This place was pretty good and the sausages were definitely flavored well. We ordered the hungarian spiced and bratwurst sandwiches and wasn’t that impressed. Although the sausages were tasty they weren’t warmed much and the buns they were served on were not warmed at all. The only condiment included was mustard… unless you consider the teensy 1⁄8 of a spear pickle, which isn’t what I consider what the menu calls a pickle spear. I would like the food to be warmer plus to have some saurkraut or something else to provide moisture on the sandwich. I’ll stay with Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad for this type of food since they have dressings to accompany their food if eaten at the restaurant/deli.

Ok, you ask how can I give this place 5 stars? Simple. These are the best bratwurst sausages I have had since I lived in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany. The bread is pretty darn good too. Asked for 2 pounds, 1 kilo, and took 6 sausages. Ok, I will take some bread too. I have some Bitburger already at home. Went home, cooked them right up in a cast iron skillet at medium heat. Nice and dark brown on all side. Put them on the bread, added my Curry(Catsup) Sauce, had a nice cold Bitburger Beir. Life was good. These are the moment you live for. All the planets were aligned. At peace with the world. I have not seen the menu. If they serve Jaeger Schnitzel mit Pommes Frites I will be oh, so happy. This is a breaded piece of the Sirloin Cut of pork(Schnitzel), breaded and fried. Then covered in a bacon-mushroom gravy(Jaeger Sauce) that I have put on the French Fries(Pommes Frites) as well. Yes, yes, yes, a 32 oz beir must go along with it.

First visit today and loved everything about it. Very clean well kept place. Had super service From LISA that took my order and brought it to my table. Very great Customer service skills. Had the Spicy Sausage plate with potato salad and iced tea. Loved the way they made the Potato salad different style from anything I have had before but was awesome. The spicy sausage was super along with the German Mustard and the tea was very refreshing. Great flavor LISA however was the super star to me, her personality, checking on her customer often sold me and will be back

I went here after hearing that this restaurant was the one who provided the food for the El Cajon oktoberfest. Everything is good, I am anticipating trying the schnitzel. I especially like the desserts, marzipan«potatoes» are worth the drive to Lakeside

It’s only through the power of Unilocal we discover these little hidden jewels. If not for Unilocal I’d never would have known about or visited Sausage & More(S&M). And I must first place credit where it belongs with Unilocal Elite Walter K. Walter’s well written review(earned ROTD!) had me anxious to visit. Walter who’s a German native said that S&M provides the finest in authentic German style meats and cheeses. Who am I to question the word of a native German! So yesterday afternoon my wife and I drove to Lakeside to visit S&M. OK, don’t judge S&M by its location which is a dirty strip mall with a smoke shop and seedy bar. Once inside we felt comfortable with our decision. S&M is relatively small with a deli counter and a few tables. Oh, but looking in the deli case we were seeing very appealing meats and cheeses. We placed our order«to go» and chose three sausages(forgot their exact names): — A veal sausage. OMG, this one blew us away with its wonderful, juicy flavor! — A smoked sausage. This was also delicious and was our second favorite. — A spicy sausage. We found it too spicy to eat by itself as a meal. We intend to mix it into pasta and soups. Note all these sausage are pre-cooked. You simply take them home and warm them. We also picked up a small container of their sauerkraut. I would have passed on this because typically I’m not a fan of sauerkraut. My wife insisted and I’m now glad that she did. S&M sauerkraut is delicious by itself or accompanying the sausages. Oh yeah, one final note that attests to the deliciousness of S&M meats. For our home dinner we brought out a variety of mustards to accompany the sausages. The meats were so delicious we never added mustard! We look forward to many return visits to S&M and trying more tasty meats and cheeses!

Foodies, It’s worth the drive. A gem in Lakeside. I’m surprised it doesn’t have more reviews. Very Authentic. The best roast beef sandwich I’ve ever had. Schnitzel lunch special was great! Very reasonable. Hubby loved his Polish sausage. The pickles are on the sweet side and really tasty. Small place… I’m looking forward to trying the Friday night dinner from 5 – 8 next time. The«Bee sting» dessert was fresh and a nice portion.

Was so excited to go here with my mom(from Switzerland) we have been looking for somewhere to get real German Brats, weiners, snitzel, etc. Used to go to Sausage King. The owner was nice, but the older German waitress was SORUDE!!! She treated us like a piece of dirt. She was so un-friendly — the food was good, but definitely had better. So disappointed — will never go back!!!

Authentic. That’s the way my wife, a German, describes this place. She had a pleasant conversation(in German) with the owner. It’s a litle piece of Germany in Lakeside. Who knew ?? Authentic. That’s also the way she described our meal, the yeagerschnitzel and potato salad combo. I liked the crusty yet tender schnitzel, and so did she. Miraculously, she also liked the potato salad. She generally doesn’t like it at most restaurants. As for me, heck, I thought everything was very delicious, since I’m a born and raised in America omnivore. The portions were generous for our lunch meals, and we were satiated. The schnitzel meal was about $ 9(the daily special), if memory serves me. Since it’s also a deli, or mainly a deli, there are very interesting sausages, meats and cheeses available. Also, an eclectic selection of soft drinks and candies from Germany. Beers, too. Give it a try. Schnell !

Did not eat here, but came by to purchase & check out a few of their sausages. I picked up some hot polish, smoked bratwurst & bockwurst. All were very good & the spicy polish was indeed very spicy, which I liked. The woman helping me was very nice. The interior of the place is not large but has a quaint old European feel in its décor. Will definitely come back when I have a craving for Euro-German influenced sausages.

Growing up in Chicago I’ve had the opportunity to have some pretty darn good German food. What a delight to find this little slice of Bavaria right here in Lakeside. I really enjoyed everything from the food down to the hospitality. Thanks.

I was a customer of the Sausage King for fifteen years and was saddened when the owner Manfred«Fred» Spenner passed away. Recently I learned about Sausage & More and today I decided to drive over to give them a try. I recognized the lady working the deli counter right away from Sausage King days when she used to work there, and she said she recognized me too. I also spoke briefly to the friendly proprietor who also used to work at the Sausage King. All this conversation took place in German, so it reminded me of the old days. While we were talking two customers walked in, first an elderly lady, and then an older gentleman who also spoke German. A good sign! Always happy to speak my native language. Now for the important part, the sausages. I decided to buy Geräucherte Bratwurst(Smoked pre-cooked Bratwurst) and Leberkäse(According to wikipedia this is: corned beef, pork, bacon and onions and is made by grinding the ingredients very finely and then baking it as a loaf in a bread pan until it has a crunchy brown crust.) My friends used to love Leberkäse which I BBQ to heat it up and give it grill marks,(it’s already cooked). They’d say«Hey Walter, can you make us BBQ’d Bologna». Anyway, all I had to do was to heat up the grill and heat up the meats and give it the proverbial grill marks. The Bratwurst was quite good, fresh with a clean taste, not too fatty, juicy, but it could have had more herbs and spice. The Leberkäse was also good, fresh with that classic Bavarian Recipe, where you know it’s really right, but you really don’t know what’s in it, it’s all ground up so fine. I am happy to report these are real German Style meats and not some imitation. The only part I don’t like is that they are not made in-house like they made at the Sausage King or how they make it at Tip Top Meats. Also sadly, they do not have the hard rolls they had at the Sausage King. FYI: You eat Bratwurst with a hard roll and hot mustard. As for the Deli /Restaurant, they’ve made a nice effort. I don’t really like the strip mall or the area very well, but they’re trying hard, they’re friendly and they have the German Meats! I will continue to add to this review with subsequent visits. Meanwhile I can recommend Sausage & More highly and wish the proprietors Alles Gute und Viel Glück!

I was in the area and wanted to try something different. Seen this place and decided to give it a try. I ordered the bratwurst lunch plate for $ 4.95 and a can of soda. Not bad price for a filling lunch. The bratwurst was nice and juicy came on a soft fresh bun with a side of potato salad which was excellent and a pickle Food was fresh the place was clean and the lady was very nice. If your looking for something new and delicious I would recommend you come visit you won’t be disappointed. They also have fresh sausage to take home and cook on the grill. Great job guys I’m sure you be seeing me more often.

Pretty good place. Came here for lunch with a friend. I had a smoked bratwurst plate and he had a pastrami sandwich. We both had the homemade German potato salad and I bought a German pretzel for later. The brat had bite! The potato salad was delicious and not like most. The place was a bit on the warm side. The pretzel was just okay. I’d like to bring my wife here. I’m sure she’ll like it.

Been trying forever since Christel opened this up but now that it’s open later on Fridays and Saturdays, Friday night it was! It was every bit as quaint as it needed to be with German ambience just as the website photos show. It didn’t stop there though as the food was just as good eating it as it looked in all the photos, almost couldn’t make up my mind(and so was the problem with all in my party) as what to order. The Rouladen was awesome! You can tell that other guests found this restaurant just as wonderful, «like being with family» as we seemed to strike up conversations freely with one another. And, don’t leave without getting a dessert either, I suggest the Marzipan! We’ll be back soon, maybe see you there?
