gave us a reassuring welcome. Egg rolls and fried rice were too greasy of an option for my sick friend, so she decided on the Chicken Ginger soup. Loggical, since we all know that Chicken Soup is a panacea. :p The ginger is also a bonus since it has analgesic, sedative, antipyretic and antibacterial properties. The soup had many large slices of ginger to the point where you cold have mistaken them for bamboo. My friend was able to stomach her soup and with the protein from the chicken was able to restore some strength from battling of the germs. I would visit this place again, it’s right next door to Wood Spoon and has none of the pretensions. I enjoyed talking with Mrs. Chu in Cantonese and was quite charmed with the Kitchen, clean and spacious there is enough seating for a couple dozen people.
