This hole in the wall is EXPENSIVE! $ 18 for a magnum of yellowtail? You can get that in Manhattan for $ 15 max, $ 12 in Downtown Brooklyn. Also their selection is exceedingly lame. Plenty of other options in the area. Go elsewhere.

MAJORNEWSUPDATE! As of the week of June 15, 2015 Vernon Wine & Liquor is under new management. As soon as I walked in on June 16 I noticed that something was different. I was right! Some of the shelves actually had merchandise for sale! Then I overheard the cashier with the pink hair telling another customer that the shop was under new management /ownership. I had heard rumblings around the neighborhood that something was amiss with the old management so this shouldn’t really be a surprise but still, I was surprised. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Vernon Wine & Liquor actually turned into a respectable store? **Stay Tuned For Updates**

What can I say about Vernon Wine & Liqour! First off for the people complaining about prices, have you been to other wine/liqour stores in LIC? The prices are perfect and I feel like if you don’t know what you’re in the mood for the owners/staff will help you decide… I usually buy a few bottles at a time and it’s always on point! Plus they are open late and right off the 7 train, literally a few paces away from the entrance of the train station steps. Go there, you won’t be sorry!

This place does it’s job. Place is small but people inside are always so friendly. They aim to please and always help you find the right bottle of wine, liquor, or champagne. They work with your budget and never try to oversell their inventory. Real cool people.

Hit or miss with the staff. Some guys are truly amazing and have great recommendations for wine. One dude doesn’t have a clue and so I go with what I know. Its just outside of the 7 train station and on the way home. For this reason, its the place that I get wine. And the hours are not till 11PM during the weekdays. Call before you leave the house to make sure they are open. The store serves its purpose, nothing special, nothing terrible. Its not a chic looking place but the wines are just fine. I get what you need and go home.

Came here last Saturday with one of my best friends(Ingrid S), my boyfriend’s best friend and of course the boy to pick up some wine to bring over to a friends house for impromptu drunken house hangs… this is what one does after an «all you can drink» mimosa brunch… at least it’s what we did. Oof. The wine selection here is pretty interesting and eclectic, although what they decided to chill was disappointing. Like most wine stores, Vernon chose to organize wines by country of origin and type(red, white, blush — etc.) and thus yummy wines, of various price points, were pretty easy to find. Liquor wise they leave a lot to be desired, especially their vodka choices — as denoted by Ingrid S. when she decided to very loudly vocalize that in the store causing lots of people to forcefully be educated on the vodka state of affairs here. My boyfriend found her shouting hilarious, upon further inspection of their shelf, I found it downright accurate. Ingy went with a delish Vino Verde and I ended up with an okay Chardonnay… not my favorite but it served its purpose. I believe my boy got a Pinot Noir and his bestie got a six pack of craft beer at the deli next door. I may be back if I’m in the neighborhood, bit I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here when there are definitely better wine stores in Astoria, Jackson Heights and of course my darling, Manhattan.

Coming in here after an unlimited drink brunch was probably a mistake. Namely, because I screamed«THEIRVODKASELECTIONHERESUCKS!» And caused about five heads to turn. Which, it totally did kind of suck. They had Absolute and Smirnoff. No Skyy. Maybe 2 or 3 different flavors, one of them being citrus and the other raspberry I believe. I wasn’t satisfied and moved on to perusing wines. And I’m pretty sure I was pretty obnoxious in finding a decent bottle of wine. But I asked for a Vino Verde first and found a cheap delicious bottle immediately upon courtesy of the wonderful staff. My friend however was indecisive and asked the price of almost everything in the cooler until she finally decided on getting a gallon of shelved Chardonnay. What were we thinking? But the wine selection here is pretty great and decently priced. I have no qualms.

I have been a loyal customer for years and years. Then the owners sold the store to their daughter. She then proceeded to sell wines at prices that were more expensive than manhattan. And several dollars more. It just upsets me that they are taking advantage of this. And now after shopping here for over 8 years, I go out of my way to not buy from here because I don’t like being taken advantage. :(

I only stopped in this wine store once. I walked out with nothing. I was surprised, I thought it would be a great place to by wine, right by the train station, small, it looked like it might have some cheap options. Especially because I was trying to buy a cheap white so that I could make pasta carbonara. Boy was I wrong, everything was absurdly expensive! Like a yellowtail for$ 10, who does that? yellowtail at most should be like $ 8. Needless to say I was not impressed by this place and will not be returning anytime soon.

Right in front of the 7 train, this is by far the easiest place to get what you’re looking for, either on the way home or when going to a dinner party. The staff is friendly, and they really try to help with recommendations to pair food and wine, etc. Consistently reliable shop in the neighborhood!

I’ve been going to this Liquor store for years. Make sure you call before you go because sometimes they close a little earlier then expected. The great thing about them is that they are right next to the train station. If you’re in a rush you can dip in and dip out and not miss your train. Prices are reasonable for the area especially since this neighborhood has a lot more people in it then it used to. I did notice that they have more of a wine selection then they used too.

WHAT A RIPOFF! A bottle of Gold here is about $ 95 which is about $ 20 more than my usual liquor store.(NEw golden Wine and Liquor in Bayside) Yes, I was desperate so I asked my friend to go get a bottle at the corner liquor store, he came back and as soon as I took at the price I almost karate kicked him. All their wines cost a few bucks more as well so it all adds up! I restock almost weekly(in bayside) but this week I got lazy, such an expensive lesson… For lushes like me it doesn’t pay to go to this store… pASS PASSPASS! . *they have a terrible selection of wine and there is a werid stale smell in there.

Definitely the go to place in LIC if you need some standard liquor. It’s downright cheap compared to some of the other stores in the neighborhood, and you can’t really mess up a bottle of vodka… …but on that note, buying wine from here is a complete crap shoot. Sometimes you might get a good bottle, sometimes you might get vinegar. The selection obviously also doesn’t compete with Blue Streak or Hunters Point. It’s definitely not your one stop shop for alcohol.

Very good selection and reasonably priced, even by New York Standards. Unlike other neighborhood stores, they don’t try to jack up the prices like Manhattan just because of their proximity and I think that, coupled with their knowledgeable and friendly staff is a home-run. You’d think it’d be hard to screw something that simple up, but others definitely do. Best in the neighborhood by far. I have a different store right across the street from me and I must say, that I’m very happy going much further out of my way to go here and avoid the other place. Keep up the good work.

A lot of the wines we have bought here are off. Taste bad. We’ve noticed this more with corked wines with screwcaps being better. They do have a good collection and the staff are friendly. They benefit from a good location. For better quality wines, I’d recommend blue streak around the corner at 48th Ave & the river or Hunter Point wine down the street on Vernon.

I am always in searching of a good liquor store near my apt. This liquor store stands out not only because the price is good, but the collection is also nice. The cashiers are friendly. If you like to make some cocktails or looking for some general stock of liquors. This is the best place in LIC.(Price+Collection) If you are looking for some asian fusion liquor like sake or plum wine, they do have it in stock. If you are looking for some super expensive wine, this is not the place for you.
