enjoyed the ribs, chicken skewers, and miso soup. Sushi was not rolled well and kinda fell apart. also ended up not agreeing with our stomachs. the kids stuck more to the hot foods and didn’t get sick so i blame the sushi I think we will stick with our sushi favorites on the north side of town.

Wow, and close to home! Decided to give this place a whirl, and glad I did. The sushi is awesome and the ambiance is great. This place has only been open for about a year and it’s kind of hard to find if you don’t know your way around. It’s in the Prospect neighborhood… or is that a teeny tiny town??? If you like sushi and don’t want to go far, this place is for you!

We went to this sushi restaurant the night of the Dome fire in Boulder. We got out of town to escape the smoke. It was clear that many other people had done the same thing. The restaurant was packed and it took us 45 minutes to get a table. The hostess was rude. We ordered drinks and they were acceptable and original. The rolls were also acceptable, and our favorite thing was the«crunch» you could add to any roll. It was overpriced for the food quality. We did really like the shrimp tempura roll… with CRUNCH of course. Oh — haha Almost forgot to add that the waiter hit on me, several times. The funny part was I was sitting next to my boyfriend and he even put his arm around me to see if the waiter would stop. He didn’t. It only led to him looking at my chest for several seconds, at first I thought he was looking at my food in front of me, like something was wrong with it… and when I asked him«What, what’s wrong?» his response«Oh, that’s just a beautiful necklace you’re wearing»…(it was really quite simple and commonplace). Stop staring at my boob’s creepy waiter! Ugh, and then when he checked ID’s so we could get liquor, he stared at our cards way too long, and asked us girls weird personal questions about our names, birthdates, and ID photos. I felt uncomfortable — to say the least… thankfully my boyfriend is laid back and does not have a temper. I’m pretty sure he deserved an ass kicking.

Sushi Jianken has a great vibe all around — great décor, great bar, great sushi. It’s always fresh and I’m never disappointed. The staff is really friendly and seem to really have fun, which makes dining there an overall fun experience.

I’ve been to this Prospect neighborhood gem more than a few times and have always had a great experience. Great ambiance, incredibly fresh food, friendly service, and sake right up there with the best in Boulder County. My favs for rolls at a place are the spicy tuna, spider and caterpillar rolls. If you go for sushi you may have noticed that everyplace is different, except the good places and this is one of them. They are awesome– you know sometimes that craving you get– Jianken will help you out with that! Above all else everything must be fresh and plentiful. I like big pieces of sushi. And some miss the mark and often times even look like they don’t want to give up their fish. Paying for what you get is also one of the ways I come to like a sushi joint and again they satisfy. I’ll go back there again and again. Check it out!

Outstanding sushi, among the best we’ve eaten! In Colorado we also like Sushi Den and Sushi Hapa — Jianken is just as good for taste and freshness, but is way more fun and intimate. It’s a pretty small restaurant, seating maybe 50 people, tops — on any given night there are probably 25 people there, and half of them regulars. They have some really unusual taste combinations — so take your time with the menu and ask your server. Derek introduced us to the delights of Yellowtail Collar(a cut of the fish right behind the gills), grilled lightly… now a staple dish for our family! Cocktails are great, too, if you’re so inclined. Definitely worth a drive from Boulder/Denver/Fort Collins — especially in the summer, when you’ll want to walk around after your meal and enjoy the totally unique architecture of the neighborhood.

Hidden safely within the bowels of the faux nouveau riche denizen of Prospect(a subset of Longmont,) is arguably the best sushi restaurant in the Denver area. I may not remember names, cell phone numbers or even the color of the underwear I wore two days ago, but I don’t forget a good sushi experience. I try to eat here as often as I can without having the employees thinking the place is under government surveillance or I need to be reported to sushi anonymous. It is all about the quality! The service is friendly and familiar(there are no strangers here) the sushi is expertly prepared and always fresh, new and experimental is always on the menu and the tasty portions are a culinary delicacy. If you are a neophyte to the delectable ways of sushi, Nick and Tigga the owners, are the right people to take you from apprentice to journeymen. This is not your neighborhood sushi place but a sushi bistro that delivers the service and quality you would expect in New York or San Francisco. Check it out while you can still get a seat.

I’ve had dinner here once few weeks ago, so I’ll be back to update, but this place was quite good. Hapa-quality or maybe even better; their menu has some different and unique items and interesting specials. That makes sense, as I believe the sushi bar/kitchen is run by a former Hapa staffer. Dined at the sushi bar(it’s a nicer one) and enjoyed a variety of mostly sushi of solid 4-star quality and presentation: wild salmon sashimi scallops sushi hamachi maki unagi nigri decent miso seaweed salad(too much/strong dressing) hamachi collar yuzu panna cotta(not authentic consistency, but a tasty custard nonetheless) Service was very pleasant and accomodating, we had a longmont-hipster server, if you can believe THAT! The room is very modern, hip and attractive, in keeping with the new urbanism location. Overall pleasant experience, considering this was a detour and our first Longmont Prospect New Town dining experience(our original choice was closed for Memorial wkend). It works for a more relaxed meal than in downtown Boulder with none of the parking hassle; however you ARE in Longmont, so there’s not really anything to do after eating. But if they keep up the quality and word keeps spreading, maybe it’ll end up a rockin’ scene like the Pearl St. Hapa. Well, to think I ended up there remembering a Daily Camera review, since IMHO they generally havent been on point regarding asian food.
