Good food, though it’s only open seasonally. I don’t the quality of the hot dogs is what it used to be, but still tasty. The frosty mug root beer is a nice treat, and the Texas Burger is killer.

Place is decent, not all the hype that people make it out to be. Good root beer, decent chili dogs. No worse, no better

Call me old fashioned but I like this place. I like the sweet coney dog sauce and the root beer. My wife likes the breaded tenderloins. Just a bit of old USA.

HAVEAGAIN: The root beer is very good. NOTHAVEAGAIN: The coney dog was good for a light lunch, but not good enough to order again on my infrequent trips. I’ve only had one coney dog here and it was 20 years ago. But I well remember it and really wanted to come back, which I did today. Maybe my tastes have change, but it was good. NEXTTIME: I’ll order a burger and root beer float!

I don’t see why people rave about this place. Probably because it’s local. They sell OK chili dogs, root beer, and burgers. The food tastes like amusement park quality dogs, and burgers. I don’t recommend their fries, though.

What a fantastic place! Quick service, awesome root beer and all the food is ridiculously cheap! My only complaint is they only took cash.

Cute ambinance, its like an old drive in vibe. The food is decent, nothing to write home about. On game day the boiler maker specials are half off. You can get a burger, fries, and cole slaw for less than $ 4.

The servers were very friendly and quick. The food was not as great as I was hoping. I’ve definitely had better chili dogs. The french fries were unsalted and tasted just like the kind that you get out of the freezer section of the grocery store. The root beer, however, was GREAT! Probably some of the best I have had. Order a large and they serve it in a frosty glass mug. Overall, I might stop by again on a summer night, but only for a root beer float.

This place is pretty cool. It’s like a Sonic drive-in but better. For the longest time, they didn’t accept credit cards so I didn’t eat there that often. The hot dogs are pretty good and so are the sandwiches. However, the must get item is the root beer float. This thing was great. The root beer alone was pretty dang good, but adding their ice cream to it made it delicious. The prices are fairly reasonable and the service has always been good. Furthermore, I have never had an issue with any of the items I’ve ordered. I would highly recommend coming here on a nice summer evening and enjoying a quick dinner with a root beer float to top it off.

Dog-N-Suds used to be a large chain of drive-ins. They’ve but a few locations remaining, but have had some recent expansion into West Lafayette and Kokomo. For some reason, this is among the few places that might be on a Lafayette bucket list. With that said, I can see why people go for the place, but to me it’s so-so. Not bad, but it’s hard to work myself up for what seems to be standard fare. The service is fine, the food is decent and reasonably priced, but that’s about it. I suppose the nostalgia of the place speaks for something, but it’s hard to get excited about eating in my automobile somehow being nostalgic. Also, they close for the winter, with their lot being used in December for Christmas trees. That’s probably a good idea given the weather and the accommodations. It’s fine, but not a place that I can work up a lot of enthusiasm for.

It’s a good place for what it serves. Personally, I don’t understand the hype about coney cheese dogs. It’s good to have once a while, but not all the time. They are open seasonally, basically just not during the winter. The first day they open in the spring, it’s super packed! Cops are there to direct service and they have to turn down costumers sometimes. During the summer they have a really good orange cream soda float, but that is only available for roughly a month, so take advantage!

The Boilermaker is the best burger in town(93.7% of time); the fries are tied with Culver’s as the best in town; the root beer is definitely #1 even though XXX is pretty darn good; and the cole slaw is incredible! So, yah, I like this place!

Try as I might, I can’t think of anything bad to write about Dog-N-Suds. The Boilermaker(named for Purdue Boilermakers!) is one of my favorite burgers of all time. The frosted mug of root beer is to die for. Prices are pretty comparable to other fast food chains. I love the old fashioned aspect of the drive-in and the car hops are always cheerful and give good service. Everything is good here and I sure do miss it when they close for the season.

I normally wouldn’t advocate for a chain over a local legend, but this basically is an awful Sonic. A forced folkisness betrayed by IRS-level bureaucracy. Don’t get huffy if I can’t figure out your car side terminals. Don’t get frustrated when what I ordered doesn’t match what you heard through your antiquated audio. And 30 cents for ranch? Jeeeeebus

TRYTHISROOTBEER. I have converted many root beer haters to lovers because of this place. The food is fine, but come for a large glass of root beer(the large comes in a frosted mug). For food, I usually get the Burger with coney sauce.

I have been to this place several times. The food was pretty good but my favorite thing was the Root beer. Probably the best Root beer I have ever had. The service was good. Its an old school drive in restaurant. Not something I am use to, But it does bring the cool factor up a notch. So in short, this is a grade A place to experience that old Americana feeling of a bygone era.

I first went to the Dog-N-Suds as a kid in the 60’s, as a high school student in the 70’s, as a Purdue student in the 80’s. This place is a living monument to drive in dining. I currently live in Chicago and anytime I am in the Lafayette area, I have to stop in. Nowhere else can I get a frosty glass mug of root beer with a tenderloin sandwich, like the ones they serve. The service is good and their prices are great. What more could you ask for?
