My first time getting my eyebrows threaded was by Smita(at least 10 – 12 years ago). Whether in East Lansing, or all the way in a major city like Phoenix, she is still the best at shaping and getting them all cleaned up… I never found anyone half as good in the Detroit metropolitan area, and it’s proven difficult in Arizona as well. Her cost is quite reasonable for the time and attention she spends on her customers.

My all time favorite. The staff are very friendly and know what they’re doing. Very accurate when it comes to time and appointments, I never have to wait when I walk in with an appointment. The prices are affordable too with a wide variety of services.

In my quest to find a hair salon in Lansing I made an appointment to get my hair cut and styled at Smita’s. I have thick natural African American hair so sometimes when I walk in a salon that has mainly Caucasian clientele the stylists look a little panicked and aren’t sure what to do with it. Not Ellie, she tamed my curls and had my hair straightened and styled all the while explaining what she was doing so I could touch it up later. I was charged $ 65 for a blow dry/flat iron /trim /curl, which I feel is really reasonable for how long she spent on my harder to manage hair. I really enjoyed my hairstyle afterwards and the salon was comfy and pleasant. Smita also does a really good job on eyebrow threading which I will probably be making an appointment for soon.

Smita’s is an amazing place to go for eyebrow threading! I’ve used every type of hair removal process and have gone to numerous places around the greater Lansing area, and believe me this is the best! Very quick, gets every little hair, and my eyebrows are shaped perfectly every time I go! Highly recomended!

I went to Smita’s on a girl’s(who I saw at the bar with a killer haircut and colour) recommendation. The girl had similar hair to mine, tightly curled, so I figured if they could do her do, they could do mine. Just to make sure, I dropped in first to see if they had experience in handling natural black hair with a pair of scissors, and not clippers. My first experience with Smita’s was kind of unpleasant. The girl who would be cutting my hair, Olivia, seemed nice, but a little apprehensive and tangling with these curls. I wasn’t necessarily impressed by Smita’s attitude — she acted as if I was dropping in as a walk-in and was infringing on her time(although there is a sign out front that says walk-ins are welcome). I told them that I didn’t need an appointment that day, and that I just wanted to check with them first to see if they could do my hair. I ended up making an appointment for Wednesday for 5:15 and Olivia said it would take 30 – 35 minutes. I laughed under my breath as Olivia had never tangled with MY hair before… After some serious combing and detangling, Olivia worked through my hair and gave me a really decent haircut. The ends are smooth and not split anymore and overall my fro looks neater and tighter. I’m very much impressed. On top of that, Smita gave me a sample of a silk oil to use on my hair and Olivia gave me a jar of Aveda Brilliant, which I had asked her about earlier during the haircut. I wanted to know if she knew of any comparable products because it is $ 18 for 2 oz of Brilliant — too much money when you’re on a budget. Olivia stated that she never uses hers and gave it to me as a freebie. With all that said, and all the trouble Olivia went through with my hair, the haircut was only $ 16. That’s awesome. I tipped her nicely for doing a great job and for the Brilliant and Olivia has hereby earned status as my new stylist when it comes to cutting. I think I might try letting her press it for Crystal’s wedding. Oh and Smita does threading, so I am going to try that the next time my eyebrows need to be waxed.
