The restaurant is beautiful. It has such an upscale rustic feel. The waiters and the owner are so sweet. The food is okay for the prices(which are very pricey)

The peanut butter stuffed, french toast, with caramelized bananas was some of the best french toast i have ever had! Hands down! And, their mocha was also very delicious.

My wife and I were looking forward to trying this place out and came out quite disappointed. The place is quirky with a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere inside. There was a very impressive outdoor area as well but it was too cold to enjoy on a cool February night. The food itself was fine. My wife had the chicken and mashed potatoes. She said that while the flavor was good it came out cold(more on this later). I ordered the shrimp tacos. Not being able to eat egg I specifically asked the server if the item came with exclusively rice and beans as described on the menu. She agreed and it came out with cole slaw directly on the taco. I apologized for the inconvenience but asked for another plate. It came out about 15 minutes later, well after my wife had finished with all sorts of mayonnaise on the taco when I specifically asked for plain tacos. I was 0-for-2 and decided to leave hungry. The server did not adjust the bill, did not apologize for the mix up, and took an eternity to bring our bill. Whether it was to bring our menus, our drink order, or food services was preposterously slow all night, probably explaining why my wife’s chicken was very cool. There was a large group seated near us who was often complaining amongst themselves about the snail-like service as well. With all the wonderful establishments nearby we will certainly not return.

This has been comfort food for me now. Me and my wife drop by here almost every sunday after church. Our day would not be complete without it. Our favorites are: eggs benedict — the best we tried so far and visit a lot of brunch places. You can’t go wrong with either the peanut butter or mascorpone french toast. Lastly, bottomless mimosa’s on weekends. Cheers!

Came here last night to celebrate my 40th birthday with my husband and baby girl. Unfortunately, after a very hectic and busy work day we were late(20 mins) for our reservation. We were very apologetic and came in knowing that we might have to wait for a table. The gray haired host said our table was still on reserve and we were happy and grateful. However, as we were settling into our seats and I was putting my baby in the high chair, the host/owner proceeded to scold me(not my husband or in any non-specific direction) how rude it was of us to not give a courtesy call that we were running late and if we chose to dine there again with a reservation, we would need to show more courtesy and call if we were running late. Then he turned and walked away. Yes, we were late. Yes we were sorry and apologetic. But a). There was no one waiting for a table. b). There were 3 empty tables at first glance and c). Is this how you treat patrons to your establishment? The food was very good and if not for this experience we would probably return. However, the Bay Area has plenty of other delicious and friendly restaurants(like Cooperage across the street) and the likelihood that we will be returning to American Kitchen is somewhere in the neighborhood of none.

My wife and I have eaten here twice. Once for breakfast and the other for lunch. Very welcoming crew and the ambiance is comforting. The food was amazing, and the servings were more than fair for the price. Will is one of the servers there and he is very knowledgeable about the menu. He offers great suggestions and knows his pairings with drinks. Will was very attentive and professional. He recommended we come on the weekends for BOTTOMLESSMIMOSAS.

Went here for the first time for lunch… Absolutely amazing. Love the outside patio where I enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich… Ok seriously to die for! Would highly recommend it. Great service too! I have been looking for a place like this ever since I moved back from Texas and this hit the spot. The sweet potatoes were great too. We will be coming back!

I just love the place. Thank you, Unilocal!I was looking for a new place to try in Lafayette and found AK on Unilocal. First and foremost, the place is so cute and charming. I love the rustic feel and the staff is so sweet and informative. They are so helpful when you are indecisive of what to order. On our first visit, we ordered the AK mac n cheese, which I highly suggest you try. You can even add to your mac n cheese. There’s a Wednesday mac n cheese menu, but you can apply any of those twists any day. I ordered the mascarpone stuffed French toast with a side of bacon and my boyfriend ordered the cowgirl. This was plenty of food for both of us. Our 2nd visit, we both ordered mac n cheese, the breakfast mac and truffle mac. Both were so good. Our waitress even suggested we get the salted caramel dessert. I can’t remember what it was called, but it was really good and a nice break to all the mac. Definitely a good spot to try out or become a regular at. :)

I’m torn. I’d like to give them a 3 ½ star. We went on Monday(MLK) at noon looking for brunch, and with our luck they serve breakfast until 3p. There was a 20 minute wait, no problem. There was however, an unusual stench, which we hoped would go away.(Kinda made my stomach turn). After we were seated, I checked-in on Unilocal and received a free speciality coffee, so I ordered a latte. YUM! We ordered the steak omelet(without the steak), Bennie with ham, veggie and bacon omelet and an order of pancakes for the table. Our food was very good, especially the pancakes, it was light and fluffy, and not too sweet! I must say mid-way through our meal a very loud and obnoxious sound appeared, it was a disposal or grinding like sound, just awful. And it lasted several minutes. Once it stopped we began smelling that weird stench again all throughout the restaurant. It was a unfavorable mushroom or truffle smell, hard to pinpoint. But It was bad and didn’t go away. Then, once again that loud and obnoxious sound started, it was a bit frustrating. This was my first time here, and I know the owners have a few other restaurants in the area that are good, so I wanted to check it out. The atmosphere is very cozy, a farm like or country style feel and décor, with outside seating and fire-pit. So cute! There is parking all around, except for behind the building, which is reserved for staff/employees. With the exception of the bad stench and annoying sound, the food and service was good. I don’t want to take away from the good food, however, the weird smell in the restaurant made for an unsettling feeling in my stomach, unfortunately. :( I would like to come back and try their burgers, which looked great on the menu. Overall, it was a not so good experience, but food and service was good. I’ll come back again assuming there’s no more bad/weird smell.

Today was the second time I’ve been here for brunch and I enjoyed it this morning just as much as the first time! This is definitely my go-to brunch spot with out of town visitors. This morning I came with a girlfriend visiting from AZ. We were greeted with a warm welcome from a man who showed us to the table,(assuming the owner?). Then our wonderful waiter came right over and took care of us from there. Can’t remember his name but is also a hairdresser. I ordered the Broken Oats and Farro, same as what I ordered my first time around. I usually never order the same thing twice at a new restaurant but it was soo delicious the first time, I had to have it again. It’s the perfect breakfast on a cold and rainy day! My friend got the Eggs California with the hollandaise sauce on the side. She enjoyed hers as well. The décor in this restaurant is great! It’s a nice farmhouse vibe. And they have blankets available for chilly days. The patio is adorable with string lights covering it and can’t wait for the weather to warm up to start using it! Love this place; plan on returning many times :)

Service and atmosphere is great. Unfortunately the food did not deliver the same excellence. There could be more creativity and quality in the final product. Probably won’t come back unless a group wanted too.

I almost never write Unilocal reviews. I’m taking the time to write this one because I had a wonderful experience at American Kitchen. What’s more, it could have been a terrible experience if not for the fact that it was handled more than perfectly by the staff and owner. I won’t bore anyone with the details of the event as they’re unlikely to apply to anyone reading this, but suffice to say the staff is friendly and very professional. Atop the great staff and service, the food was delicious. My friend and I both had had a hard time deciding what to have as everything looked so good. We finally each settled on two different dishes and they were both fantastic. If you’re in Lafayette and trying to decide on a place for breakfast or lunch on a weekend, I could not recommend American Kitchen more strongly. Dog friendly patio too!

I love the ambiance of this more upscale diner. It’s very simple but feels like I’m in someone’s summer cottage near the beach. I loved my cobb salad and the presentation was really nice since it didn’t come out tossed already. I was surprised how delicious the chicken was… it actually tasted chicken-y and was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the grilled cheese and it was served on nice and thick soft slices of bread with lots of cheese. The employees were super friendly and welcoming. When we got up to leave every worker in the room looked up from what they were doing and said goodbye, it felt really welcoming.

Came here for breakfast with my daughter for the very first time, & strangely enough when we greeted one of the owners working as a host, he proceeded to bitch about the other partners in the biz… strange, but we didn’t let this deter us from enjoying the place & food.(Mind you this was our first time here, never met the guy) Our server was super friendly, very attentive & sweet. Although she did bitch to us about another couple in the other room, she was still very nice to us. We ordered the breakfast sandwich with potatoes & eggs benedicts + coffees. Sandwich was ok, looks good, but very bland — no flavor. Eggs Benedict were okay, again, no flavor, everything reminded us of hospital food, no salt, no pepper… just bleh. The breakfast potatoes were cold — room temperature. Best way to describe this is… If you baked roasted potatoes at home for lunch or dinner, then you leave them overnight on your kitchen counter, with too much oil, they get a bit dehydrated & oily &HARD… THAT is exactly what those were. We ordered soy lattes, guess what? The milk was old & lumpy. Lumps in soy milk… Really? I dunno what else to say. Not worth it. Two stars for the sweet server.

This review is long overdue but now I’ve been here 3 times and it’s been great EVERY time. 1st trip: The bf & I went, we asked questions and our server(who we later found out is a co-owner) was great. It was a Monday so it was«Burgers & Brews» night… obviously, that’s what I had. We tried the Sweet potato nachos to start and they were beyond yummy. Then, I went for the Lafayette Burger for my entrée(I mean, when in Rome, right?!) and it was amazing. Ate it ALL… but, admittedly, didn’t finish my side salad bc I wanted to save any extra room for dessert. The bf had the fish special and really liked it. Dessert was a cookie-wich(?) using cookies from a bakery a few doors down. This scored awesome points in my book. Recap: first trip was amazing! Trip 2: A gal friend & I went for dinner. Sat out on the front patio. I had the ribs that were on the menu as a special and she had the chicken«under-a-brick.» Trip 3: party of 3 and I went w/the Monster Burger(bc it was a Monday again) and it was bomb! I will most def be back!

Cute little place in Lafayette. Looks like a converted home. They do fresh juices which were delicious. Breakfast(huevos rancheros) was delicious. The service felt like(and could have been) the owners, it was very personal. Solid win.

Uh-mazing! Three of us had the bottomless mamosas, and the fourth had a glass of beat juice(she’s crazy and pregnant). Mamosas were good and strong. The beat juice was tasty too. The huevos rancheros were deliciousas was the corn beef hash. We also got pancakes which I’m pretty sure were laced with some kind of wonderful because I’ve been craving them all day. The bagel with lox was allegedly tasty, and I may have been able to speak to out had my friend been willing to share. Everyone was really friendly and super quick. Sit outside if you can, it’s beautiful.

Once a popular tea house, American Kitchen has transformed its ideal location into a casual stopover for comfort food. They have installed an outdoor patio complete with fire pit. The salads are large and fresh, the meat loaf was moist and tasted homemade. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits-six shrimp atop a bowl of warm grits. They missed the mark, though, with the salted caramel pudding. Served in a coffee cup with a side of salt, the pudding was incredibly salty, almost inedible. The servers are young and friendly, corkage is a reasonable $ 10. Give this establishment a few more months, and it will get its groove. Definitely could become a hang out.

Came here yesterday for the 1st time and didn’t have such a great experience. From the service to the food and environment not such a great enjoyment . I could start off by saying we came here with a coupe of us, because it was one of the few places around here with outside seating and we had a puppy with us and wanted to seat out side. Our server don’t remember his name he looked Latin and older, but gave very poor service . The server comes to take our orders we order drinks and appetizers. One of the appetizers we order was Mac and cheese. Asked if we could add bacon to it. And the server said yes we can but followed with a «we don’t do This all the time so if you come back you can’t ask for us to add bacon it’s slow right now so we can do it as a favor«Really !! What kind of a server says that. Very unprofessional. Could of re worded in to make it sound nicer at least . Incident number two with our server. After he brought out a few appetizers and drinks we didn’t have a menu because he has taken it and when he checked in with us I asked him if I could see the menu again because I wanted to order more food! Well 15−20mins goes by he is no where to be seen and I don’t get a menu. When he comes back he doesn’t even remember he forgot to bring me a menu so at that time I don’t even tell he forgot and I’m ready to leave. Wow a server who can’t even remember to bring a client a menu to look for more food . So the smoked wings were ok not amazing but not very bad but disappointing in size especially you get ten little baby wings and I mean baby. He should of told be for a guy my size they really isn’t a lot of meat on the bones. The fried were good I give them that at least. But the Mac and cheese was horrible. Had no flavor and tastes just so oily, the bacon on the top had the most flavor but the Mac and cheese was probably the worse I have had in a restaurant. The other dish that I guess came out good was the mussels i didn’t have any our friend ordered it.
