Why didn’t I give this rock shop five stars? I’m not sure what a five star rock shop would consist of so I guessed this one is a sold FOUR! The shop is a eclectic scattering of polished stones, crystals and other gifts for those visiting Leavenworth. I would have really liked the polished stone bookends if I have the cash and intent to decorate a study with sweet looking rocks as bookends. More impressive was the overall selection of rocks and gemstones or what ever you call them. I’m no lapidary guru.

Freaking amazing selection of crystals, rocks, bookends, petrified wood and much more! They every kind of rock you can think of from very small to 4′ tall! I love rocks and was drooling over the minerals and geodes. I ended up buying a pink and purple geode and a purple amethyst while the boyfriend got a really cool rock(I forgot the type). The gal who helped us was a character out of a movie. She was charming, witty and very knowledgeable of her merchandise. She was happy to help take things out of the case for us to look at. Kids came in for a treasure hunt they were doing for school, and she treated them with great kindness. Even if you aren’t into rocks or fossils, I would recommend that you still check this place out. They have beautiful etched glass, mobiles and other things to peruse on the other side of their store.

Excellent selection of crystals; there are always beautiful new pieces every time I visit. Compared to the prices in the Seattle area, Mainz Haus of Rock is very reasonable. The ladies who work there are very nice and knowledgeable. Give yourself at least an hour to peruse the shop as it’s easy to miss something wonderful!

I wasn’t expecting to find a rock and gem shop in faux-Bavarian Leavenworth, so it was a surprise to stumble upon Mainz Haus of Rock inside a small indoor strip mall. The shop is fairly large and has a decent selection of minerals, along with more novelty/gift type items like jewelry, carvings, crystal figurines, and so on. There’s a small selection of Washington minerals and books on rock hunting in the area, which I wish they carried more of. They also have some nice sets for getting kids interested in mineralogy, such as a boxed display case of stones from Washington state. They carry coloring books and various identification guides for adults and kids, too. I saw some of those break-open-your-own-geode rocks, which I always thought were pretty cool as a kid! The prices have the usual Leavenworth markup and the person behind the counter greeted me but didn’t seem overly interested in helping me or making a sale. I didn’t necessarily mind this, because I like to browse on my own, but if you want more hands-on assistance you’ll probably have to go up and ask for it. One unexpected item they carry that even non-rock-hounds might like: those detailed laser-cut brass holiday ornaments, with a Leavenworth theme. It was summertime when I was there, so it seems to be an item they have year-round. If you’re looking for a Leavenworth souvenir for your tree, it might be worth stopping in to check out their supply.
