I have been a part of this meetup group since 2011 and it truly is for ALL experience levels. I’ve played volleyball(indoor and outdoor) for over 18 years and have helped tutor beginners in this group. I’ve seen people start off completely new and inexperienced where they are just learning the fundamentals, to actually playing competitive games of 2v2 against advanced players. About 6 courts are usually reserved and fully equipped with lines and regulation volleyballs(not the fake replicas but the real deal pro-quality volleyballs). There’s always three courts of 4s and three courts of 2s going on all-morning. Usually by 1pm everyone is tired and starts heading home. Be sure to bring water and wear lots of sunscreen because shade and water fountains are far away from the volleyball courts. Onto the review: The group has evolved over the years to a very well organized and competition-friendly atmosphere. The group is for most ages, but typically everyone is between the ages of 18 – 55. I would not recommend this for kids under the age of 13 because injuries can happen when you play with people physically bigger and mature. This meetup is for those serious about learning to play beach volleyball, get better at it, and have fun. The current organizer, Roman, is very friendly and welcoming. Above all else, he wants fairness in all the games. On occasion teams will be mixed up to balance out experience levels. It’s a learning experiencing for everyone, but in the end, it makes you and everyone else a better player when the competition is varied. The 3-and-out rule ensures everyone gets a chance to play. «Super» teams are discouraged, but if games are consistent blow-outs, then you might be asked to break-up. The point of the meetup is to have fun, and blow-outs are NOFUN. There’s always going to be 1 or 2 of those over-competitive-not-so-friendly players, but usually everyone else is friendly and encouraging. The biggest tip: be friendly and have FUN! Bad attitudes are not welcome in the meetup group. If you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, there’s something for everyone! If you happen to come by on a Sunday, look for me if you’d like some practice… or some friendly competition! :)

My first time attending LBVB was a memorable experience. Everyone was extremely personable and eccentric. It’s was a total team environment and I did not feel like an outsider even on my first day there. Roman, the groups organizer is the coolest because he walks around and gets involved in the game which says a lot about him as well. If you’re looking to pick up a new hobby o make new frinrds then I recommend you get your it down to the sand Saturday or Sunday’s and come have some fun. :D

For anyone looking to play rec beach volleyball, this is as organized and as good of a Meetup group as there is out there. Roman keeps the games fair and running at a consistent pace. The players are welcoming and while there’s still a certain level of play expected, most people are still there to enjoy the sun and have fun. Check it out!

Good group. Well organized. Nice people. Skill level ranges from beginner to intermediate. It’s meant for fun. There are some advanced players but no worries. If you know how to play, you’ll be fine.

Roman does a great job organizing the meetup. The members are nice to each other. Plenty of chances to play regardless of skill level. Some of the better players like Skippy give tips if you ask for help. Playing at this meetup always gets me in a goods mood.

This group is amazing. When I moved back to LB I was looking for a way to be able to play volleyball and I am so glad I found this Meetup. The people are so friendly and start to feel like family after just a few games. Roman works so hard to keep this going and it is all worth it. Definitely check it out to play some great beach games

I was searching for a free or inexpensive beach volleyball club and kept hearing about Long Beach Volleyball meetups so I decided to check it out. The organizer Roman very welcoming and I quickly started playing. Pretty much everyone I have met here is local and just enjoy having a good time. Good music, good vibes. Don’t stress if you’re not a pro, keep coming, learn the rules and remember to have fun.

I just started playing with this group this summer, but many of their members have been playing together for years. Whether you’re looking for simple, fun and recreational 3– or 4-person team play(with a required low intermediate skill level), or a more challenging & competitive 2-person game, this meet up offers both. Just about everyone there is very welcoming so joining this group can increase your social circle as well. This meet up is very well organized and runs smoothly because Roman is dedicated to making the process easy, fun & fair. There is always good quality equipment used and several courts set up to ensure everyone gets a chance to play as many games as they like! I highly recommend this meet up. Whether I come alone or with friends, I always have a great time and challenge my skill level to improve. There’s usually music playing so spectators are also welcome. Parking is easy and for the most part free or costs a few quarters in the meter. Come on out & play! See ya on the sand soon!

Friendly people who share a love of the game and don’t take imperfections too seriously. If u want to be social and smile and laugh and improve your game it’s worth checking out. The commitment of a few allows the rest of to enjoy a weekend of Sun, sand and spikes!

I’ve been a part of this meetup for a few years now and each year it continues to improve. It is very well organized, with a sign in sheet for doubles and one for 4’s. You can only sign into one sheet at a time. Roman, the host, brings gear for six courts: three doubles courts and three 4’s courts. Parking is essentially free. Classes are provided on Sunday mornings to those who would like to learn how to play or improve their fundamentals. The members are of all ages and walks of life and they’re all really great and fun-loving people. There are players of all skill levels from beginners to advanced, although most are varying levels intermediate. Roman also brings a huge bluetooth speaker and provides music for us while we play. Great meetup! You should join!

I’ve been playing with this friendly meet up group for more than a couple of years now. They play doubles and 4’s, and most of their players are intermediate. Free parking and sometimes free food. :) The organizer also provides music from all sort of genre for everyone’s interest.

Been playing with this group for a couple years now and it’s always been good vibes and good games. Everyone is friendly and Roman who organizes the meet up every week does a great job keeping the games going and helping out when needed. We even have a girl who offers lessons for those who want to learn. California sunshine and beach volleyball… what more could you ask for.
