Food is always fresh and delicious. The owner, sandy, goes the extra mile with great customer service and she lets you try samples of their food. I love that they hand-make almost every item, including their condiments!(P.s. They have an incredible homemade thousand island dressing.) I’ve read others complaints about how the sandwiches aren’t stacked mile-high with meat, but the flavor and quality of the meat is superior is many other delis. And since their sandwich price seems to be slightly less than other places, it’s not a big deal to pay for extra meat if you want. In my opinion tho, the portion of meat is perfect. I am very full if I eat the whole sandwich! My favorite is the Dinty Moore, but their fried fish is also yummy. It’s nice to have a family-operated joint with great food, and an owner who truly cares about relationships with her guests!

I’ve passed this place for years wondering what it was like. Today I learned I shouldn’t have stopped. In terms of comparing corned beef to establishments like– Detroit Ham and Corned Beef, Pickles and Rye and Steve’s Deli there is no comparison. All three offer a true deli sandwich with a lean meat option on hearty rye bread at a reasonable price. David’s New York Deli serves a half filled sandwich for nearly the same price and if you want what other places serve you are expected to pay another $ 2.95. Lean corned beef I liken to a fine filet. This sandwich was filled with a fat filled corned beef so mushy it was difficult to distinguish between the cole slaw and the corned beef. I was asked if I wanted my bread grilled which I said no then still received my meat hot? This combination made for a soggy sandwich. I would have appreciated the order taker/cashier/sandwich maker person to have enlightened me to their process so I could have made a better decision. I asked for a fountain drink and was then told they were out of my selection and one or two others. I settled for water. Once seated sipping on water I noticed a pop cooler with various offerings of canned and bottled soda. The multi tasking worker failed to mention this so she lost a chance to up her ticket. No one available to clean tables, the front door was wide open to Farmington Rd. which I thought violated health code and I wasn’t very impressed with the signs telling me where to put trash, baskets and pop cans. The place is dated and needs help. I just looked at pictures posted by others. There is a picture of a great looking deli case and loaves of bread, I think posted by Keith, within the last couple of weeks. There is no way this picture is current, it more resembles other pictures taken 3 – 4 years ago. Do not visit based on this one photo or my review. Too many other places doing honest work serving great food.

Had a good Waldorf salad here. My son likes the grilled cheese. Our group has consensus that they have the best brownies here.

That food is great, I’ve had several sandwiches and salads. They’re always good. However… that wait to order/have your food cooked is ridiculous. It’s ALWAYS long no matter how many other people are there. Furthermore the prices are way too high. No way should the sandwich be $ 8.00 for the small amount of meat that comes on it. Then another 2 bucks for extra meat. Pretty unfair. It’s good tho!

I waited 40 minutes for a sandwich. That is NEVER acceptable.

The reason I give this 3 stars is because I believe their prices are way TOO high. They should either give you bigger portions or lower the price for the amount if food you receive. But, I will say I love the cluckin chicken wrap. It is very tasty and I like the bread they use for the wrap and trust me I grew up on bread! My sisters and I chose bread over cookies. But, as I read in another review the pasta salad portion is just embarrassing. It comes in one of those little solo cups you would get a side of ranch in! So, food = good price/portion = BAD!

New owner. The owner use to own a place called Maniacs that was in Livonia. I loved going there, but they shut down in the recession. So, now the owner has purchased N.Y. Deli. I was so excited about this. She has amazing tuna fish and chicken salad. Everything is fresh and I think a lot of stuff is organic. It’s a popular place, so plan on waiting a bit.

There is no better place in livonia to get a sandwich. Period, the end. Try the gyro(add humus and feta but take nothing away). When you can’t stop thinking about it and return the next day for a second helping, make sure to tell them to put that bad boy on the menu. Enjoy and tell them Bobby says hi.

I went in there for my first time the other day after passing by it hundreds of times. Feels like a very hole in the wall kind of place but I like that. I had the Philly cheesesteak. It was actually roast beef sirloin, but regardless, I was impressed by how good it was, and I especially liked the roll it was on. I’ll definitely be back to try more, since they have so many sandwiches. They also have breakfast so I’ll have to get up early enough one day to catch it. Wish they were open a little bit later than 4, but I guess that’s what makes the place somewhat peculiar. I’d most definitely recommend giving it a try.

Well, like a fool I decided to give this place a second chance. I go in and order what a New York deli should do right, Corned beef on rye with swiss cheese and yellow mustard. What can I say, I have had pre-packaged grocery store corned beef that had better texture and more flavor than this. Swiss tasted like Sargento, and the rye bread almost flavor free. I have no idea how this place is still in business. If I could have given 0 stars or half a star I would have.

On Unilocal, two stars literally translates to, «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» That is certainly the case in my recent visit David’s New York Deli in Livonia. I’ve had better sandwiches concocted by my 7-year old self making my own lunch and slapping together some bologna on Aunt Millie’s wheat bread. As you’ll see from my other reviews, I enjoy giving out high ratings for restaurants — particularly local mom-n-pop shops! But in this case, I just can’t. I went up to David’s NY Deli on a particularly sunny afternoon, passing good ol’ Bates Burgers on the way. I just can’t forgive myself for choosing this deli over Bates that day! I’ll make this short. We paid nearly $ 19 for what ended up being two pops, two tablespoon-portioned ramekins of pasta salad, and two sandwiches made with humdrum white bread, a measly portion of ham and turkey and American cheese. No condiments. No offerings for LTO. Noooo nothin’. And FYI: I hate, and I mean loathe, American cheese. I would never have ordered that, but was too annoyed to send it back. It would have been better had the guy taking our order and making our sandwiches had said anything — ANYthing — other than, «What can I get for you?» He simply thew the sandwiches together, put them on their styrofoam plates and rang us up. No checking in. No friendly goodbye. And if you know me — you know how charming I can be! This was just disappointing, overall. I remain confused about my visit — I’ve heard from many people that this deli is great. Maybe that was with its old management. But we went during a slow lunchtime when they really had the opportunity to impress us, and they blew it. Unfortunately, I’m just not interested in going back to let David and his deli redeem themselves. On to bigger(or smaller) and better delis!
