Papa Chen China Diner

We ordered from papa chen’s last night and were not impressed. From the lo mein, to the egg rolls, wonton, nothing had seasoning and tasted very bland. They are okay priced and have free delivery, but from all the good reviews, we expected better.

To start I have to echo Nick O. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Food came out fast and was fresh. The small place is decorated very attractively. The egg roll was good.
This rating isn’t really fair to the restaurant because if you’ve read my other Chinese reviews you know I love General Tso’s Chicken but I’m VERY picky about it. It’s done many ways. I always order it at a new Chinese restaurant to find out if they do it my way. Their sauce was excellent but it turned out they don’t do the chicken my way so it wasn’t a high point for me. My companion ordered the stir-​fried green beans. He reported they were good but not the best.
I really wanted to give a better rating as I liked the staff and the ambiance. I had decided if no one else had reviewed them I wouldn’t post mine. They have gotten several good reviews and I suspect if we had ordered other dishes we’d feel the same.
I urge you to give them a try.

I must say if nothing else the place is impressive. The owners actually cook the food!
I ordered won ton soup, egg roll and generals chicken.
The soup was really good and they didn’t scoop it out of a tub in the back. It was fresh and the wontons were some of the best I have ever had.
The egg rolls were sub par at best and for the size of them they weren’t worth the price, I’d say go ahead and skip these.
The Generals chicken was good I’d give it a 7 out of 10 and here’s why, the were a bit floury but the taste was good. I have definitely had better. The chicken came with a side of rice and I opted for the dollar upcharge for the fried rice. It was good they give you a pretty big potion so the dollar is well spent.
All in all the service was great and the food was decent. I will go back and try a different dish next time.

Came in on a Friday night to try it out. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Food came out fast and was extremely fresh. Orange chicken was flavorful with just a bit of spice. Pork Fried Rice is different from the usual Chinese take out but in a really good way. Beef in Garlic Sauce was full of fresh veggies. Prices are nice for the large portions they give you. Quiet little strip center location when you don’t feel like fighting the crowds around Clear Lake. We will be back.

I really like this place, they do the best Chinese food! The owners are very nice and the service is great.

Papa Chen, where have you been all my life??? This place is GREAT! The best lil Chinese diner I’ve been to in… maybe forever. They use all white meat chicken and the service is EXCELLENT! I will be a regular customer here for sure! I have already been here 3 times and every time I try something new they absolutely NAIL IT! Check it out — you won’t be disappointed!!!

Nice Little gem… Amazing food, the owners are really nice, great prices with big portions… I Highly recommend this restaurant.
