It’s your basic petting farm area shoved in the back of Animal Kingdom. The animals here are completely desensitized to people petting them. I’ve been a dozen times or so and it’s hit or miss if the animals are just chilling out for you to pet or they’re back in their protected areas recovering from sensory overload. They have a nice hand-washing station as you leave.

I am not a fan of petting zoos in general, but this one was particularly bad. Located outside of the Conservation Station, this petting zoo has a most unfortunate name. I wish they would have just called it a petting zoo as «Affection Section» sounds like something that most certainly does not belong at Disney. It was, however, quite accurate. Once inside the petting area, there were hoards of children packing brushes chasing all manner of hoofed beasts. That’s right, they had brushes. Apparently the affection part of the name involves small children brushing frightened animals. The animals all appeared to have received their fair share of affection and were running towards roped off pens where affection was not allowed. That didn’t stop many of the kids from trying which made it more difficult for me when I decided to be a responsible parent. You see, if I see a sign that says«no petting in this section», I try and make sure my kids follow those rules. When everyone else doesn’t, that means my kid hates me. So thanks, you rule breaking morons. I will give it to Disney. They did have a massive hand washing station as you exited the petting area. I liked knowing that my kids would not have poop on them the rest of the day. I suggest skipping this attraction.

The animals seem overpetted here. All but one or two goats were in their pens(you aren’t allowed to pet or brush them when they are inside the pens). I’d probably skip this attraction next time.

The Affection Section is outside of the Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. It’s a super clean petting zoo in which the animals are treated and taken care of much better then your usual carnival petting zoo. You can get some feed for the animals and interact with them a bit. Sheeps and goats are the main animals in this area, but both are not your standard sheeps & goats… both were near extinction when Disney took them on. Disney~heart. I’m not a fan of petting zoos in general but this one is A-OK as Disney goes above and beyond in caring for their animals. Also, they have a ton of hand sanitizer and a washing station to wash up post animal petting.

This is a really nice area for kids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. it’s Disney’s version of a petting zoo, which means the area is kept clean. The animals are also kept clean, are domesticated, and are taken care of very well. It also offers a nice shaded area and is a good place for parents to get a rest while their kids enjoy the animals. Some of the animals to interact with are llamas(how cool is that), sheep, and goats. You’ll also be able to interact with other critters running around. In addition to petting, you can also hand feed the animals. It’s definitely a nice break and if you’ve got a little one who is being moody, this may be a good place to take them. Interacting with the animals may cheer them up a bit so you can carry on with your day.
