Disappointed that I bussed across town to come try this place and they’re closed 12÷26−12÷29. Would have been great if it wasn’t listed as Open here on Unilocal.I will update this review when/if I get a chance to eat here.

Delicious food with genuine service in a greasy welcoming spot. Looks good on the outside. Street parking. They expect take-out, as there are only three tables – with three chairs! Great specials, but I was feeling pork chops, so ordered off the menu. I had the opportunity to see how welcoming they are to neighborhood regulars. Two orders came in and a gent who was sitting down, all got their food and left by the time I was served. Approximately 20 minutes later, I was served with down home charm. Pork chops and toast – but they have no jelly. Only one set of salt and pepper, but so greasy, I hated to hold them. Grits were SWIMMING in butter – and they gave me more. I had enough for leftovers. Good eating.

When I came I ordered the waffle and chicken special they have. I was very pleasantly surprised! The waffle was so soft and fluffy. I just wish they had more drink options, they only have hot coffee, water, and canned soda like Shasta kind. Also it can get pretty stuffy in there so they need to get an A.C. unit.

This is one great hidden treasure. The food was delicious and the portions were abundant. I will highly recommend this place to my family and friends.

Don’t get the coffee! Pretty sure it’s instant, was served in a Styrofoam to go food container. the paper dollie used on the plate. Yes plate, not saucer. that it was served on was obviously reused. Food is okay. Hash browns were well cooked, lightly seasoned, do not over salted. My daughter had the waffle. it wss really doughy. I’m pretty sure my toast was fried, it was yummy though. At the end of the day, seems like 2 older gentlemen trying to make it. Been sitting here. not eating for 10 minutes or more. the only patron in the place. Kitchen is only a few steps away. the 2 gentlemen that’s working here. one may be Mel is just chatting it up, oblivious that we’re ready. I’ll never be back. so sorry I drove from Gardena for this.

Very good breakfast spot in the north Inglewood area. It looks like a bit of a divey diner joint. Good prices and friendly service. Breakfast Special is a steal. around $ 5 for 2 hot cakes sausages and 2 eggs. I would like to come back and try the peach cobbler. I lived in this area, I think this would be my hangout.

Super friendly staff and a great deal on the Peach Cobbler meal. Got tipped from a past Unilocaler and am thankful i was! They had Wi-fi, CREAMSODA, and great home-style food. Only thing was it got kinda hot(but it is LA) & i could’ve done without the smooth jazz playing, haha.

Good, cheap soul food. I come here for breakfast on Sundays, to avoid the lines everywhere else. Mel is a nice older guy that’s always in the shop. Small menu but everything I’ve had is pretty good. As I said the good is good, not great but when your breakfast is cheaper than McDonald’s(under $ 5) it’s more than expected. Not much room to sit since there are only about 3 tables, but I live around the corner so just call my order in & pick it up.

Are you kidding me! The cobbler Unilocal deal is amazing! King size burger, homemade fries, soda, and delicious cobbler for desert. All this for $ 6.55. It doesn’t get better than that. Mel and his staff are also very friendly and go out of their way for the customers. I highly recommend Mel’s Bakery for lunch and dinner but remember they only open Thurs — Sunday.

Can’t wait to try this food! I will be doing a updated Unilocal review after I finish my food for now! But other than that nice people clean building! Lowkey spot you have to be a regular around here to know the use types of place exist! This is not a IHOP or Denny’s! This is a made to order food! Authentic cooking! And I wish more of these places exist

This spot is a perfect weekend treat. Only open Th-Sun. Delicious, cheap, Southern style cooking like it was picked up from a corner in the bayou and dropped is South Central. Anywhere you can get a cobbler included in a combo for under $ 7 is automatic 5 star in my book. And they deliver!

Another Unilocal gem! I’ve lived around the corner for about as long as they’ve been there and never knew about it. I’m a little upset, I feel cheated! The good was absolutely amazing! I had a porkchop, bacon and eggs, all of which were made fresh to order! And the most divine grits! It was a great dining experience, I will definitely be back! Oh and peach cobbler… just say yes!!!

A friend and I wanted to enjoy a good breakfast and after the reviews decided to give this establishment a try. I have to say that our spur of the moment decision was a good one. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and they have excellent specials for the week. I look forward to trying other items on the menu. Especially the hamburger special with peach cobbler :)

Finally stop by and decided to have breakfast here. The food was really good. Good breakfast portions(pancakes are big). The place is small but very clean and well kept. The chef is actually the owner, really nice guy too.

I’ve been driving past this place for years and finally decided to go in. I took my dad and daughter on a lark and we were not disappointed. Mel’s is a small, homey neighborhood spot that I can’t believe how long I have been missing out. Immediately upon entering, you are greeted by mouth watering smells– candied yams, baked chicken just fill the air. I had the fried chicken, Mac n cheese, and the best green beens ever!!! My dad and daughter had the baked chicken, candied yams, and collard greens. One of the best things about Mel’s is that even after you finished eating, the food wasn’t greasy and you didn’t feel heavy– no ITIS no ruin your day. I also got a piece of yellow cake with chocolate icing for the road and it tasted as good as I hoped it would be. My second favorite thing about Mel’s is that it has a screen door in the front and when it slammed shut, it reminded me of being on my grandmother’s back porch. Mel doesn’t know it, but his place is about to become my home away from home. Mel’s Bakery and Café is definitely a gem!

This place is soooo good! Came here on Thanksgiving for some soul food. The meat was tender and flavorful and the sides were real tasty too. Friendly staff, the place is clean, and great prices too! I’ll be back for sure…
