Sakura Sushi is under new management as the head sushi chef let us know… So fresh and so delicious. We came in just on a whim and oh my goodness we stuffed ourselves! The sushi chefs also made us a special treat at no charge a delicious cilantro and fresh tuna ceviche on a fried wonton. That sounds pretty plain but it was out of this world AMAZING! Love this place will go back often!!!

Someone is obviously slamming this restaurant… I’ve eaten hear for the past two years and always been impressed with the fresh fish and solid service. Manny, the owner, has come up with some inventive rolls. He has blended traditional japanese sushi with some hints of his Burmese roots. It’s a small, off the beaten path venue. Great service and try the yellow tail toro(fatty) if you stop by.

Okay, so I am a big fan of sushi. My wife and I can eat both Sushi and Mexican food any time of day, any day of the week. Thus, I appreciate venues that have fresh, good-quality and tasting sushi. I admit I don’t expect much when I visit a «hole-in-the-wall» sushi place. I expect much more from Kabuki or Japanese Castle. However, I visited Sakura today for a lunch meeting and was pleasantly surprised. The Yellow Tail was very fresh, and it showed up as a happy hour feature. I never see yellow tail sushi on the happy hour menu at any place, which is a bummer because it is my favorite. Lo and behold, Sakura includes it for happy hour. We ordered 4 different roles(rainbow, spider, spicy tuna tempura, vegas) and I enjoyed each one of them. The rainbow was not the best I had, nor was the spicy tuna. However, the spider and vegas roles were delicious. The service was OK, no complaints. My cup was never empty because the server always came back with iced tea. I do think the price is a bit too high for the quality of food, but the happy hour menu was very decent. All in all, I prefer the main sushi restaurants, but whenever I am in this particular area, I can see myself going to this place if I am craving sushi.

This review is based strictly on the teriyaki chicken and Gyoza that i had here. Talk about frozen food, the chicken was flat and pounded to oblivion. The tempura fried chicken was good only for the sauce that came with it i guess. The Gyoza was also gross and totally came from the freezer. For the prices they charge for most of the items on the menu, you would expect things to be made fresh that day.

I’m surprised to see a ton of reports here about unfresh sushi, because the sushi I had here was some of the freshest I’ve eaten. Maybe they were just having a good day or something. Anyway, the sushi was nice and fresh, so I have no complaints there; however, I was a bit disappointed in the menu options and prices. First of all, there are only standard sushi choices, and none of those innovative house-made up rolls that you see at other sushi restaurants; and most other places tend to decorate their specialty rolls with special sauces, and this place doesn’t. While I enjoyed my sushi, and again, it was some of the freshest I’ve had(much better than supermarket sushi or buffet sushi), it would have been even more better had it had some sort of «special sauce» on it(I would have ordered a roll with such if it was a menu option). It was nice and yummy, but not *wow*. The prices, on average, seemed sort of steep. While a few rolls here are cheaper than their counterparts at other restaurants, most are either equal in price, or even more. I only ordered one roll, and it was almost $ 11. I realized I probably could have gone somewhere else and gotten two rolls for a little more. But, you live and learn. The service left a lot to be desired. While the hostess wasn’t outright rude, it seemed like it was almost a chore for her to help me. Maybe she wasn’t pleased that I ordered my food to-go(had work to do at home, otherwise I would have dined in); but she didn’t smile, she didn’t interact with me, and she impatiently stood above me as I browsed through the menu, trying to decide what to order. On the plus side, the sushi was ready in about five minutes, so I did not have to wait(and yes, it was still fresh!) long. Given that there are so many other choices of sushi restaurants in the area with cheaper prices and a bigger variety of rolls, I likely won’t be back; not unless, of course, this was the only sushi place in the area.

I visit this restaurant every six months when I am here on business and have always found the service and quality of the sushi very good. I too have been to Japan many times and have found this place to be of better than average. I am surprised to see all of the negative comments and am quite surprised. The service was excellent and very attentive. The prices are very reasonable. I plan to be back in six months!

I’m shocked and confused by the less-than-stellar reviews on here… I’ve had sushi at a zillion different places, including all over Japan, and I’d say the sushi here is pretty darned good. I particularly like the veggie tempura roll — addictive! And I like the atmosphere — very friendly and unpretentious and welcoming of kids(key for me). This is our local go-to spot for sushi, whether dine-in or take-out. Despite some of the poor reviews, I would really encourage everyone to give it a try and see for yourself. It is reasonably priced, convenient, comfortable, and yummy.

I saw an ad for their summer roll which was some sort of tuna roll wrapped with cucumber instead of seaweed. It looked so refreshing on a hot summers day so we decided to give this place a try… Nothing to rave about, really. Nothing sticks out… so I guess there’s not much to rate on. I give it 2 stars because there was nothing bad about it.

This place is great. The reason is because the food taste wonderful and the service is even better. It is family owned, and the one thing I love is when you are a regular at a restaurant maybe the people there would remember you. Here they do. The sushi at their place is so good because it is made with L-O-V-E.

I’ve given Sakura numerous chances and they usually come up pretty mediocre. And after my last experience this past weekend… well, I’m over it. The bf and I ordered combo lunches. Both of us got the spicy tuna roll as one of our choices. The food came, and after picking a long black hair off of the tray(not even a chance it was mine) I fought back my excellent gag reflex and went ahead and tried my tuna roll. I could tell that there was something off about it, and one more chopstick jab and taste of just the tuna confirmed it… right about the time the bf tried his and seconded my opinion. We ate the rest of our food and when the waitress came we told her the tuna rolls were bad and we’d like them taken off the check. She obliged. Truthfully, she didn’t seem that surprised. Unfortunately, my 2 item combo had turned into a 1 item combo. I went home slightly hungry and more than a bit irritated. To add insult to injury, I was totally sick when I got home and blame it entirely on the couple bites of nasty spicy tuna that I had. Thanks for nothing, Sakura.

No complaints here, just nothing memorable. The restaurant is quite small inside, and lacking in character. If you don’t like reading, you may enjoy the menu because it consists entirely of pictures(which generally doesn’t bode well for the food). Service was prompt and food came quickly. Tuna sushi was pretty good, the«Mountain Roll» was very good, and the rest was just okay. A satisfying meal, but if I can barely muster the energy to write a Unilocal review, I certainly won’t be writing home about this one.

I would say it’s ok. Not from around the area, I was actually heading out to get lunch somewhere around the Office Depot location on Willow and thinking that sushi should be good in this town. However, if I had read the other reviews first, I would have chosen better. I had the two item combination for lunch. My teriyaki salmon and spicy tuna roll came with miso soup, salad and steamed rice. While the thin slice of salmon was good and I liked the vinaigrette dressing on the salad, the tuna roll was weirdly too spicy for my taste. The combo meal cost $ 7.95, which I didn’t think was too pricey, but I got a little worried when I realized the sign on the cashier counter that states a $ 10 minimum is required for credit card purchases and I waned to pay the tab with my AmEx. Thankfully, the nice waitresses decided it wasn’t a problem, and with tip, I was over $ 10 anyway. I was amused at the Misty May, Olympic Gold Medalist in volleyball, autographed Mikasa poster that hung amongst Japanese artwork and a photo of Mt. Fuji. Overall, though, I wish my company had bought me a better lunch on this business trip. :)

Um, not so much. The quality of this sushi is just not up to snuff. It’s not rolled well, the pieces are really small, and the prices are really large. The variety of rolls is also not so innovative, you have your usual fare but nothing thats like wow, i am craving me some sakura. We’ve been here twice, and won’t be going back. Once for happy hour, which to be perfectly honest is not a deal. And once for dinner, and I should have realized that it wasn’t crowded at all on a friday night, but alas, lesson learned. There are so many better options for sushi in the area(sushi kinoya, i luv sushi, fusion sushi, even haru haru… the list could go on and on). Also, we had vegetable tempura and it was really cold and tasted like it had been fried 2 hours before and sitting under a heat lamp, french fry style. We didn’t have any problems with the service, in fact i remember them being overly attentive because we were the only people in there, haha. But i do remember being shocked that happy hour for three people without any adult beverages could be 65 dollars, i think that was the final nail in the coffin, sorry Sakura.

I ordered the caterpillar roll tonight(I am a wuss when it comes to sushi, so I usually order the cooked rolls for myself, and my husband orders the fresh ones), and it was delicious, so I am going to give another star. I also had the chicken salad(see what I mean about the wuss thing?), and it was also very good — the chicken breast is pounded very thin, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and I think the dressing is the same as the tofu salad, which I like. I think they may have changed staff; the quality of the food seems to have improved, but I am going to have to wait for one of my Unilocal friends to try the fresh sushi — if they dare(dun-dun-D-U-U-U-U-N)!

Reviews are right on point. Sushi here isn’t the freshest. They are rolled with butterfingers if you ask me. No art whatsoever. The only reason why I’ve been to this ever-so-fine establishment is because my family loves to come here. I know, I know. I tried to convince them to try another spot based on Unilocal reviews prior to our arrival, but they insisted. As I sat there infront of my menu, thinking to myself, maybe this time… just this time it will be different. Maybe new owners, new chef, new hostess… NOT!!! As I sat there trying to eat my meal, the rolls and having a conversation with the fam, I noticed other patrons as they walked in. …stand there. …looking around. …standing still. …no hostess lady in sight. (awkward) As I make eye contact with a few of these patrons who’ve walked in, I look around to see where this ever so attentive hostess was. Nowhere in sight, that’s where. I even saw one of the servers, just walk on by. Without saying a peep, he just walked on by. It boggles me that if you’re in the industry of working with people, you should at least have a minute amount of people skills. Like smiling or able to speak the words«We’ll be right with you.» Wow… Although my meal looked enticing, it tasted otherwise. Never again!

Unfortunately, i know there is a certain amount of pride that the sushi artists have for what they create, but it’s a lot harder when the sushi isn’t fresh or flavorful. — kinda grossed out that my california rolls were room temperature. — the sunomono was way too sweet. + the staff was very friendly. — the shrimp was bland and dry — what’s with the spicy tuna mush? overpriced for the quality for sure. aaaand why are there flat screens with sports on?
