Entirely deserving of all the rave reviews. I had the sausage gravy over eggs and potatoes; I asked for more gravy to enjoy it more fully. My companion had the Hilltopper with cinnamon swirl toast(as did I) and then surreptitiously bought a cinnamon roll the size of a loaf of banana bread. This place is a great reason to return to the Upper Peninsula again and again.

My family and I have driven 45 miles many times just to eat at this restaurant since they supposedly serve breakfast all day. Sadly, last Sunday will be our last trip there. We arrived around 1:30 and sat down. I was anticipating having the steak and eggs since we set out for the drive down. I have many food sensitivities and their steak and eggs is one of the items I can eat without issue. However, the waitress informed us as I was ordering that no breakfast(even the ones with timers which indicates they are served at all times) would be served do to the restaurant being what they considered busy. The place was a little over half full and most people were already eating. I was livid!!! The waitress did not try to give us exceptional service to make up for the lazy cooks. I had to hunt down a server to have my husband’s soda refilled. She asked us how everything was while walking by not even pausing at the table. I was looking around for the owner or manager who has been there during our other visits. Not surprisingly she was nowhere to be found. We quickly understood why the cooks were pulling their crap and why the service was disgraceful. We have enjoyed our visits in the past, but I cannot enjoy myself at a restaurant when clearly the staff just doesn’t care about the business they are working for.

The cinnamon rolls truly are as good as advertised. They are definitely big enough for 2 – 3 people. The staff is very friendly and helpful. A nice, clean restaurant. I was a bit disappointed with the fresh fruit. The waitress said it was all cut and placed in the fridge mixed together. It had a bit of a fruit cocktail taste. My daughter had the cinnamon roll French toast. It had a cream cheese filling. I think the plain cinnamon roll was the much better bet.

Ordered a cinnamon roll and the lumberjack breakfast and split both with my wife. Both were great and we had leftovers! Great place to stop on your way to the Keweenaw!

I haven’t eaten here for years and stopped in with my grandma, who wanted the salad bar. The salad bar was ok, but the rest came straight from the Reinhart Food Service truck. I ordered the roast pork dinner with«real mashed potatoes,» as the menu clearly stated. I guess they were«real» at some point before being dehydrated in a factory and rehydrated in the kitchen. The so-called«roast pork» was slices of preformed pork-like substance reheated in a microwave. The gravy came from a glass jar. The whole mess came atop a salty Stove-Top Stuffing rip-off. On second thought, maybe the dinner came frozen on a plastic tray and was microwaved in it’s packaging before making it’s way to the serving plate, like a TV dinner. That was one expensive TV dinner. The two stars(as opposed to one star) are for the friendly waiter and the large puffy dinner roll, which may have been made there.

While this place is known for their world famous sweet roll, the rest of the food is just as good, if not better Like most family restaurants, their breakfast outdoes their lunch/dinner menu, but that’s just because their breakfast menu is REALLY good For dinner, I would highly recommend their ribs or fried chicken. For breakfast, I would recommend showing up on Sunday for their breakfast brunch

Went here for breakfast. Everything from the bacon to the French toast was well overdone. The service was a bit hawkish, staring at tables. The atmosphere was drab, tired, and worn down just like the staff and patrons of this place. I left feeling sad and sick. I hope to not return.

The rolls are infamous, but don’t miss a chance to sit down and have a down home breakfast. The donuts are a close second to the rolls!

Had less than one hour between meetings for dinner. Top rating because of execution. Very friendly waitperson, fresh salad bar items, incredibly good dinner roll, and good white Chili although I would have preferred a bit more spice. It all just worked within 45 mins without feeling rushed. That’s all you can ask.

Ate here three times in two days. Had lunch, then dinner and then breakfast. I was with a crowd of coworkers for each meal and everyone was very happy with their meals. I had the ultimate grilled cheese for lunch with soup. Both were awesome. For dinner I had the fish basket, it was okay, I wouldn’t pick it again. For breakfast I had the stuffed french toast that is made from their cinnamon rolls. It was amazing. I had bread pudding which is made from the cinnamon rolls as well and it was good, I’ve had better. Now, I also stopped on the way out of town as did ally coworkers and we all bought multiple cinnamon rolls. These turned out to be the BEST cinnamon rolls I have ever had. I have had many cinnamon rolls from many places and these are amazing. And they are HUGE.

The Hilltop is a very nice family restaurant with fresh, homemade food and cordial service. My family had a variety of soups, some items from a decent-sized salad bar, the French dip sandwich(very good!), fish and chips(good, but not spectacular) and enormous, fresh-baked dinner rolls. We purchased one cinnamon roll as big as my kids’ heads for dessert later. The variety on the menu was surprising, considering the location and much of the food is made in-house, which is quite good. I’d love to try their breakfast sometime!

Pretty good food. Servers were all very friendly. As I’m sure you’ve noticed reading through the information on this restaurant, they have cinnamon rolls :) I just returned from dinner and they have a decent salad bar and very good soup. Rolls served with dinner are really good — better than even some of the fanciest restaurants I’ve been to. Cinnamon rolls look good and I’m heading back in the morning to try some«sweet roll french toast». All in all, this is a great place to try out. Their menu has plenty to offer, service is great, food is good, and there’s big cinnamon rolls. You can’t lose!

Came here to eat dinner and grab a cinnamon roll. My family thought the food was fine. The dinner rolls are large as well. I personally felt like the staff, while pleasant, seemed bored. We thought the cinnamon rolls were so good that we stopped by again on the way back through.

Food was good they were understaffed the waitresses were seating people and had full sections. I ordered the northerner and really enjoyed the sausage gravy they make for the biscuits and gravy. The hashbrowns were also yummy. We did not get a cinnamon roll there but they looked good so we bought two to bring home for our families. My husband really liked his stuffed trench toast and ate all of it! Good place to get breakfast in the area. The breakfast buffet they had was a really great price of $ 7.99 for all you can eat. They also had their worlds largest sweet rolls available on the buffet. When we got home we tried the cinnamon roll and it was fabulous! Stop and pick up the largest sweet roll to take home with you and enjoy… we did!

Went hoping for local fare. Highly recommended for pasties(pronounced like nasties) Disappointed– no pasties– only frozen for sale :-(… little by way of any local fish and this city is located on a lake. All other food was good, though. Homemade breads & desserts are great. Know for oversized cinnamon rolls– but didn’t order one.

I’d go so far as to say Hilltop is THE restaurant for all of Baraga County. They have roadside signs promoting the world’s largest cinnamon roll, and indeed it is enough to feed 2 – 3 people, or 1 person who wants a full day’s caloric intake in a single sitting. Besides the famous rolls, they have a full menu of traditional sit-down restaurant fare. The steak-n-potato stuff, with salads, soups and such. Good sign for a restaurant is the number of old people dining there. Certainly applies to this place since the majority of diners I’ve seen are over 60. After a day on the Keweenaw Peninsula, come on back to L’anse and have dinner here.
