Always pass by this place and finally came in to try it out. The waitresses was great, always making sure we were okay and super friendly. The food was really great! Definitely coming back soon !

This was a regular haunt when my boyfriend(now husband) lived in Belmont Shore. Whenever we get a chance to go down to 2nd Street, this is one of few places we still love to visit. Food is consistently great and the staff wonderful. My favs are machaca con huevos and chorizo con huevos… yummy!

Thank you so much for the outstanding service and food that you provided for our party last weekend. I can’t say enough about how great my entire experience was. The food was amazing — I was not expecting tender, moist, juicy, rich pork carnitas with plenty of well-browned crisp edges. The chicken was great too — spicy, smoky, moist, juicy and seasoned perfectly. This is professional catering/high end restaurant quality food, not just a taco guy set up. We received numerous compliments from everyone on how delicious and outstanding everything was. We chose a soft taco bar, 4 kinds of salsas, guacamole, plus all the fixings, quesadillas, taquitos and enchiladas, beans, rice and chips and it was a perfect combination of down-home comfort food. Everything was super fresh and hot. The veggies must have been chopped that morning! I loved working with Sayuri who planned our menu. Her confidence and experience eased any fears I was having and I am so thankful that she took the lead and chose everything. Chad arrived on time and set up the piping hot food, laid out the serving utensils, plates, forks, napkins and even had labels for everything including corn and flour tortillas. The napkins were large restaurant quality and super nice which I really appreciated. We are new to the area and we are thrilled that we have found a partner to trust our parties to. It was a relief to have someone work out all of the details of our catering. I am excited to use Super Mex again to feed a huge group with high quality, affordable food. Thank you so much!

This is my favorite Mexican food place in long beach. Over the years they have provided me with consistently great food and service. Try the shredded beef tacos!

Best fish taco ever! I’ve had the carnitas burrito and it was also excellent. If you like good Mexican food(and who doesn’t?) don’t hesitate. I also like sitting at the outside patio. And there is a parking lot in back… which is nice.

I was not impressed, quite frankly. The food was adequate but I’ve had better. Starting with the complimentary chips and salsa, the chips were whole fried tortillas, which is not bad in itself. However, mine were greasy and the salsa had zero kick to it and the flavor did not make up for it. I ordered the tostada on a flat corn tortilla as opposed to choosing the flour tortilla bowl. The lettuce did not taste fresh, the beans were bland, the amount of guacamole was chintzy and the chicken was edible. Nothing special. The venue was dark and a little depressing. I won’t be back given that there are so many other Mexican restaurants serving tasty and fresh food. Belmont Shore is ripe for competition.

Had a chicken enchilada combo plate, was as good as the Mexican restaurants I frequent in the South Bay. The salsa was great. The parking in back is convenient, and the meter was cheap. I’ll go back for sure.

Although there was construction going on, this by far is my favorite Mexican food restaurant. The super mex burrito I had was shredded beef with rice, beans, red chile sauce and sour cream. The beef was tender and flavorful like always. Excellent staff and customer service.

We went here for dinner last night and it was great! We stayed at a nearby hotel and walked there for some food and margaritas in the bar area. The service was quick and our waiter was funny. I ordered the beef enchilada and taco combo while my boyfriend got the mixed fajitas plate. Both of us left Super Mex waaaay too full and really pleased with the food.

Worst service I have ever received. I will never eat at any of their locations again! I called in an order & when I went to pick it up they said I never called. I showed my phone to show I had called and asked how long it would be for the order & girl got an attitude & said I had to wait however long it would take. I asked for a manager & she said there wasn’t one. I’m sure she was lying so I told her to f*** off and left. How dare she get an attitude for their mistake. They have lost a customer for life.

We were in Long Beach for the National Youth Convention and decided to come here because our friends had said it was good. I have been to many Mexican restaurants and«good» usually means maybe a little better than average or kinda tasty. This place isn’t just good. Its Awesome! The service was great, our waiter kept checking up on us and was very friendly. Everything was reasonably priced, and I got a free refill for my horchata which was refreshing. The portions were also pretty big and my cheese enchiladas were super cheesy(: Overall, A++.

Great neighborhood mexican restaurant, mostly locals hang out. Have come here for 25 yrs and some of the same waiters are still here. Try the fresh chunky homemade quacamole and chips, and anything on the menu is awesome. Try the cocido? beef soup! I really like the light menu with light cheese, verde rice and whole beans(no fried). My 17 yr old son likes the carne asada burrito and carnitas burrito. Authentic mexican atmosphere, tables in back 2 areas outside are my fav. Flan is homemade.

Let me start by saying I go to this location 1 – 2 times per week. I’ve been going to Super Mex’s since I was a child, and I’ve got to say, having been to almost every location, this one is my favorite. If you go to Super Mex often, you’ll notice that the salsas are all slightly different along with the red sauce, due to different suppliers of tomatoes and other produce. This one has the tastiest salsa, although I’ve never had bad salsa at any Super Mex. Seating Options: This Super Mex has a wide variety of seating options, you can sit indoors with the a/c, the courtyard patio with heating lamps, the open room which gives you the best of both worlds, being inside and out, or the back patio which is usually used for special events. Service: All the servers here I’ve had are friendly and knowledgable, and almost never forget anything. The food comes out very quickly most of the time, so you’re never stuck waiting too long. My Favorites: The free unlimited chips and salsa they bring you are literally the best, they’re honestly addictive. The cheese they use here is amazing, although I normally don’t eat such simple food, I’ve got to say the cheese enchiladas here are delicious, I highly recommend them with beans and rice. Also the cheese quesadilla with jalapeños is incredibly authentic tasting, puts other quesadillas to shame. Just don’t get the shredded chicken, honestly that’s the one thing from here that I know several people who aren’t that crazy about it. My advice for chips and salsa: Break up the chips on your napkin with your open palm, squeeze lemons over the chips, then season with salt and pepper, and dip generously. One more thing, keep in mind all the items on the menu can be ordered a la carte, although they’re not listed as such, and they’re mostly very inexpensive. I love Mexican food and have been to many Mexican restaurants in SoCal, but haven’t been to another one that compares to Super Mex. The price is very good and the food is underpriced.

Super Mex is a staple for me. The food is always good, and well priced. Not all Mexican food is created equally and it’s no wonder Super Mex has been around as long as it has.

This place looks ghetto. The tables inside look busted and old. They have a hole in the wall next to one of the windows out front and they put duct tape on it. Seriously? Duct tape? And its been there for over 6 months! You cant just spackle it and paint over it? Instead you use duct tape? I wonder if the owner knows? If they duct tape the window near the entrance it makes me wonder how well they take care of the kitchen. Gross. Do yourself a favor and go to the Super Mex in downtown Long Beach. Way cleaner, full bar, and the food is awesome.

My favorite restaurant in the world. I’ve been coming here since I was zero years old, and I have strayed a few times but I have been coming here for my birthday almost every year. The food is very reasonably priced, and SO filling and delicious, and I’ve tried just about everything on the menu. My go-to is the Junior Mex shredded beef. Huge and dank. The servers are amazing, many of them have been there since I was a baby. They added hostesses a few years ago, I’m not sure why but they’re usually pretty quiet and unfriendly. I don’t mind though, because the rest of my experience is top notch. The atmosphere is so fun and welcoming(I always eat on the inside patio). Casual, loud, festive, and friendly. Decorations are on point. Soccer games always on TV. Mariachi music always playing and if it’s not, I will ask them to change it back. Mushy, but I have had so many memories, birthday dinners, team dinners, reunions, and post-beach day face-stuffings here. Support my amigos and, if you are looking for a place to eat on Second Street, go here! Get the guacamole and ask to eat on the patio, it’s 5x better. Best restaurant ever.

Though I love(the very different) Taco Surf and(the very similar) El Burrito Jr, Super Mex is my favorite chain of cheap, casual Mexican restaurants. Love the tacos, burritos, chips and salsa and the Diet Coke refills. The Cypress location has a one-dimensional ambiance with red-padded chair, tile floor, and bright lights. The Belmont Shore and Downtown LBC restaurants are similar, but the Belmont Shore adds a covered patio attic kinda thing, and I prefer the o.g. downtown LBC location because it has a nice bar alternative. The Irvine location is the most like a restaurant, and has frozen margaritas by the pitcher.

Location — This Super Mex is located in Belmont Shore BUT it has its own parking lot! Well to be more specific, I think that it shares parking but its a lot nonetheless! On a Tuesday night we had no problem finding a spot and there were spots when we left. Parking was still difficult out on the street however as is typical in this are no matter what day it is. On a weekend, I would expect that the lot is full all the time and parking may not be so easy. Service — We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was extremely prompt and brought us drinks right away. When we ran out of chips she refilled it without us having to ask — same with my drink. Our food came out correctly and fairly quickly. We did use the Unilocal $ 5 off $ 25 for our bill too and she didn’t even blink an eye at redoing our bill to include that offer even though we were only slightly over the $ 25. I appreciated that. Food — I had the combo #1(see pics) which was a hard shell taco and a cheese enchilada. The only minor complaint I had about the combo was that it didn’t automatically include rice(I think it was $.50 more?). That’s usually a given with combo plates. Other than that though I enjoyed all the food that I had. The enchilada sauce had good flavor and the beans were the perfect consistency for me. I really liked that you could tell that the hard shell for the taco was made on the premises and not the gross store bought kind. My husband had a carne aside burrito and he thoroughly enjoyed it — it was quite large and even he only managed half of it(leftovers!). Drinks — I have to mention that this place has ORANGEBANG. Not many places have this anymore and even less common — FREEREFILLS. Major points from me for that. We definitely took advantage of that. They also had horchata of course. Overall — Glad we tried this place — next time we get a mexican craving this place is definitely on the short list.

Not do SUPERMEX It’s TACOTUESDAY and I want tacos but from where? I figured I would head down to Belmont Shore in search of a couple tacos and remembered there was a Super Mex Jr. on 2nd street. There are a few other places but I HADNOT eating at a SUPERMEX in a long while so I wanted to give them a try and see if they are any good. I found parking easily as I know of some CLOSEFREE parking where the rent-a-cops meter maids don’t hassle you and you can go unnoticed for a bit. I would tell you but then I’d have to kill you and you’d probably blab it to all your friends so I’ll keep that one under my hat. I hop out the car and walk right in. I lady is wait for her order to be bagged. I grab a menu and check out what they have. My eye make a bee-line right to the tacos. Like most places you can get them a-la-carte or in a combination. I decided to try the combination which came with 2 tacos(beef or chicken), rice and beans. I don’t normally eat rice or beans because they are heavy and try to seduce me to take a nap under my desk which is frowned upon at most business. This place is pretty tiny and ONLY for pick-ups which is cool because your order doesn’t get blended in with all the other orders of the people eating at tables, which generally leads to LESS of a wait time which is right up my alley so I can get back to work. If you don’t want to wait at all then you can call your order in and go by to pick it up which I saw several peeps doing. There is a small slatted park bench for waiting but like I said this place is tiny so there is no much. The walls are covered with that orange salmon color that tries to make you feel like you’re in Mexico. There are also a few paintings of maps and a picture of the owners who started Super Mex. Other than that there is only a counter and kitchen for preparing your food. Pretty to the point type of place. My order was ready in not time as I figured it would be. I paid and left and went back to work to get my grub on. Once back at work I sat at my desk and removed the continents from the bags. I was happy to find utensils and plenty of napkins which some places don’t include, which I hate. They assume you are going to a place that have these things or they don’t give a FLYINFIG if you have to eat with your hands. My food surprisingly came in a nice sectioned sturdy plastic container that you could actually probably use again if you wanted to. They also had salsa and fresh tortillas for me on the side. I was FAMISHED so I DOVEINMOOUTHFIRST. The rice was OK nothing special, but at least it was cook all the way because I HATECRUNCHYRICE. The beans were also OK. They really didn’t have much flavor then what the can they came out of included. I didn’t expect that the rice and beans would be special since this place is a chain but they were on par with the chainy-taste. My tacos were NICE. I wouldn’t say they were SPECTACULAR by any stretch of the imagination but they did the job. I liked the shredded beef but the tortilla were a bit grease-a-fied. THe chicken was ok and tender with NOPIECESOFGRISTLE. I’m NOT a GRISTLEKIND-AGIRL! I added the salsa to both tacos which ONLYHELP them out but NOT by much since the salsa was a bit spicy for my taste. What can I say, ya’ll know I’m a big baby. For a to-go, quickie lunch food they did OK. Not really a place I would recommend for a NICEDINNER. It’s a few steps up from taco bell but NOT my idea of FANTASTIC. I’ll probably come again for lunch but outside of that NOTGONNAHAPPEN if I can help it.
