My original appointment was scheduled with Brandi. She was highly recommended by a close friend. After so many hit and misses finding a good stylist, I was skeptical. Unfortunately Brandi was ill the day of my appointment and she graciously got me filled the same day with Patrice. OMG when I say I loved my hair I LOVED my hair. The atmosphere is light, very professional. What I loved most was they took into count when there were kids present. The choice of music and conversation was modified to take them into count! I give them five stars!

I have never had a weave done or ever been to a salon in my life. I met with Brandi prior to my appt and she answered all questions and is very nice and knows what she’s doing. I’m leaving for boot camp and needed something easy to manage since I’ll have no time to myself. The process was very smooth and everyone who works there is really cool and made it enjoyable. Thanks Karen and Brandi, you ladies are great!

Stopped here by chance while here for school. Decided to get a sew in and I was able to get an appointment next day. They do have really good hair in the salon but it is a bit pricey. When you get there if you do get the hir in salon make sure you physically see the bundles and lengths you want because they may say they have it and when you get in the seat they don’t. Just like any salon make sure you cleared your schedule for the day because you will be waiting. The staff is friendly and they do Patrice is good just make sure you let remind her know what you want because hair dressers tend to forget, if you don’t usually get sew Ima or weave I would ask a lot of questions. And make sure if you don’t like it or feel like it ain’t right let them know cuz the sewing can be kinda loose.

When you find the perfect barber you find a home. James is absolutely outstanding! He doesn’t keep me waiting, which is a rarity as we all know, and my fade is always fresh. He’s definitely the best in San Diego!

Today I got a full sew in with a lace closure for the first time and OMG, I’m in love with my hair! I was super nervous but my stylist exceeded my expectations. Brandy did an excellent job and I am beyond satisfied. The customer service was great as well. Unlike most salons I’ve been to in the past, my stylist worked on my hair and my hair only. I purchased my hair from the salon, as well as the closure. I will definitely be returning to BSwank!

I started Unilocaling after my visit here December 2014, but i had to come back to give my review. I am from Detroit and I have come to only trust stylists in my hair if they are also from Detroit, but I figured I better try finding someone with comparable talent. I went searching instagram for San Diego stylists and I found NeNe who had some amazing pictures on her page. Come to find out, she was from Detroit! I knew I found the one. I walked in, easily made an appointment for the Same week and came back to be more than satisfied. NOT everyone can do a flawless sew in with minimum leave out, but she did it. The shop was clean and very professional and there was a lot of Christmas spirit in the air. The stylists also all worked well together and helped one another. I will NOT be letting anyone else do my hair as long as I am stationed in San Diego and I am excited about how healthy my natural hair will most likely be.

So ! to make this short and sweet. Ive been to Brandy a couple of times– she is a talented and knowledgable woman. Love how my hair turns out. HOWEVER:
Books 3 – 4 people at a time, I’ve been in there for 5+ hours for touch up relaxer
Price they quote on the phone, not always the price you pay
«Homey» vibe of the salon — laid back which is nice but conversation with other folks interrupts your appointment, (once again takes a long time)
That is all. She does amazing hair and there is no denying it. I just don’t have time on my day off to sit for hours while other people get their hair done. If there isn’t time for an appointment I’d rather it not be booked.

This place is amazing! From the receptionist to the assistant/​wash girl to the absolutely talented stylist who brought my hair to life. I had been searching for a new stylist for a new stylist after my old one moved away, and I am happy to say that I’ve found the perfect place. I got there 15 minutes earlier, but they wasted no time getting my hair history and getting me in the chair. I got a perm, cut, and style and I was out of there in less than 3 hours. I was truly impressed. Brandi is pro a with the scissors and is extremely knowledgeable about her craft. Absolutely awesome!

My son gets his hair cut here and has been for the last several months. His dad does as well and has been a customer of this salon for quite some time. My son’s barber is JC who always sends my son away with perfectly cut hair. I spent the first few years of my son’s life taking him to high priced kid salons only feeling I had wasted my money. Yes, my son enjoyed seeing a video and sitting in a chair that was shaped like a car but the quality of the haircuts were never that great. My son is biracial and his hair takes a little finesse in order to get it right. JC takes his time and spends quality time almost hair by hair until the finished product is perfect.

Everyone in the shop works as a team to ensure each customer is happy & they leave loving the final product. They do everything hair, makeup, hair cuts, body wraps, and so many other things. Brandi is the owner & she is an amazing business woman.

Everyone in the salon does amazing work! Love that everyone is professional! Brandi is my stylist and she does amazing work! The salon is really into having a healthy scalp and I really appreciate that! Keep up the good work guys! xoxo

This place is where it’s at!!! I went to Brandi yesterday for the very first time because I’ve heard great things about her. Went in with a look in mine and she KILLED it. First the customer service her is amazing the staff is really nice. Brandi does what best for your hair and not try to sell you on a style that won’t be in the best interest of your hair she’s very knowledgeable about hair and she’s truly in the business for the customer. She will make you look as beautiful as you feel, as long as I love in San Diego I will be coming to her and only her thank you so much! Love my new cut thank you Brandi

Chris is the only person I’ll allow to touch my hair now. Everything he does is amazing and his weaves look realistic as they should.
I put four stars because unless theres a special going on everyone is extremely pricey, but it is worth it.

I just moved to San Diego from DC and was looking for a good hair salon. I made an appointment with James, who not only patiently straightened my hair, but also gave me tips on how to treat my own hair.
The service was great and my hair looks wonderful, so I will definitely be going back.

My favorite hair salon in Cali now. Patrice was my stylist and I must say she did an amazing job. I got a partial sew-​in done last week and I love it. Service was great in my opinion. My appointment was at 10 and I was out of there by 3… It may seem like a long time but with the music and conversations going on it went by pretty fast. I absolutely love my hair… I booked my next appointment already lol. Thanks Patrice.

I recently relocated to San Diego from Los Angeles. My stylist in LA was top notch with a number of celebrity clients. She spoiled me with camera-​ready hairstyles so admittedly my standards became very high for what I wanted/​expected my hair to look like after leaving the hair salon. It should be noted that I tried 6 different stylists in the San Diego area… each as lackluster as the last. I resolved within myself that I would never have LA-​caliber hair in San Diego. And then I found Brandi at B’Swank. Brandi is a fantastic stylist, who is as talented as she is nice. She focuses on haircare while giving you a hairstyle that you would be proud to go in front of the camera with. And a shout out to James for one of the best hair washes in the business. So glad to call B’Swank Hair Studio my hair studio.

I am just not happy with the level of styling of my hair! I was charged $ 25 for a trim and my stylist only trimmed the sides of my hair and did some minor sculpting. I have short hair like Nia Long, so I just can’t see $ 25 for a trim on short hair and the sculpting that was done did NOT improve the look of my hair. It looks very matronly now.
So all together I was charged $ 90 for a wash and set!!! No relaxer or any extra! and I walked out of that shop looking like I got my hair done in somebody’s kitchen. I don’t mind paying a premium price for superior skills but it was mediocre at best. Maybe this shop doesn’t do short hair well but if you are in the business of doing African American hair it shouldn’t just be all about installing weave and long hair. It takes actual skill to do short hair and I left the shop feeling like I got got!
My hair had no holding spray on it!!! It’s less than 24 hours later and my hair is limp and flat. $ 90 down the drain! Although the shop was clean and looked very professional and the staff was friendly enough I am looking for more superior skills in a hair salon.

never trust a place with 5 stars. I can’t comment on how good they do on hair because my hair was never done! I get to my appt, I’m told to wait for my stylist, an hour passes and I guess that’s when they realize this lady forgot. instead of everyone being honest and saying hey we forgot, we apologize, can we get someone else to help you​.NO. their response is mis-​communication, which isn’t possible because I spoke to the stylist MYSELF, and the kicker is to wait another hour to get started. are these people serious? no one has 2 hours to wait around for ANYONE, my time is precious just like yours, this place is unprofessional and pretty much a bunch of liars who can’t take responsibility and I don’t get how they stay in business, but clearly some people like waiting around all day. I’d rather have nappy hair then to EVER deal with these people again. good luck if you do decide to go.
