Best dining hall at USC. Steamed veggies al dente, well cooked and flavorful meats, plentiful salad bar with arugula, baby spinach, and other varied greens. And the spicy tuna bowl is a favorite. Kudos to chef Nathan, general manager Carlos and all the wonderful staff for the consistently delicious campus dining experience!

This place used to be the best dining hall on campus, but they changed their menu this year and have nothing good anymore. Everything is small and vegetarian and no meat at all.

sometimes can be the best dining hall on campus with the crêpe station, hard ice cream, and banana chips

SOMANYCHOICES. Ahhhhhhhhhh. There’s juice from Jamba, coffee from Starbucks, a custom stir-fry, make-your-own salad, or you can get pizza, chips, gummy bears, yoghurt, chocolate milk, and some crazy combination of all the above. It’s pretty expensive, but it’s one of the best places for grub on campus. The best part? You get to eat while staring in the eyes of those working out across the way.

Just don’t enjoy it. The sushi is actually less fresh than that sold at trojan grounds or Seeds, despite being made in the same kitchen, and I don’t think the selection of foods is very good or very interesting. The seating area is like a cafeteria, but well-lit with nice albeit sticky tables. Alright for a quick break between classes. — 11/30/2011 update: Actually way better than I thought. I recommend the quesadillas and the smoothies. It’s all about careful selection — the pasta isn’t that good, and the stirfry is sometimes good, sometimes not. I do not recommend the baked goods.

Café 84 is meh. Everytime I go there as an upperclassman I’m reminded of why I stopped going now that I don’t have a meal plan/dining dollars. As with all other food on USC’s campus, it is overpriced. The options are pretty good and the food is decent, but it’s not really worth the money. Also, I can’t describe it, but I always get this vibe that they don’t like people who aren’t paying with their USCard. I always feel rushed to dig out cash or get impatient looks when I hand them my ID card but say that I’m paying with cash or credit. There’s one cashier there who never smiles, never says«hi» or anything. I’m also pretty sure she’s overcharged me at least twice. I always noticed too late because I felt rushed. And didn’t feel like going back to that unfriendly lady to say that. Plus, they don’t give out receipts, which is dumb. Anyway, I don’t plan on going back unless if I’m desperate or an underclassman is buying my meal.

Kings Hall computer lab isn’t one of the more popular labs on campus, but despite the comparatively small size it’s convenient to the dorms on that end of campus. So the majority of traffic to the café tends to be people nearby because of the gym, credit union, or school of dentistry. The outdoor seating makes for opportunistic voyeurism– I mean, a guilty reminder to work off the calories. Personally ambivalent about the dining options, but always grateful that the Jamba Juice is located outside of the turnstiles for a quick smoothie run as I please(who said there’s no advantage to your direct deposit not getting set up?).

Since smriti k.‘s review, there’s been some updates in Café 84. There is now a Daphne’s Greek Café franchise, a Baja Fresh franchise, an asian noodle bar, a sushi stop(not made fresh to order, but it’s still good and got a lot of variety), a Jamba Juice, and a pasta bar, as well as a Starbuck’s. I really like Baja Fresh and go there pretty much every week for the Chicken Caesar Salad burrito.(Sans dressing/cheese, guac instead.) So that’s the place you should go to get your fast food when you’re near the northwest side of campus. The lines for the popular places are very slow at lunchtime, so I usually go at 11:30 before the crowds hit. I think at least half the Norris dentistry students(if not more) swamp the place, not to mention all the athletes from the Lyon Center etc. Really accessible from the main music practice building, too, if you go out the far back door. I’ve got to say, though, with the exception of the Greek food, there’s nothing that you can’t get from the Ronald Tutor center, Trogro, or Literati, so those of you who don’t live in Webb or Flour, or who don’t ever go to that corner of campus, it’s not so exciting that I’d recommend making a trek over there.

This is one of my favorite spots at USC Are you a Health Freak? you have the yummy Jamba Juice, get all kinds of juices and jump start your day American food? yes you have The Grill which makes pizza and hamburgers and also rice plates of your choice. Asian food? Wok Crazy, and i am crazy about this place you can just make your own lunch/dinner made up of loads of veggies rice or noodles, and you could also choose tofu, chicken and pork and once you have selected, they cook it right in front of you. It is less greasy and absolutely healthy. Raw food? yes you have a salad bar which consists of veggies, sauces and different kinds of lean meats. Ok i am not leaving my Burrito people alone. They do have a Fish taco place and it’s always crowded: D that explains that one. It’s a great place to sit and eat. The ambience always reminds me of the scene in Jurassic Park 1 where the kids eat at the dining table. It does look somewhat like that . And there is also an outdoor place to sit, the best part is when you sit there and eat and watch other people lose pounds. Yeah! it faces the gym: D and i bet you are definitely cursed! How do i know that? I have been on the other side so many times that i decided not to work out downstairs anymore. A great spot and it’s not that costly because you they weigh your plate and then charge you. :D CAFE84 hope you were CAFEFOREVER;IF i went to school to USC forever! :D –Smriti
