Zero stars would be preferred. Saturday night 1⁄29 attempted to be seated… Told us 20 min for a party 3. They sat a party of 4 right when they walked in, no reservation. Finally sat us, the waitress kept passing is and tending to other customers say after us. It was so bad that even another customer(sat after us) said to the waitress: «Hey, I think they were here before us», she came over to us with a fake smile and said«I’m sorry, I’ll be right with you»… She passed us by at least 10 more times not even offering us drinks so we left. If the owners read Unilocal reviews, please pay attention. Your services sucks. Really, really, REALLY sucks! You should hire staff more appropriate for the amount of customers you get.

Over priced tourist trap! Totally bummed, I really wanted to like this place, great location and cool atmosphere.(they had live music) Our table ordered a few burgers, chicken caesar salad and schnitzel dinner. First the good… the burger was pretty good, nothing fancy, just good quality ingredients… lets see… what else was good… oh the over priced beer that took way too long to get was cold. thats it for the good. Now the negative… Service was really slow, and inattentive. It didn’t appear that busy and you could see the servers talking/hanging out by the salad prep area. We had to ask multiple times for silver ware and refills on water. It took about 55 minutes for our food to come out. The server kept making all the usual excuses, «oh the kitchen is behind, on the kitchen lost your ticket, the printer is down and had to be rebooted.» everyone around us got their food in a timely matter. The server was borderline arrogant and condescending. My friend said the schnitzel was bland and sort of doughy, he offered a bite, I declined. Beer was over $ 6 for a pint, $ 16 for bland chicken caesar salad, the chicken looked and tasted like it came from a can, It was in perfect little square chunks… weird. The burgers were around $ 13 – 14 bucks, a bit much but they were big and had a premium burger patty. Our fries were barely warm and when we asked the server for some fresh fries he just rolled his eyes and grabbed the plate. With so many other places to eat, why would I ever come back here???

Hello. We visited your restaurant on our way through Leavenworth. What the fuck are you even doing? If it’s a German restaurant, why are you serving pizza and pasta and lasagna? Maybe figure out how to make German food that doesn’t suck before you go tossing more countries on to the menu. The steak sandwich is a fucking joke. How hard is it to slice up a steak and put it on a sandwich with some arugula and havarti and caramelized onions? Instead I got a steak on a bun. A literally unseasoned piece of beef slapped on a bun with some token lettuce and tomatoe on the side and some frozen French fries. Would it kill you to rub some salt and pepper on the meat before you grill it at least? Ya’ll should be straight up embarrassed. And tell our waiter that his hat looks stupid as fuck. On top of the sketchy looking grub, the ladies bathroom was in disrepair. The toilet had dried puke streaming down the front. I wasn’t even comfortable sitting on the liners. The floor was disgusting. As if I needed more reason to loose my appetite… Also, is the ceiling falling? Remember when you were a kid and you just kinda assumed that all restaurants were good? Like, the place existed to serve people food, so therefore it must be better than anything your mom could cook at home? And then as you get older you realize that some restaurants are not good. Any asshole can open a restaurant and serve up uninspired bland plates of disappointment. yeah. Good luck staying in business. Don’t let the Germans find out about your cooking though, they might be so offended that they start world war 3. And I wouldn’t blame them. Sincerely, A non-return customer.

We came here with our family and have been every icicle fest for the past 5 years and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The food was ok, but the spatzle was undercooked and doughy. What was really bad was the service, no refills on drinks, no napkins, and had to ask for forks. We had to ask 3 times for refills of normal pop and it took over 10 minutes to get and keep in mind there was only 4 tables in here with three servers and a host. My daughter who is 5 got her food the very last and by this time she is already asleep on the table. It took 45 minutes to get a pizza sandwich which turned out to be melted cheese and pepperoni and plain toast. The server then tried blaming the cook in front of us which is incredibly unprofessional. Just super disappointed in the services and being a waitress I understand the job and there wasn’t any credible excuses for the lack of service.

The one star I gave is for the bread. That’s literally it. I walked in with a few friends and we asked how long the wait would be, the hostess wasn’t very helpful saying«about 5…10…15.maybe 30 minutes?». Lol. Well we eventually got seated and our order was taken about 15 minutes after we sat down, not bad. The bread that came out was awesome, warm and the garlic butter was great. After that though, it all went downhill because my party waited over an hour for our food. Probably an hour and half, and we were starving. After an hour and fifteen into waiting and our server completely ignoring our presence after she told us our food would be out soon thirty minutes prior, we called over another server and he was super rude. When the food finally came out, it wasn’t great. The spaghetti sauce was extremely watery and barely tasted like anything with the noodles. The lasagna was dry and everything was overpriced. Super disappointed with this place.

I really wanted to like this place! We came here since the originally spot we wanted to eat at had a crazy line(our fault for coming during the holidays). We put our names down and only waited about 15 minutes. There was a party of 6 after us that I saw from our table and it took them an hour to get seated. The woman at the front wasn’t even calling out the names, she just spoke them in a barely louder than average tone. It was crazy busy and packed. Thanks to this one party who repeated and shouted out all the names she was saying we were able to hear ours as well as everyone else. Okay, so we get to our table that smells like bleach — still thankful they cleaned it — and handed our menus. We sat there for another 10 – 15 minutes for someone to come over. We got water and put in our order. Our waitress wasn’t very friendly but I figured since she was busy. The next table had a really nice guy serving them. Someone brought us and the tables around us some bread since we were waiting a while for our food. Food came 20+ minutes after ordering. I don’t remember what I ordered but it was a sandwich, I think pork, that has sauerkraut on it. I specifically picked a sandwich that didn’t list that as an ingredient since most of the sandwiches did. Ick. We had no utensils at our table except for the bread knife so I scraped it off and ate half my sandwich. My bf had to hunt someone down to get forks. :| The meal overall was just okay. His steak sandwich was fine and I liked it way better than mine. The location is good and it’s a decent size building but I was not impressed by the food, nor the service, and would not return.

Served my son raw chicken in there chicken fingers meal. The rye bread was not rye bread on the Reuben sandwich. Service was ok, and my older son and wife got pretty good meals, but costly for what we got. I am hoping my son is not sick from the raw chicken. I guess if you like raw chicken and risking death this is the place, otherwise go somewhere else.

Boxing Day = very busy lunch session. Food OK. They have a variety to choose from if you’re not into true German food. Service was rushed and the fries were cold.

We don’t miss having dinner at the Baren House. It is another tradition we have when in Leavenworth. We ordered the Napoleon Schnitzel, Ribeye steak and kids grilled cheese sandwich. Food on time and the atmosphere was great! Our only complaint was either the ribeye which lacked the loin.

So my husband and I have been to Leavenworth a handful of times and last week was our first time to Baren Haus. We were hungry and cranky and Baren Haus was the only place without a huge line… we should’ve known better. The seating host was friendly enough, but he sat my husband and I(note: we are childfree) in the crazy family section and not a swanky booth away from the whiny chaos. The server girl was indifferent, had no personality whatsoever. We needed a few minutes to decide what to have for lunch and she came back in 10 minutes and asked in a very bored voice, «Ready to order food?» Ooooookay… I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger(which was VERY delicious, fries were great, too) and my husband ordered the chicken sandwich. Nothing too fancy here and it took OVER40 minutes to get our lunch. I know it’s not McDonald’s and we weren’t in any rush at all, but the restaurant was not busy at all and we had fairly simple orders… plus we were starving at this point. Another weird thing is that it was lower 40s out and they had the door OPEN! It was freezing and I had to put my coat and hat back on inside the restaurant! We only ended up tipping enough to make the bill even for me to balance the checkbook easier, no tip was actually intended because it wasn’t really earned. PROS: Convenient location, cool old brick interior, lots of choices on the menu. CONS: Blah service, unreasonably long wait for orders.

I walked in to meet a couple friends, and met them at the small bar near the front with the intention of getting a couple shots to celebrate a successful work day. There were only a few tables in house(maybe 4, but I remember 3) and it took the waitress 15 minutes to even look at us, by the time we got the shots we decided we wanted to just get the check and leave for somewhere that could serve us in an appropriate amount of time. Took another ridiculous amount of time to get the check, which when we received it, was astronomical for 4 shots. Fruit flies everywhere, overpriced tourist trap.

Service was good, the food wasn’t that good. My boyfriends steak was perfect, but the spätzle and veggies were a bit limp. My German sausage was good, but my spätzle was less than desirable as well. The prices are what you would pay for in a tourist town. I will say, their German chocolate cake is pretty good. Overall not a bad experience, but we aren’t likely to go back.

The S/O and I headed to Leavenworth for a daytrip and arrived there around lunch time. I figured we were in a «German» town, so I wanted schnitzel. We walked along the street, reading menus until we found a restaurant that had the schnitzel I wanted and food that she wanted. Maybe we should have kept looking… The schnitzel was rather bland, which was hugely disappointing. I had such high hopes, but that’s life. The German potatoes weren’t bad, but the starch really shouldn’t be the high point of the meal, right?

Not impress by the food. The food warmer is a microwave that makes the bread difficult. Food is very bland and And the execution for the food is not well. Was disappointed with the food, period. But the service was nice. And honestly if they fixed their food, I will comeback. For now, no.

Eating here is a family tradition — second generation. Know this — we don’t come for the food. It’s mediocre at best and pretty expensive. Entrees step up to the 20.00 mark and you don’t get anything special. They recently redecorated. It would have been great if they had hit the menu, too. But on a snowy day around six o’clock? This is the place to stop for a beer — just for the atmosphere. We will keep coming back.

«Moderately priced German cuisine in the heart of Washington State Bavaria.» I have mixed feelings on my experience with this restaurant. The slow service definitely stood out during my visit. The Baren Haus is conveniently located in the corner of a busy intersection. This is a prime tourist traffic spot and may pose a parking challenge. The restaurant was half-full when we arrived and we were promptly seated at a long table. There was a long wait for our server to take our drink orders(approximately 20 minutes) and a longer wait time for our entrée orders. I opted for the Schntizel with spatzel and cabbage pickles. We were served house bread and butter and offered refills on our soda. Our entrées arrived within 15 minutes. The schnitzel was rather soggy and bland. The red cabbage was tasty and spatzel had a nice bite to it. Getting our check took a little more time and our server was barely present. Overall, I would like to return this restaurant and give it another try. I will update this review once I’ve revisited this establishment.

Low quality meat and crappy service. It has been a while since I walked out of a place with half the food on my plate and no tip with the check. All that the kid who waited on us did was bitch about working and mumble under his breath a lot. This is such a good location and someone should open a restaurant there.

My husband and I ate at this place on February 22, 2014. The food was very good, but that’s about all. The service was mediocre at best. After getting our food, no one checked on us until we were about finished. When the server brought the check, I told him how much I liked the food and that it’s been a long time since I’ve had it. All he said was«we take Visa, MasterCard and cash». No interaction at all and doesn’t know what a smile is. When I paid the check, I noticed the price on my Jagerschnitzel was wrong. In the menu, it’s listed at $ 17.95 and on the check, it was $ 18.95. The server told me it was a «town tax», but my husbands meal didn’t have anything added to it. There was nothing done about this and I told him we would never go back there. No where in the menu is anything about any«town tax». If there is such a tax, it shouldn’t be built into the price on the ticket. The price on the menu should be exactly what’s on the ticket.
