I’ve been coming to Imani for quite sometime now and I’m still always amazed of how great of a job she does on my locks. i love that she always washes my locks so throughly well that I myself couldn’t even wash it any better. Her new location is nestled in a quiet, comfortable, not so busy and plenty of parking, small plaza that isn’t that hard to find if you know your way up and around soledad mountain. I’m filipino and I’ve had my locks now for almost 8 years. One of the biggest problems I had were the loose hairs that didn’t get quite locked into the roots on top and on the back of my head where they always often come out and it looked really frizzy/messy. Well with her ‘Threading Technique’ it actually really helped my locks because now it lasts much much longer when I leave her place before my next appt. I would definitely recommend her work to anyone I know with locks. Thanks Imani for always doing a great job!

They’re called locks, not dreadlocks and like any other hair style they need love on occasion and Imani does an awesome job with ‘em! To my chagrin I must admit that I’ve been going to Imani for over a year without doing her the respect of writing a review on her skills. When I first moved to San Diego, finding someone who could care for my locks was a challenge. I tried another place that was an utter joke. Then someone at work recommended Imani and I said what the hell. She was my last resort. She was the last go at keeping my locks tight. Or else I was going to chop them off. 1 year+ later I still have my locks, they look awesome, have grown considerably and I am much more knowledgeable about caring for them. She charges $ 35 per hour for the locks. The technique she uses is the sister lock technique whereby she uses a tool to knit the hair into itself. This technique is far superior and more reliable than comb/gel techniques. You can swim, work out, wash your hair as much as you want and it won’t unravel providing your locks are mature enough. I know she handles other types of hair styles and types of hair(read that as ethnicities and textures). The woman at work whom used to get her hair done with Imani looked amazing and was a walking Testament to Imani’s skills. Imani’s salon is located in La Jolla and is very cool. Unlike some stylists she is generally punctual. If she’s late generally the job ran longer than expected or her client showed up late — more the latter than the former. Aside: Locks are an expression of individuality and can be paired with a lot of stereotypes about the person, but first and foremost it is about the individual. Just because a person has locks, it shouldn’t automatically be assumed that they smoke up or have poor hygeine. On the contrary, well maintained locks are an excercise in discpline to keep them clean and growing healthily.
