Best pizza I’ve ever tasted. My first impression of the restaurant told me I should probably stay away from the place because of the lighting and over all look of the building from the parking lot. Once inside not much changes, but everything goes 180 on you once your pizza is served. The pizza we ordered was half pesto and half something else. I can say that was the best pizza I ever ate in my life. It costed twenty something dollars and was worth it. I love the fact that I was caught off guard lol.

Say it isn’t so. This was one of my favorite pizza places in Los Angeles. Please tell me they are re-opening somewhere else in the city. This was too good of a restaurant to just let it disappear.

I just got off the phone with Nicky D at his Santa Barbara location and learned that this location is CLOSED! Devastation station… the only good pizza on the east side.

First off — This isn’t the East Coast. I know how awesome Pizza is in your various East Coast localities. This is Los Angeles, and you have to accept right off the bat — for all the global cuisines we knock out of the park, pizza is one we haven’t gotten all the way there with yet. Reviews from New York pizza snobs who say that LA pizza du jour doesn’t compare, no duh, doesn’t help. So Nicky D’s… I walked down here with my roommate since we’re close by. I certainly can say I enjoyed my pizza going experience. The dough of the crust is pretty good, though the wood fire oven might not make the doneness as even as one may like. On the plus side, you can order your pizza with fresh mozzarella which really comes through when you eat it. The décor of the restaurant is quaint and homey, and has a very casual, relaxed atmosphere. I could imagine though seating can get to be a bit of a headache during a dinner rush — might be best to get take out opr delivery in that case. Service is so-so. We were there pretty early in the day, but the waitress could be a little slow at times. But nothing attrocious or unbearable I would certainly come here again. it’s a respectable pizza, and a damn sight better than the typical fare in Los Angeles. If you[’re looking for somewhere comparable to New York quality in pizza, this just ain’t the town for you.

Great for dates. Definitely eat outside on the patio. there is one table that overlooks the boulevard. Aim for that one. Food is great and prices match the quality. It is a very trendy and very hipster place.

I expected sub-par pizza based on the poor reviews. However, I actually liked the pizza– thin crust with good tomato sauce. We ordered a pizza– half with sausage, half with pepperoni. We ended up getting a pizza with half cheese, half pepperoni and sausage. This is indicative of our experience with the wait staff here– half-assed attention to customer service. We were the only ones in the restaurant but our waitress paid no attention to us. We had to get up and ask for things like condiments, a refill on our drinks, and the bill. Pizza is good. Service is not.

Yes, this place has mixed reviews. It has it’s downfalls; busy street, minimal parking, inconsistent service… That said — if you try the calzone, you may just be a customer for life! Seriously delicious, super cheesy, stuffed full of whatever ingredients you please… The pizza is near perfect too, with loads of toppings to choose from, including avocado!(Yes, avocado pizza really is amazing). If you’re in for a cozy(fireplace), relaxed vibe with reasonably priced, exceptional tasting pizza then this is definitely worth trying. *Get there early, kitchen closes 10pm

So, I have to say, this was one god awful experience. First, how do you get a pizza order wrong? I asked for one slice with pep and meatball, one with sausage and mushroom. Twenty minutes later(in an empty restaurant sans one dude) I get two slices with pep and mushroom. Then another twenty minutes later, I was given a wildly undercooked individual pie with the proper toppings. The individual pie was a ‘gesture’ of gratitude for waiting forty minutes and getting the order wrong and the gesture would had meant something, kinda, even though the pizza blew, except he charged me full price for it. DON“T GOHERE. Below average pizza and horrendous service.

Had our Pizza Club meeting here, great choice, the place is big and the pizza is awesome! I liked the thin, crispy crust and fresh toppings. My favorite was the Blonde Bunny it had ricotta, goat, mozzarella and romano cheese with roasted garlic olive oil… so good! I’m a huge fan of white pizza, this is probably the best one I’ve had. It had a subtle sweetness and ooh so cheesy! I tried the Chicken Alfredo and Pepperoni also tasty!

Oh Nicky D’s… I am dissapoint. My girlfriend had been wanting to try this place out for months. Something about the sign with the picture of what I can only assume is Nicky D himself just seemed so enticing to her. We planned a date night there recently. Went in with high hopes(but really, we aren’t snobs and just wanted a fun experience). Were sat in a comfortable/cozy setting, lots of wood, one other party consisting of two families was just finishing up. Service was great at first, prompt and attentive. We got our drinks, put in our orders and got our pizza in a timely fashion. We ordered a garlic and clam white pizza. Pizza was good, mildly soggy, but whatever, I’ll chalk it up to the clam. Nothing fantastic, just a decent pizza. We also got garlic bread, which tasted like oven baked frozen garlic bread… meh. But the service oh my god… Terrible. We never saw either waitress again! Honestly, they lost so much money since we walked and were in the mood to get sloshed! Would have ordered so many more drinks had we had the chance. But nope. After waiting 45 minutes after finishing our meal, I finally got up and asked for the check and a box, which took another 5 – 10 minutes to get to us. I’ll mention that as everyone else said, the place was nearly bare. Two other tables and two waitresses that were great at the beginning, but then just disappeared and seemed annoyed when I asked for the check. Sucky McSuckerson right there man. The pizza was decent, the service crappy, don’t think I’ll be making it back. sorry Nicky D…

So, I ordered at 7:12 I live ½ mile away. The lady said 45 minutes. 1 hr and 30 minutes later I call and ask where it is and she says«traffic is really bad» I am literally ½ a mile away and when i asked why she said the traffic and did not offer a discount or anything to even cop to accountability of them being grossly late from having to come 15 blocks. Horrible will never order again. Worst customer service lady.

After living in the area for a couple of years I never made it to this place until last night. Probably entirely because of where it is located. I am just not ever likely to consider going to a place on Rowena just because of the busy street, parking difficulties, and constant construction. But my friend said it was good, so we decided to go after I checked their menu online. When I got there, the place was deserted with the exception of one couple. I dont know how they could stay in business if this is what it is usually like. There is very limited parking, so please carpool if going there! The architecture is weird, there seems to be two places and an outdoor area between them, all up one story. Inside is full of old hollywood photos and antiques. They have a decent variety of toppings, and their beer isnt the most expensive in town(about $ 5-$ 6/pint). We ordered a large«House Vegetarian» pizza, which according to the menu comes with: olives, mushrooms, green peppers, artichoke hearts, and zucchini. I asked if I could swap out the green peppers for eggplant, and they were fine with that. It was very good overall, but there was no zucchini when we got it, and the artichoke hearts tasted pretty funky, not sure where they sourced those from as I have never had them taste like that before. Next time I will be sure to ask for it without those, and make sure that they include all promised vegetables. The music was pretty bad, and kind of loud. Didnt make much sense for it to be so loud when we were basically the only people there. They also had a TV on playing Law and Order, which was hard to hear because of the music, not that I would want to hear it, or have a TV on at a restaurant anyways, but just thought I would mention it. As far as my overall rating for my list-o-pizzarias on the East Side goes, it is definitely not the worst place, as the pizza was good and they are open kind of late(till 10pm on weekdays I believe), and they have good vegetarian options(anything other than onions and bell peppers really!), however the lack of attention to detail, overall music level, and general price for the pie(about $ 21), this would not be my first choice for a pizza. But if I wanted to split a pie with someone in a sit down place, then Nicky D’s would definitely come to mind. My beef with non big chain pizza places(as I have mention in other reviews) is that they always want to charge around $ 20 for a large pizza, usually only for two toppings. This offered a little more, though one could hardly count olives and mushrooms as the same price point as some of the meat options… if they want to target the crowd of people who get pizza cravings but dont want to spend over $ 20 on dinner, they need to offer more competitive prices. I guarantee that if they made a large pizza about $ 12, they would get twice the business. That is the main reason why I dont order pizzas more, and often op for stopping by a taco truck and getting a burrito for less than $ 5… fast and cheap.

Im not sure how but the wife found out about this place but we headed over here after work one day for some pie. I love the feel and the vibe of this place. It’s obviously in someone’s old house, so it’s pretty chill. We ordered a peperoni and spinach pizza and managed to finish the whole dammed thing. I have to say I was impressed how yummy it was… I will definitely go back here again!

I ordered the Nicky D-lux(no mushrooms) and it was Amazing i had never tried pizza that good before !! :) …
it’s a pretty cool place I love the outside patio. I think Nicky D’s is more for big groups rather then a couples night out waitress was pretty friendly that’s always a plus: D I cant say anything bad about this place or the food I absolutely loved it ! ! I def will be back !

Ordered Nicky D’s for takeout to consumer while watching the March Madness National Championship game between Uconn(Winners) and Butler(Losers). The game viewing party was at my friend’s house in Silverlake and Nick D’s is closest pizza. I appreciate that the pizzas are woodfired, but the pizza does simply not stand up to my Valley favorite Danielle’s Woodfired Pizza. Our party hosts ordered a large deluxe. The pizza was north of $ 30. Summary, a good place for a pie if you live in the neighborhood but not a destination pizzeria.

This is my favorite pizza joint in Silverlake — possibly in LA. I am currently in the midst of a love affair with the Pesto Bravo, and more than one of my friends are in the same boat. It’s okay though. I don’t mind sharing. The Pesto Bravo is simply too good to be true, especially for all you garlic lovers out there(if you’re not a garlic fan, it’s easy to scrape the garlic chunks off your ‘za and still get the same tasty affect without the vampire-stopping breath). They’ve got good seating indoors and out, and personally, I’m a fan of the atmosphere. Indoors, you can always find soccer games on the tube, or you can sit outside at night under heated lamps or during the day. The outdoor patio area is great for big groups. There is one dude who works there that makes creepy comments to my boyfriend and me, which is why I’ve delayed posting this for so long. In all honesty, as much as I love Nicky D’s, it definitely makes me second guess going there, especially when it’s just me and the boyfriend(the comments cease when we’re in large groups, or if we don’t go together. It’s weird). On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Nicky D(the owner) is a totally cool dude. I was there once with one of my girlfriends and he talked to us for a long time. He was super friendly! If you’ve yet to check this place out, definitely add it to your«to-do’s». Nicky D’s is fantastic and will be a favorite of mine forevah.

the blonde bunny(ricotta, romano, goat cheese, mozarella w roasted garlic olive oil base) was good but i wished their cheese quality was better. the ricotta was not as good as vito’s. the margherita(basil, tomato, mozarella w roasted garlic olive oil base) was not bad. it was bland maybe because they make it without marinara? the cheese pizza with sausage & fresh jalapenos was ok. nothing special. the hot wings($ 5.95 for 6) was not that great. tasted like burnt wings. i like how they have individual size pizza’s(roughly ~$ 8.95+) and are four slices.

Nicky D’s is good average pizza. My Pizza Margherita suffered from the problem that occurs at most pizzerias: where’s the tomato sauce and where’s the good mozzarella? That wasn’t enough to discourage me. The dough was delicious and it had an unexpected buttery taste that made me eager to have more. Instead of tomato sauce, very fresh tomatoes topped the pizza and this tied the flavors all together. It wasn’t a Margherita, but it worked. If Nicky D’s could make a real Margherita, I think they would do a good job of it. No offense, but I’ll wait until then for a return visit.
