I finally decided to review this place after several visits. First off, the ribs are decent, although a bit overpriced. However, cook your own steak, chicken, burger, or bratwurst is spot on. The salad bar and sides are a huge disappointment though. It’s always the same scallop potatoes and mixed veggies for sides that taste like they came from a box and can. The salad bar has no love whatsoever. The lettuce looks like two day old recycled lettuce and has some wilt to it. Cmon, this seriously gets served to men and woman in uniform? The bar service is ok. The tap beer is cold and there is a nice bottle selection. The guy bartender is good and tentative; however, the lady is always complaining in front of customers and a bit rude at times. She also has a tendency to help you, then help someone else at the same time and put you to the side. She did say she is leaving or moving back east. Hope the her replacement is a lot better and tentative. Lastly, a bar with no snacks like peanuts, chips, or popcorn. Cmon, you can do better than that. Overall, this place is ok, but can use some major improvements.

My wife and friends have been heading over her every Thursday night for their Taco spread. Tacos are big and their fixin’ station is second to none. To say this place is tucked away is an understatement. I think going through the gate and driving around the base is a cool distraction. The front gate is 5 minutes from my house, but you feel like you are a million miles away. Bar staff are friendly and laid back. I usually go directly to the bar to order beverages, since the staff consists of only 1 or 2 folks. TVs are good, although this place is really not a sports bar; much more of a peaceful retreat.

Love the atmosphere… issue is the bartenders. They have two bartenders depending on the night of the week. The guy bartender is awesome; great attitude with fantastic service. The woman bartender is horrible. Can’t get her attention(more focused on her cell phone than patrons…), can’t get food and drink orders straight and generally rude and grumpy. I would call first and see who’s working…

We all, 3 couples, enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and reasonable prices and watching some aircraft taking off and land. We will surely go there often and enjoy our great military base.

Fiddler’s is awesome. I eat here a few times a week. The chocolate chip cookies are some of the best I’ve ever had. There menu is a bit limited to baresque time foods but its all pretty good. The service is friendly and always very good.

While the ribs on Friday night are good I find them to be a bit overpriced for what you get.

The location is unique, an Army Reserve Base and Air Station. The people friendly. But having to cook your own food? Friday is Chef’s Night and apparently they don’t have a back up. We went out to eat to have someone cook for us, that is why they charge for the meal, right?

Definitely a place to try! My daughter practices at the pool on base. While waiting for her I looked up places to eat on Unilocal and this popped up. Walked over and WOW! Tacos are amazing! The bartender is super nice and the patrons are so friendly! I had an amazing experience! Must try the Sour Apple Martini! So good! Great place to relax and watch the game.

Love coming here. Casual atmosphere, good food & drinks are inexpensive. Met some great people. I’m now friends with a few here too. Cook your own steaks or burgers every night but Friday. A chef on Friday night. Ribs are fabulous. You can even sit outside in the patio. Great in the summer. Brought my nieces. One is an Army Reserve, the best place I ever brought her, according to her. Got to love a 20 year old.

Stop at the JFTB front gate. Present your picture ID to enter & ask the military guard in pixilated cammies for instructions to Fiddlers Green. The Pub at Fiddlers Green is a no frills military canteen with wide screen TV showing sports, posters thanking military personnels as well as posters exhorting patriotism: «I will never leave a fallen comrade… No matter what the situation. WARRIORETHOS». It serves, for lunch, salads, sandwiches, burgers, fish & chips. The food here is not particularly noteworthy and agreed upon by all my friends who also attended. I had the Southwest salad which is basically a chopped salad w/dry, bland chicken breast strips frijoles negros, canned corn kernals, thin fried tortilla strips, and it seemed to faintly echo the exemplary Southwest salad at the long gone Authentic Café on Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles back in the 1980’s when the Southwest/Cuisine Nouvelle Mexicaine was in full swing, initiated in Los Angeles by John Sedlar of another long gone restaurant, Saint Estephe. Chef Sedlar now runs Rivera in DTLA if there is an urge to sample la nueva cocina Latina. The FG Pub’s version of the Southwest Salad is acceptable & at $ 9 dollars, it was not particularly a good deal. At least for lunch, get into a queue and order. You are given a plastic number placard. Later when the food is ready, a server finds you by number. The older cashier/waitress was nice & friendly coming by a multiple times with a big pitcher of iced tea, ready to replenish every empty cup. BTW, there is a clear plastic covered tray next to the flatware/napkin station. There were fresh baked chocolate chip cookies that were excellent in being soft, chewy with huge slightly bitter chocolate chunks which were spot on in completing the end of the meal. To top it off, they were FREE! For me, going to the Pub was not for the excellence of the food, but more for the experience of being immersed in the only functioning military base in all of Los Angeles/Orange County. This military base is used by the various branches of the US Military & by local law enforcement for training exercises so during the lunch rush hour there were militarymen/women as well as Riverside County Sherrifs, State Correctional Officers at the time we were there. There is certainly an air of testosterone that is not present in other places to eat such as Patina, Urasawa, Bel Aire Hotel, etc. which made for a more«rough & ready» dining experience. For those who are interested in having a wedding banquet with chapel services, bar/bas mitzvah, quinceanera, anniversary parties, etc., there are banquet facilities & patio. The banquet areas as well as the reception foyer area are far more tastefully furnished than the Pub. Call(562) 795‑2169 for more info. There are even lodging possiblities. Inquire at(562) 795‑2124. This may be the safest place ever to dine or lodge since there are 800 permanent military personnel employed at this military oasis. The Pub at Fiddlers Green is great for people who like mainline, conventional, middle-of-the-road food. For others who are more into finer, more nuanced dining, go there for the rare privelege of taking in the atmosphere of a US military base. Although I may have found the officers’ mess at the naval base in Norfolk, Virginia to be of more interest, The Pub at Fiddlers Green is all that we have that is open on a regular basis in all of the greater Los Angeles area, and that in itself should make this a precious armed forces jewel. 3– Unilocal stars for the food, but an unquantifiable factor for the military ambiance. PS10mph on the base roads when there is a military exerise, and many soldiers & military vehicles are rushing about.

We have dinner here about once a month. On Friday nights there is a chief the other nights you grill your meat yourself. The drinks are a great price.

OK… after 4 years… I am going to finally write a review about this little gem. We think it is GREAT! We have good food, great drinks and get to see our troops come in and ship back out while awaiting deployment. We didn’t want to drop a dime on the place and show up to see the secrete is out of the bag. But then I thought… They deserve it and really… how many people actually follow what I write??? I mean really??? LOL! The food for the BBQ your own is great! I have NEVER been disappointed and we always enjoy ourselves. The flat Iron Steak is my favorite and I have seen it cost 3 times what it cost there at other places. Yes it is a military base, not a fine dining establishment and at times it can be busy or loud. That is why we go and we have fun! The base Chef’s really put out some special food so on the self BBQ days your on your own… but the days you get to order… good stuff. Try the seafood plate… yum! The drinks… good solid pours and reasonable cost. Just don’t get hammered there and drive! You have to pass in and out of security… not so much when you leave… but if your buzzed… sit it off and have another burger. Don’t ruin your day or make someone work harder than they should! When we can we always but a meal or a drink for someone passing through. It doesn’t cost much and some of these guys are living on not a lot after sending cash home to their families. Thanks to all working there and those passing through! You guys all rock!

Great food, very reasonable drink prices. They do lunch from 11 am to 2pm M-F And grill it yourself from 4−9pm at night M-Sat. You don’t have to be in the military, show ID at the gate and tell them where you are going to the fiddlers green. No cell phones while driving on base and 25 mph while on main streets of the base.

This is my favorite hangout bar in the area… cheapest drinks around, and good food, which you grill yourself(steaks, ribs, chicken burgers, etc.) You can eat well for cheap too! Very interesting atmosphere, a casual mix of some locals and whatever military guys are on base at the moment. I’ve had some very interesting conversations at the bar, everybody is really cool here. Bartenders Spencer, Vicki, and Johnny will take good care of you! Although it is on the Los Al Joint Forces Training base(military), you can get on with your drivers license. Make your first left on you’re thru the gate and follow that around towards the airport, and the pub is right next to the big Cobra helicopter on display. Sit outside and watch your country’s finest military aircraft in action!

So my friend and I planned to meet up one last time before he heads off to grad school. The place I chose was closing in ten minutes so we decided to go somewhere else. I Unilocal nearby restaurants, and Fiddler’s Green pops up as one of the top places with high ratings! So we decided to come here. Little did we know that it was located at a training base. We were so confused, yet so intrigued. My friend, who was in the car ahead of mine(I was following him), told the man at the entrance that we were looking for Fiddler’s Green. He let him through. I told the man that I was with that guy(pointed to the car in front) and he kindly let me through. We somehow found our way to Fiddler’s Green after driving around in confusion for a while. Apparently my friend smiled and nodded as if he understood everything the man at the gate was telling him(.the directeions!) when in reality, he was busy admiring the tank(s) and other cool things surrounding us. Luckily, we found our way to the actual restaurant and ordered two steaks. My steak was delicious, but I destroyed my friend’s NY steak by putting too much salt on it. I felt so bad… The salad bar(all you can eat) came with our order of steaks so I ate a buttload of salad and cheesy, scallop potatoes on top of the steak. It was delicious! The workers there were very friendly too. Overall: very interesting experience. If you’re looking for adventure + food, definitely give this place a shot. You get to see planes and missiles and other cool things before your meal. How cool is that! OH! and with a Unilocal check-in, you get $ 10 off any food item! ( )

Money goes to the base. Booze and food go to the liver/belly. Enjoy eating at the end of the runway.

What an awesome little pub! This spot is on the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Al and the base is open to the public, so if you’ve never ventured on base, it’s worth a shot. At the gate, they do check ID, but a regular drivers license or state ID will work. The food! For dinner, they do a grill-your-own whatever and they provide the sides. The flat iron steaks are amazing. Tasty and tender, and I’m talking tender like you can cut them with a plastic knife with ease. Grill them yourself on one of their 3 built in gas bbq’s, season with bbq sauce or teriyaki sauce, season salt, or regular salt & pepper. Step inside the bar and choose from a small but tasty selection of sides. Usually a veggie, some kind of potato, salad fixins, and rolls. They also have chicken, burgers, hot dogs, and usually bratwursts if you’re not feeling a steak, but even the steak is like $ 7 so it’s a good price. There is a full bar and the service is friendly and prompt. If the weather is right, eat on the patio. It overlooks the air field and when they’re training, you can see chinook and blackhawk helicopters land and take off. They also do lunch, but I believe it’s more of a cook to order type deal rather than the grill your own which I really enjoy.
