Ray washed and gave me the cut I wanted. It took about 14 mins total — super impressive!
$ 16 and out the door. Every haircut should be so easy! I’ll be back!

Let me start with my experience with a great hair stylist — my twin sister (who we don’t even talk anymore) is such an awesome hair stylist! She had mad skillz with cut AND color which is such a rare gift in the hair salon industry of which I have been all to familiar with in the past!
My hair has been black and white Shakira style (with no black bleed on my platinum white — thank you sister!) Red and white, purple, black, brown and carmel with blonde highlights… ladies (and gents) you name it I have had it… and I would get compliments — that’s an important part since you can have color and no one say a word to ya! HA!
I’ve had long hair with long layers and face framing layers so I understand a top notch cut where the stylist take the time to pull out the different hair layers and cut…
now, as a stay-​at-​home mom the budget does not include fun color or fancy cuts… so I usually just let my long hair get ridiculously long — to my butt before this cut! But who cares — it’s usually in my mom bun on the top of my head! LOL! Then I let it down like Rapunzel when my hubby comes home! HAHAHAHA…
So, my really good friend Marissa (her review is in here too) told me about her style guy Ray (Raid). Her hair is pretty cool — the thing I like the most about her hair is the color. I thought– whatever — the price is right and I have enough long hair that if I cut it just 6 inches — a good cut or bad — eh… who cares… my friend watched my boys and I headed off to cut my hair with my daughter.
He washed my hair with un-​labled hair product (it did smell good and worked good). Brushed my hair smooth. Asked me a couple of times before he cut — knowing long hair people are a little more timid in cuts… we agreed 6 inches. He showed me on a comb — but not the kind of comb that most stylist use to measure. He cut straight across the back. Pulled some hair in the front of my face and made sure it was even. Then done. $ 16 bucks. Eh, ok — you get what you pay for. I am just so formerly spoiled with the detail cuts. He did the same thing with my beautiful daughter for $ 13.
Great points about Ray/​Raid. He is very nice and operates a humble and welcoming salon. He doesn’t over cut or over price. It is a fun experience. He has a ton of repeat business and is busy which is also a good sign. The lady who was before me had great hair! My friend Marissa’s hair is really cool looking too. He might be really strong at color. He has been in the business for a long time so that says something too.
But MY experience was fine — but I have had better.
***TIP! Look at reviews then check out their photos and if you like their hair… photos tell a better story right!!! I also like to look at other places that the reviewer has reviewed. If I find a place that I gave 2 stars and they gave 4 – 5 stars… we probably have different standards!

Came here to get layers. It was one gentleman who seemed to be okay w/​taking his time w/​me until another client came in & then I felt like he was rushing. My hair came out choppy. I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

I’ve been coming here ever since I moved and they have always taken good care of my mom and I. Ray has watched me grow up and he has been cutting my hair for a long time. He does a great job with every one of his clients.

I’ve been going to Ray andVeronica for years and I drive from Chula Vista to go there! They are so warm and welcoming. It is nice to get your hair done and be treated like family. I get my hair and my 15 year old son’s hair cut plus occasional streaks. Ray takes such time to be sure I’m happy with the color — did low lights one time when some streaks weren’t as subtle as I wanted– didn’t charge extra. You see how both take such care to make my son’s cut perfect. And how nicely they do his eyebrows for free!
If Eva Z thinks $ 16 is too much for a haircut, go to a beauty school to get your hair massacred or drive to TJ. You zing them because he didn’t charge you more when your hair was long? The fact that they have several clients going at one time shows you they keep busy and try to help everyone that comes in. You want everyone to drop everything and fawn all over you go to Hillcrest and drop $ 75 for nothing.

I went in the first time and Ray helped me get a trim, that went well. I was the only one there so he took the time to talk to me and what not so that was nice.
Then I went in with Gina and she was awesome! gave a cute simple cut and I liked it!
Went back in to get my hair a little shorter and I was happy to see Ray helping me again — er big mistake. He was helping two other ladies, they had the foils in their hair so I assume they were waiting for their hair to finish up bleaching or something.
Anyway I explained to Ray that all I want is the back part of my hair shorter and what he pretty much does is lifts half my hair. chops the back of my hair in a diagonal «straight» line and kinda cuts a little on top and that’s is. This took him only like 7 minutes. I asked him how much my total will be and he responds in a sarcastic way and says «how much is it always?» and I said, «I don’t know, the first two times I came in I had long hair» now I have short hair. Then I said, «I don’t know $ 15?» and he said «No, it’s 16 like every time.» I was kinda confused because I thought it was more expensive when hair was longer so why did I pay the same now when I have short hair? Anyway, I didn’t think much about it… left a good tip and left.
I couldn’t stand my hair because it wouldn’t sit right and it was uneven and awkward! It was getting really annoying so
I went to AVA hair studio in Rancho san diego instead and she was awesome, she makes you feel very important and is very genuine and easy going. She explained that whoever cut my hair was doing it in a lazy way and all they did was cut a Bob UNDER my original bob to give it a «tucked in» look, which Ray kept mentioning, but in reality that’s the lazy way. Also the layer under my hair that he cut wasn’t even straight, he is heavy on his right.
NEVER going back. Sad to say the owner of the business is the one who turned one of their clients away, NOT his employees.

Jessica was wonderful, she took her time to cut my hair just the way I had indicated without having to show her a photo. She is extremely talented in her craft.
