Frisch’s Big Boy Restaurant

We haven’t been here in about two years because on the previous visits, we have had a hard time getting waited on, and if we chose buffet, there wasn’t much food in the pans. So we gave up coming here. We decided to give it another try, and it was much better. The breakfast buffet was good, and the service was also good.

Friendly staff, excellent food, prompt service. Restaurant and kitchen could be a little bit cleaner but overall I was satisfied with my experience.

Even though I’m originally from Ky, and had seen these stores several times, I’d never eaten there. So I gave it a shot and was disappointed. I had hoped for better food. I see and hear tons of people who love this place. I had ordered the haddock and chips and boy, was it a let down. My server is who recommended it and I wish I could have made her refund my money. lol It was really not great, just sub standard at best. I will try a burger next time. So I’m willing to give it one more chance. Like I said, people swear by this place. So maybe I went on an off day! At least that’s what I hope.

Wouldn’t recommend, mostly because of the service, or lack thereof. Compared to the Hamburg location, this place is a dump. No one seems to want to be there, including the people eating there, for good reason.

So, so very disappointed. The service here was a joke. They should just place your food order in a hot window and call out your number to come get it. And I ordered the fish because I hadn’t eaten fish in a while and I thought, why not. Oh boy, this filet of white fish was tougher than the soul of my shoe. How sad for that fish. I’m sure there are lots of yummy options on that big menu, but I sure picked a doozy that night. Not a good impression. Sigh.

This has got to be one of the nastiest rest I have eaten at in Lexington. I used to love this place but no more. The last few times I have eaten here it has just got worse and worse. What a shame that corp doesn’t shut this place down.

I don’t know what happened to this place, it used to be good. Now the food tastes like it was frozen, thawed, refrozen, re-​thawed, left out for 2 days, then microwaved. Seriously THE worst tasting food I’ve ever had in my life from any restaurant.
On top of that, they train the servers to constantly take stuff off your table every 2 seconds. At one point he tried to take my plate with food STILL ON IT even after I told him no! I said «listen, I don’t want a single item removed from this table until I leave». Can you guess what happened about 30 seconds later? «Can I get that plate?» It was just non-​stop, «can I take that plate? can I take that plate? can I take that plate?“every minute. I mean what is up with that? Who decided that it was really «helpful» to constantly remove peoples plates with food still on them?

We come here often. The food is often good, though there can be some hits and misses with it. We know many people who work here from dining here so often and they make the experience all the more pleasant.

Why 2 stars? Because the sentiment outweighed reality.

I simply went to Frisch’s for one reason: I had a Big Boy toy as a kid, but we didn’t have one of these restaurants anywhere near me growing up. For this reason, I always looked at these places fondly, and have wanted to visit one for decades. I’ll admit, I did no research, and had no idea what to expect.
What I found out was that it was like a Steak and Shake.
Except a lot worse.
And the clientele was mostly 65+
So, you have a server, but it’s fast food. I haven’t eaten fast food in years, and I can’t help but walk away from this experience, wondering how people can tolerate it. I mean, it’s really terrible in every sense of the word.
My chicken fried steak was probably one of the worst I’ve ever had, and my mac-​n-​cheese was somehow a lower quality than what I could make at home with easy mac. I tried to save the day by ordering the salted caramel cheesecake, which looked delightful in the picture. Unfortunately, it came straight from the freezer where it had probably been living for a while, and tasted as such.
The employees were all very friendly, which is the only reason for 2 stars instead of 1.
Maybe I shouldn’t write reviews right after waking up… I felt a little crotchety writing that, but then again, it’s fast food. If I actually ever went to McDonald’s, BK, Wendy’s, etc — I’d have tons of 1 and 2 star reviews to follow.

Stopped here for a big boy burger and pie, i sat at the bar. Burger was ok, lot of fat and gristle in the burger. The meat looks much larger in the photos. Waited and waited for pie. Something about the drive through person was supposed to serve pie? My waitress kept finding other things to do, then finally took a few steps to the case and got the pie. I have eat here often, seems the prices have gone up. Soup and salad bar seems a bit more expensive compared to others for what you get.

Not bad. I was wondering what this restaurant was, that just kind of popped up in a lot, next to Meijer. I had some animosity towards it, at first, because Lexington seems to be a mess of restaurants all ready.
Anyway, I ordered the breakfast egg and bacon sandwich and low and behold it is an actual SANDWICH! Lettuce, cheese, bacon, and egg on toasted bread. Convenient that they hand it to you in a styrofoam box and have a napkin inside. Saves on trash.
Also, not included in the whole rating of this business; but I could not help but notice that Big Boy statue thing. Kind of looks scary. Reminds me of that one Jimmy Neutron restaurant where Jimmy automates that McSpankey’s restaurant and then it comes alive and takes over the whole city. Just a thought, if this thing ever becomes automated. O_​O

I found the Restaurant very cleans and the wait staff very pleasant. The food came out really fast and HOT. Even thou I had the soup & salad & fruit Bar for $ 6.95 all you can eat. The Cream Cheese and broccoli soup was really good and very satifing warm on a rainy day. The salad bar was stocked with a variety of items and it was kept cleaned the whole time. I really wanted to try the Butterfingers cheesecake but they ran out. Overall I would go back. Very reasonable prices and a nice family place.

I hate updating a review for the worst, but this is a must. I noticed that they did a remodel of the place and it’s closer to home than the new Frisch’s in Hamburg, so gave the breakfast a shot. The first thing that I noticed was that that the buffet was a lot smaller than the Hamburg location, and not as many options. Oh well, I still opted for the buffet. Yikes! Everything was less than safe temperatures on the breakfast buffet. Then I watched a lady fill the ice compartment up by shoveling ice from the tray with her bare hands, then I noticed two different employees walk by and scoop and eat from the mound of ice with their bare hands. My seat faced that direction so it was an observation that was hard to miss. This place could use a lesson in sanitation and health hazards. The only reason that I left the second star was that the waitress was very nice and explained that they only realized something was wrong with the warmers after they checked the food temperature (after I mentioned it to her). I will not be back to this location… if I want Frisch’s again, I’ll drive across town to the new Hamburg location.

I grew up eating Frisch’s and now my daughter loves it too. Veg Soup and the bar is what we like! Friendly staff at this location on most days.

We got there and had to wait a minute before somebody came and took us to our seats. For the most part everybody was friendly. Overall this is a destination where you can get cheap food at a cheap price. Quality of the food was not that great but customer service was alright.

Simple and great breakfast food buffet. There are a lot of senior people but thats no biggie. There’s plenty of parking at the back but it can get full when they’re super busy. All in all, I’d recommend this place to anyone — whether u r a local or visiting town
