L’anse Motel & Suites

The owner didn’t have our reservation.
The doorknob on room 18 was stripped.
The owner had an attitude. (Bad)
The fridge wasn’t working.
The shower rod came down easily but putting it back up was a challenge I didn’t care for at midnight.
The room was clean. +
Beds were a bit worn but ok comfy wise. +
The A/​C worked but was a bit noisy.
This place is just to sleep & shower & go!
It’s a dive motel. Old. Out dated everything.
$ 66 two queens, yeah, you save some $$$

This is a fine motel for a night or two. When you go vacationing in the U.P., especially is you’re away from the larger cities, finding a place to stay can be a challenge. Old-​style motels are the rule more than the exception, and the L’anse Motel & Suites is one of the traditional old motels.
This Mom & Pop operation is a retro motel from the days before franchise giants. In this motel, like many, Mom & Pop retire early for the night. If you’re not in early, you miss little things, like talking to the owner and the password to their WiFi.
Not to worry, if you have a reservation, you’ll find your room key waiting for you at the office. (You’ll need a flashlight or a flashlight app if you’re a techie.) If you don’t have a reservation, you’re probably going to have to go on to Houghton because L’Anse rolls up its sidewalks about 10 PM.
The rooms are comfortable, although it was cold in Da Yoop July 2013 and the heat was off for the season. Brrrr! There are no frills, don’t expect a refrigerator or microwave, not even a hair dryer. The plumbing is noisy and the bathroom is… cozy.
Despite the shortcomings, the motel is clean, attractive, and a good value for the rate.
Oh, if you’re running late? Watch carefully. The lights will be off and the sign will be dark. Look for the County Sheriff post, if you’re headed west and see the Sheriff Post, you’ve gone past the motel. Turn around and go back, the motel is the next driveway past the Sheriff Post.
