Mrs. Beas is a supposed southern cuisine establishment with Louisiana influence, however it falls very short of real«Louisiana Creole» flavors and spice and honestly I had a hard time believing the southern taste too! Being born and raised in the south and just recently making my way out to the West Coast, I had high hopes for this place after reading the Unilocal reviews and looking at the website. Although Chicken and Waffles isn’t as popular back home as it is on the west coast, we tried their version and a few other«home style» dishes to get a good experience for the place. Let me start by saying the staff is really the only reason why I give this place ANY stars. They are all very friendly and sociable and attentive to their guests which is nice anywhere you dine. We started out with the corn fritters as it was really the only actual southern influenced dish on the appetizer menu. And they really lacked seasoning and pizazz. They are basically cream corn balls fried in a thick flour batter. I’m used to corn fritters having FLAVOR, and these lacked that. Some bacon, cheese, or peppers or pimento cheese would have really livened this app up a lot. We doused ours with the«Mrs. Beas Spice It Up» sauce that was on the tables(which honestly taste like Mr. Wickles pickles pepper relish, with a Mrs. Beas sticker slapped on it) to liven it up and then dipped it in the ranch… so west coast but meh. it sufficed. For our dinners we ordered the gumbo and their smothered chicken which comes with their bland and sweet tasting collard greens and red beans/rice but for $ 1.50 you can sub it out, which we did to try their Mac n cheese which I regret doing because it really wasn’t worth the up charge. It tasted something more like Stouffer’s mac&cheese. The chicken it self was fried decently and had good seasoning to it, but they totally ruin it by pouring this pasty flour laden substance they call«signature gravy» on top of it. Someone needs to learn how to make real gravy… not paste. Bleh. Fail The gumbo had potential if they just reduced the sauce a bit more, added more crushed tomatoes for texture some okra and well SPICE! Gumbo shouldn’t taste like vegetable soup and your waiter shouldn’t have to offer to bring out Cajun Seasoning from the kitchen and a side of hot sauce to offer you to help spice it up(FYI those things aren’t added after its cooked and just adds salt and changes the taste), also if you are going to put whole crab in it you shouldn’t have to sift through broth and taking it out the shell would be better seeing as how the shells on the shrimp were removed… all in all the dish was definitely not worth $ 18.99…SMH… Fail The waiter came around to ask why I was barely eating and after hearing my less than complimentary critiques offered for me to try what they are known for… The House Waffles. He suggested the Mrs. Beas waffle which is cinnamon and nutmeg mixed into a wheat waffle…(sigh) Oh well. Maybe when we’re really really craving fried chicken and waffles and are in the area… MAYBE, we might return, but at this point… Can’t make any promises.

Arrived on a Friday night, first timer here even though their 3 year anniversary is approaching. We had a short wait before being seated and we were hungry so I placed our order immediately. Ordered the fried chicken entrée, seafood gumbo and the catfish dinner. Everything was delish and Southern tasty authentic — being that the their family roots are from Charleston LA. I really enjoyed the light batter and grease less fried chicken and catfish. The gumbo was better then what I experienced in the French Quarter LA and the collard greens & Mac and cheese were solid too. Only couple of cons were present — the grits could have been a bit more liquidfied and the waiter we had was a bit weak. I had to request my missing corn muffin for my fried chicken entrée and he made the biggest sin of any server — not asking us if I wanted dessert! I could tell he was a newbie and unconfident. Aside from the spotty service I would return here again for just for the solid food!

Omg!!! Omg!!! omg!!! Currently in Unilocaler heaven with new discoveries, Seriously so many hits! Stumbled on this restaurant by taking a scenic tour on Habor Blvd. From Rowland Heights to Disneyland. Once we saw it, we bookmarked to come back soon. After a few hours at Disneyland, starving but the choices had slimmed down the past few years. Even though we planned on staying longer, we decide to make our way back there instead. When we arrived, one of the nfl playoff games were on and it was packed inside. Surprised by the family about 20+ ppls cheering and enjoying the game. It was a bit loud for our comfort but since it was almost done, we just patiently waited for our meal. I asked if she had a table with an outlet near and the lady(owner) made sure I can share my pictures. =) she explained a few popular items on menu and chatted with us as we waited to get seated. She was super friendly and made us feel like we about to join a family dinner. **WARNING: look at the menu to order, they make everything fresh and it does take about 20 mins but appetizers are fairly quick. The menu is quite large as well.** We ordered smoothered fries and corn fritters. We love corn friiters! It was crispy! Omg! Must get the smothered fries! It’s gravy and sautéed onions spread across a bed of fries. It was not soggy and each bite had gravy. It can feed from 2 to 4ppl!!! Yummy! We finished it even though we wanted to wait for the main dishes.(Reminds us of a texture from a viet dish — Bo né: pâté sauce) We decided to both get their signature dish chicken and waffles. I opted for 3 pieces of dark meat chicken with banana nut waffle($ 1.50 surcharge) and my guy got 3 pieces of dark meat with paw paw waffle($ 1.50). The chicken was breaded beautifully and it was very moist on the inside. I swear there was juice coming out from the first bite. The Mac n Cheese was very cheesy and so good. My banana nut waffle was crispy and sweet. I tried it with syrup to taste but it didn’t need it. If this was a dream, I don’t want to wake up. My guys waffle was so good with corn bread, japaleno and cheese but I’m not a fan of savory waffles. He even remembered the dish by name. This is by far the best chicken and waffles we ever had. We have been searching for really good southern food and this is definitely one of the best places. The only downside I believe is it can be a bit pricey but it is worth every penny. Service and food is spectacular! Until we meet again, very soon!

Mrs. Bea’s Louisiana chicken and waffle is definitely LEGIT. The food is amazing and worth the trek from Buena Park. The fried chicken was moist inside and crunchy outside. The different flavors of waffles was a welcome twist and a must try is the banana nut waffle. The chicken takes about 30 minutes to fry, so you know it’s fresh when you order it. Cheese grits and Mac & cheese were good sides. There’s a bit of a wait, but it is so worth it. The owner was very kind and you can tell he trained his wait staff very well.

Came in on a Saturday light trying to grab a bite, we were amazed at the size of the waiting room. The waiting room was packed when many empty tables available inside the dinning area. I was told to expect a wait time for 15 minutes before seated. After an hour, we are seated at a booth. During the time we waited in the waiting room, we observed the hostess standing and strategizing with other hostess in front of at least 5 empty tables. The plates were set by a gentleman with precise execution including placing the condiment in many position before up to his satisfaction. We ordered right away since we have time to decide what we want in the waiting room. We waited another 45 minutes before the food comes out. The food was good. The catfish sandwich is pretty good.

Absolutely love this place. Ive been here twice and each time am blown away by the great food and service. I don’t mind the long drive because the moment I sink my teeth into those corn bread waffles it’s as if all my troubles and worries disappear. So you’re probably thinking I’m exaggerating but no, my friends. I am not. I’ve had the corn fritters(fried buttery dough stuffed with corn), dirty rice rolls(think of a cajun/southern style hand rolled roll), and the corn bread waffles with 2 white meat pieces of fried chicken. The chicken skin is very flavorful and crispy with a soft, juicy inside. The cornbread waffles aren’t too sweet which I love. The cornbread taste isn’t so overwhelming. Dirty rice rolls comes with 2(size of hand rolled sushi) rolls so don’t expect to get it and share with 3+ people. It’s not too pricey and I’d probably pay more than what I paid. I’ve had the same sever for both occasions and he didn’t hesitate to give us tips on the first trip(try not dipping the corn fritters in ranch, it overpowers the taste). 110% recommend.

My son’s told us about Mrs. Bea’s and of course, since I love chicken and waffles we had to try it! We were able to park and walk right into the building! That’s important to me so that was a plus from the beginning. We were seated immediately and our waitress came right over. She asked if this was our first time there and explained about Mrs. Bea’s. We were impressed with the menu and the variety of waffles and side dishes. It took about 25 minutes for our food to be served but it was so well worth the wait. The food is amazing! I also like the idea that there is a Rewards Program. We joined the program and are now receiving the benefits from it. Overall, we loved it and are looking forward to returning more than just every now and then!

We had our hesitations coming here since it Is a small venue and we were such a large group coming for a much delayed holiday Sunday brunch. There were minor mixups in the orders. We were there for over two hours and one of the waiters told us we had to leave to accommodate the next group. We kindly left, not sure if I will be back. To be honest I felt like I was cheating on Roscoes. I came there with an open mind on what to expect on their chicken and waffles but I was not a big fan.

Delicious food, genuine and friendly staff. I’ve had nothing but great experiences here and I look forward to my next visit. Mrs. Bea’s definitely know what they’re doing with chicken and waffles. The cornbread waffle is the perfect pair for their deliciously seasoned and perfectly juicy chicken. I devoured the corn fritters on my first visit. And the side of macaroni and cheese, I couldn’t eat it fast enough. The best mac and cheese I’ve had in recent memory. The only problem is that there are so many choices on the menu and I can’t have them all in one sitting.

The service was exceptional. And the restrooms feel like Disneyland w/the southern instrumentals playing! There’s not much else to say other than CHICKENANDWAFFLES w/more flavored waffles than you can point a fork at! :) What I like best about Mrs. Bea’s is that the fried chicken is not greasy… it’s perfectly broasted/broiled/fried? However you want to say it… delicious and not messy, can’t go wrong w/that! :)

This restaurant opened right on time. The food and service was great. Prices are decent and cheaper compared to Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. The fried chicken takes ~20 minutes to make. The fried chicken was juicy and a little salty. The corn fritters were so delicious and sweet! The waffles are good and there’s different varieties of waffles(signature, chocolate, jalapeño, & more.) Compared to Roscoes, I would say the taste of the food were similar.

Ok it’s my first time here with the hubby. The menu has a lot of choice. The parking lot is big. The restaurant is roomy and comfy. Now the food, let me just say I love the cheesy grits!!! My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. We both agree that the chicken could be seasoned a little better. The waffles are good and the eggs are awesome!!! We will definitely be coming back.

I was excited to find a chicken and waffle spot nearby and heard it was run by Mrs. Bea herself and seemed pretty authentic from the reviews. We came early on a weekday and the place was pretty empty. We were happily greeted by an enthusiastic hostess who explained that everything is made to order so the chicken takes about 20 min to cook, which we had read in all the other reviews as well. We got a booth and ordered the bottomless mimosas(yum!). You get to mix and match the type of waffle, chicken, and side you want. Lots of good looking options. We all got something different, I did the cake batter and the chicken strips with a side of mashed potatoes. We started with the dirty rice rolls which were bomb! The food came out, after what didn’t seem like that long, and it was all decent. I would say though, I wasn’t overwhelmed by any of it. The sides were better than the chicken and waffles I think. Also the plates were way too big, not the portions, the plates. That and the interior looked it was a collection of cheap target decorations. The music was also extremely off putting as it could have easily been jazz and blues but was instead what sounded like Disneyland splash mountain southern hillbilly music. I’m not sure that I would go out of my way to eat here again. It did start to get busy the later we were there. So it’s probably worth checking out if you live in the area.

We came in knowing we would have a wait bur honestly I didn’t understand why. There were plenty of open tables while at least 5 other families were made to wait at least 20 minutes. The owner and one of the waitresses put on a nice show for us while waiting. There was no question they weren’t on the same page. Both were beyond rude to each other while the waitress didn’t bother holding back her profanity in front of us. Once we were served none of that mattered. Everything was good, seasoned perfectly in a decent time, and filling. We will be back for sure.

They have some of the juiciest fried chicken here. It really did knock my socks off! Service was excellent. Our waiter was helpful and kind. Inside was clean and charming. During the week in the afternoon it seems rather quiet. This is a good thing though, when you just want a peace of mind. Got the Dirty Rice Rolls appetizers(handmade rolls stuffed w/rice and ground beef *Note: Mrs. Bea’s Remolade sauce is madness!!:), one 3 piece white w/a jalapeño waffle and one 3 piece white w/a cake batter waffle. The chicken was insanely good. My waffle was too soft and did not taste much like cake batter. Still was eaten though. I think next time I’d ask for a crispier waffle. All in all, this place served it’s purpose that day. It welcomed us and fed us. Good grub! We’d come again.

I came here with high expectations after hearing about it from a friend. I am leaving a disappointed… We had to wait 30 minutes for our food. 30MINUTES! The restaurant wasnt packed but there was one large party of about 15. The waitress did inform us that we might have to wait a little longer than usual because of the large party, but why was it so difficult for them to accommodate in the kitchen when the restaurant wasnt even a full house? I dont think this is a valid excuse… We didnt even order anything fancy but our food took forever! I ordered the waffle breakfast and my bf ordered the chicken waffle breakfast. Both were good but nothing to rave about. I would say the food was an average 4 stars but Im giving this place a 3⁄5 because of the long wait for subpar food. I really wanted to like Mrs. Bea’s… but sorry to say that i probably will not be returning.

Really thought with the overall high rating that this would be a great lunch. It wasn’t. Customer service was good and the music was great, though the general business practices was a total let down. Substitutions? Sure… but it’s gonna cost you big time. Example…the meals…1.50 per substitution. The sandwiches… not happening… you want mac n cheese instead of fries, then you pay 4.99 for the Mac and cheese and don’t get the fries… The food. Collard greens were absolutely the worst I’ve ever tasted… totally couldn’t get past the first bite. The dirty rice rolls. just ok The waffle chicken sandwich was delicious. The Mac n cheese… tasty The corn… tasty The catfish… flavorless…watery… If you have any common dietary restrictions… avoid this place or have some funds to cover your requests. I couldn’t imagine ever returning.

Chicken and waffles! The marriage of 2 of my favorite things! It’s a bit of a drive to get to the restaurant for us but we wanted to try a new Chicken and Waffle place(outside of Roscoe’s) We got seated almost immediately. It took a while to be able to get our order in… Our server had a lot of tables to take care of. We were also warned that the food takes around 20 mins to come out(in reality it’s more like 30 – 40 mins). We ordered the smothered fries for an appetizer. It was just French fries smothered in onions and gravy. Nothing too special, it was decent though! Our main dishes were all the chicken and waffles. What I really liked about this place is that they let us choose the flavor of the waffle. There are 5 for free and 5 for an additional charge of $ 1 to $ 2(ranging). We opted for free alternatives this time: the original(cinnamon and nutmeg), the cake(vanilla batter) and the corn bread. My favorite was definitely the cornbread waffle! Very hardy and crispy!!! The chicken’s breading was crispy and full of flavor. It came out hot and moist. The breast meat wasn’t dry! It does take a loooooong time for the food to come out so I’d recommend not coming hungry lol or perhaps ordering before you arrive?(If possible) Overall, I’d come back… I’d definitely try ordering on the way there so it’ll be ready when I’m seated with my water. I also want to try their more deluxe waffle flavored and their desserts! I heard they have bread pudding! Mmmmm…
