I think this place tasted better when it first opened. I came here a second time and my experience was just«whatever». TBH, I don’t think I’ve been to a restaurant in LA that serves really good curry. I only came recently because BF was craving curry.(if anyone knows a good place, let me know!!!) First off, I was never happy with their prices. Not because it’s not affordable, but do they really have to charge every.single.little. thing? Even the spice level? Quality is just so-so. Unfortunately, I can’t really rate the taste for what I got, which was just curry with beef and sausage because I went with level 7. Big mistake. I remembered when I first came here, I got either a level 6 or 7 but it did nothing for me. Level 7 was PRETTY spicy(and I love spicy food) and it actually hurt my throat a little. Stupid me just mixed the rice and sauce together before tasting how spicy the sauce was so I even had to order an extra bowl of rice so that I can even eat it. My crazy BF, however, got a level 10(again) and it didn’t phase him at all. Even added more hot pepper to make it spicier. Service was so-so. I think there was only 1 or 2 servers around and although there weren’t that many customers, I always had to look around for them. Maybe it’s because the restaurant’s pretty spacious, but I wasn’t too pleased of having to look for the server every single time I needed something. And by the way, I know they validate your parking ticket but is it good for 2 hrs or 1 ½ ?? On their door it said 2 hrs, but on the receipt it says 1 ½… I wanted to ask before I left, but again, server wasn’t around to be found.

Went here on a whim and so regret it. In short, Apathetic, untrained servers, flat so so curry and somber empty ambience. It’s a build your own curry concept with toppings from traditional chicken cutlet to kimchi. It’s about variety not quality. Basically it is plated fast food. Service was one of the worst I’ve encountered: I asked for medium to mild which the server replied that would be the #5 or # 4 spice level. It was so spicy I could not eat it. I was then informed by another waiter that #4 and 5 is jalapeño spicy level. Their remedy to this mistake was to just add more sauce onto my dish. I was looking at salty curry soup. Could not eat it. I thought they would at least fill my water cup but ignored even that and left me burning up. No comp and a dismissive«we gave you more sauce» is all I got for this painful experience. No wonder there was only one other patron at prime lunch hour. I noticed she hadn’t eaten most of her dish either. I should have known better from the barrenness of this place…

I always order their thin sliced beef curry which is really good but I always have to order extra beef since their serving is kindof little for the price. Will always come back!

Worst curry and worst service ever They diluted curry source and told us it’s normal We told them it doesn’t have taste and server scuffed And we asked additional napkins and server said oh I’m on my break(wt…) Never come back. It looked dead inside anyways so this place won’t last.

I highly recommend upgrading the size of the rice portion with your curry because you will get a bigger plate with more curry. I’m 6’4, and I need my big portions. Also, if you’ve never tried cheese in your curry, you absolutely should dare to try it out. Don’t forget to try the little pickled radish condiment they have on every table! I love that stuff, and I love bringing friends here.

They don’t pick up the phone and when they do… Our order is wrong! We were charged for extra rice that they didn’t provide. No utensils and no accountability. I truly can’t give a great review when this isn’t the first time that it has happened to us.

My preferred curry place in the area, partially because it’s a bit closer than Sawtelle, and partially because I actually do just like their curry best. Usually, I get the curry udon with Chinese dumplings or fried squid — I could drink like 3 bowls of the curry, it’s so delicious. Their chicken and pork cutlet curries are also nice, if you’re just looking for something basic! Tip: they have fun drinks! The Thai Tea Float is pretty great, and if you order the jumbo thai tea, it’s actually as tall as my face, which is ridiculous.

I like the food. its just the terrible service. Every time i go there, theres NO workers on the floor, and everybody is in the kitchen which is fine IF they acknowledge the customers and welcome them properly. NO, they never welcome their customers. I dont know about busy time, because I’ve never seen them busy. But if you go there when they are slow, they are all in the kitchen, and try not to acknowledge you, and maybe they do acknowledge you, but IGNORE you. Last time i went, of course the complete ignorance as usual even after 1 guy actually acknowledged my existence, and everybody(im talking about like 5workers) is doing what they are doing in the back. I seated myself… still nothing… Clearly they are trying to make me leave, so that they don’t have to help me(less work, yay!). Then the only customers(a couple next to me) used the call button… I heard a good loud enough ring from the kitchen I was like«oh, yeah!». I thought someone would come out to help the couple then I could order too. NOTHING…for a good minute 2nd call button… Nothing for another minute So that point i used my button too, but mine didn’t even work! OK, never mind. And the 3rd call button… Now i started laughing and asked the couple how long its been like this. They seemed very upset and said«the whole time» Finally someone came out of the kitchen after 3 call buttons. That had to be more than 4 – 5 minutes after I entered the restaurant. None of those workers came out or even paid attention for good 5mins or so. This is it. I’m done with this restaurant. They have absolutely ZERO motivation to work. Nobody welcomes or wants to help their customers. Aside from the mis-orders they make very often as many Unilocalers are complaining(I experienced at least several times but I can try to understand this one cos it happens), this terrible work ethic among all the workers there is just unacceptable. Clearly this is the store manager’s fault. Because if he was doing the right thing, the workers shouldn’t be this bad whether or not the manager was there. Whoever the CEO of the American branches, please check yourself how your workers work when slow(because like i said i don’t know how they work when busy). Because I don’t think you can expand the business here offering this kind of service. EPIC fail.

I was visiting my friend for a weekend and we came here for a Sunday night dinner. Absolutely loved this place. I’m a huge fan of Japanese curry and this hit the spot. I ordered the pork cutlet curry with a spice level of 4. So so good. The ratio of pork cutlet, rice and curry was absolutely perfect. I finished everything at the same time and was the right amount of full. The thai tea with ice cream probably helped with that but I’m definitely coming here every time I visit my friend in the future.

I ordered to go their beef katsu with brown rice $ 10. The food was good but kind of plain in terms of comparing to the other curry house in the area. Also noted that they do not have omelette as an option for to go. A little disappointing. Their portions are big which is typical. Parking — they have a lot for all the places in that area. Plus it’s free.

James and I have been wanting to try the curry here since we watched Simon and Martina from eat your kimchi’s video. Only thing is they went to the store in Japan and we are here in California. Now we all love the curry here! My friend who was doubting this place actually wanted to come back again. The server were nice. The food came out really quick and hot. The curry fries is a must try! I ordered the squid curry rice. The squid was good. We also ordered the pork and chicken curry dish. I liked the pork better cause it’s more tender.

Similar to Curry House, CoCo Ichibanya got a wide range of Japanese curry dishes. However, CoCo Ichibanya also gives you the choice of customizing your own curry dish, with your own toppings, type of rice, and spiciness level, which I quite liked. I wanted to try something new, so I got the Curry Keema, which is more like. Indian chili? There’s ground beef chunks in it, and it was pretty good, although I think I prefer the Japanese curry more. There’s not too much seating, and you have to pay at the counter when you’re done. The end!

The service here was friendly but they were not very attentive with our water. The quality of the food here makes it feel more like a fast food place than a restaurant. For example, the first bite into my pork cutlet was hard and rubbery and some of the udon noodles i had were hard. I also didn’t enjoy how heavily salted the curry sauce was. In terms of Japanese curry, I liked it much better at Curry House. Free parking in the structure next door.

When I ordered my to-go order, I’m pretty sure the guy was high. I asked him what kind of dressing comes on the salad to which he replied, after 30 – 40 seconds of staring down at his screen, «What kind of dressing comes in the curry udon?». No dude, dressing on the salad! After a challenging and long time to get him to put in my order, he handed me the receipt for me to pay. I decided not to leave a tip since I already didn’t care for his service and the fact that I wasn’t eating in. He pointed out that I didn’t tip and questioned how much I wanted to be charged on my card. 15 minutes later I went in to pick up my food and they couldn’t find my order. Two different servers started looking at the computer screen as they physically held an order they thought MIGHT be mine. Eventually I just suggested they open the order to find out if its right or not. They seemed so lost and confused! My food was cold and soggy.

I had the chicken cutlet with omelette rice, with mild spiced curry. It was pretty standard: not bad, but not amazing either. For the price(something above $ 10), I don’t think it’s worthy of a «deluxe» menu item. The cutlet and omlette rice were pretty bland which really makes you rely on the curry sauce for flavor. Not that this dependency is necessarily a bad thing, but I think a chicken cutlet should be as well seasoned as the curry. The omelette rice was essentially a bland egg blanket over a little pile of rice. The curry itself was decent. This place seems to focus on having a bunch of variety with lots of meat choices(pork, chicken, beef, seafood, and tofu) and spice levels(up to 7 – 10?). To me, this abundance seemed excessive and a bit random. For instance one of the menu items I found ‘unique’ was Chinese dumplings with curry and rice… I personally don’t see the point of having spice levels to the point where the food becomes enjoyable. Case in point my brother got the beef curry with spice level 7, and while he finished it, he later admitted that it was worth the pain and sweat endured. Besides, paying an extra .25 to .50 to .75 cents with each level is just a… ripoff. TL;DR: This place is meh, and doesn’t live up to the hype. If you like novelty curry houses with crazy spice levels and excessive, random choices, then go for it. But if you want the real deal, you’re better off at the original Curry House.

Was craving curry so came here. First time at a Coco Ichibanya and didn’t have high expectations but the curry was delicious! They have TONS of options from the menu items(curries, salads, udon, pasta, etc) to the levels of spiciness to the toppings(boiled egg, corn, cheese, etc) to the types of protein(stewed chicken, beef, pork, katsu, fried shrimp, etc). Had the stewed chicken and vegetables curry and it was super flavorful and delicious and the perfect amount of thickness(hate it when curry is way too watery). Service here sucks though. Everyone was friendly enough but it was so difficult getting seated, ordering, paying the check, etc which is funny since they have those bells that you can press by the table to get their attention but they clearly don’t work. Also, I love spicy and I don’t understand why each level of spiciness is an extra charge –____–

Love this place. First time I had it was in Okinawa Japan. So I’m thrilled to have one in the U.S. of A. So this is pretty much what I love about this place. You can actually choose the spiciness level of 1 – 10. 6 is not recommended unless you’ve had 5.(At least that was the warning in Japan’s location) I had level 10 lightly crispy chicken curry with 400g of rice which is 100g more than the regular($ 1 extra) I’ve had the level 10 several times in Japan and I remember the level 10 being much spicier there than it was here. Like i remember it being almost torture eating it. I would have tears running down my face the entire time, followed by a sick ass stomach pain lol. But I guess people here are just weak sauce and can’t handle the heat! I really loved the service here. Muchhhh better service than the one in Torrence. Hate to throw them under the bus like that but these girls deserve a lot of credit. Food was excellent. The Naan bread with garlic and cheese is a must! Make level 10 spicier and I will definitely change my rating to a 5! Be back soon: ]

Today, we came in around 1:30 and the place was relatively empty. I noticed a lunch special that included a free salad, so I ordered a curry chicken katsu and the wife had a shrimp curry. The flavors are ranked by spice level, with the regular comparing to a medium by my standards. It was spicy enough to know it was curry and not too bland, where I would need to add more heat. I quickly mixed my brown rice and curry and noted that they really cranked on the curry, as I still had a lot of liquid in the bowl. Compared to the Curry House chain, this restaurant is a tad lacking of taste and substance of the curry. The curry could be thicker, and they could be more generous with the meats. We did however have really quick service and were able to have lunch in less than an hour. The pluses for this restaurant are free parking, quick service, and load of curry sauce with the meal. Too bad they skimp on the protein, which is why they don’t rate as high as the original«Curry House».

The curry was fine, not particularly flavorful or interesting. A little too one-note. Service was friendly enough, but it was so slow, despite the fact that there were only 3 other tables occupied. Overall, it was okay, but definitely not memorable, and I’ve enjoyed the curries at Curry House and Hurry Curry of Tokyo better.

Would not recommend the Curry Udon. Definitely get the rice plates, more bang for your buck! Friendly servers, and though the place was empty, they weren’t heckling you every 5 minutes. The server however, had no answers to any of my questions. You can customize your own rice plates– add cheese, add cream, add egg! Each additional ingredient is an extra buck or more. Also, spice level costs extra too!
