46 South Salon & Spa

I booked an appointment at this salon since I would be in the area. I was a little concerned about whether or not the staff would be snobs as I am not a La Grange soccer mom. Boy, was I pleasantly SURPRISED! I arrived a bit early and waited about 10 minutes. While I waited, I was offered water, coffee, tea, and coffee cake. This was a very warm welcome. My hair was done by Rose– color, highlights, and cut. This young lady was awesome! Great at what she does and very considerate. I can’t wait to go back!

It was (well past) time for my cut and color again, and I received some gift certificates to this salon from another client with the high recommendation that I go to see Ashley. I have to say this salon has aged well and improved over the years I’ve been going.
I made a weekday morning appointment only two days in advance (this salon does get busy on the weekends). When I arrived I was greeted warmly by the stylists and Ashley was available to take me right away. She really talked to me about what I was looking for in a style and color, and what my usual hair styling and maintenance practices were. From there she took charge and fixed my overgrown and graying locks. There was even a nice freebie of either a hand massage or a scalp massage. I went with the hand massage and it was so relaxing.
This is an Aveda salon, and I love the products they use. Ashley told me each step of the way what she was using, how much to use and WHY she was using it, but there was NO PRESSURE to buy anything additional.
Throughout the appointment Ashley made sure to ask if I was comfortable and offered a beverage if I needed one. The other stylists in the salon were very friendly and everyone got along with each other well. It seemed like a nice big stylist family and that extended to the other customers in the chairs. My appointment wasn’t double-​booked or rushed at all.
FWIW, Ashley let me know that in the very near future the salon will be offering new waxing services. They have a new vendor and had training last week, so if you were wary about waxing here in the past, I think it’s worth giving them another shot with the new materials.
Also, the salon is converting from their paper book to computer scheduling. I received a reminder text message a couple hours before my appointment, and I can’t wait to see what other features their new system rolls out.
Overall, this is a great neighborhood salon. It’s been around for quite a few years now, and the owner and stylists seem to have found their groove. I’m looking forward to my next appointment and highly recommend Ashley or Rose, if they are available.

I decided to give this salon a try for a full leg waxing since it’s in my neighborhood. I’m tired of going all the way downtown to find an esthetician (usually through groupon and other discount website). I had an eyebrow, lip, and chin wax done last year during earth day, where the prices were discounted as they were doing donations that day, and i was really happy. I just never went back because I usually travel north for work and got my services done closer to my job.
Well, I needed a quick leg waxing and Kim was able to fit me in rather quickly, I was hesitant with all the reviews on here, but now that i’ve experienced her services for myself, and the salon in general, I have become a convert to 46 South Salon. The waxing was painless, I didn’t get any redness afterwards, the wax used was for sensitive skin. Kim was very thorough, a perfectionist, with the waxing. Oh, and she is very talkative and personable.
All of the women in the salon are really nice. There is a positive and relaxing vibe when you walk in the salon/​spa. I already scheduled another leg waxing appointment with Kim. The prices for the full leg wax were very fair, cheaper than most places I’ve been to.

This place is horrid! DO NOT SEE LANA! She completely botched me! I went in for a trim and all over color. By the end, my hair was uneven and she gave and charged me for highlights. It was so bad I had to go back the next day where the owner looked at me and said «I don’t know what she was thinking, but at least you have a cute face.» She tried to even it out, but it was a lost cause. It was so bad, she had to put extensions in. She had to use so many that she ran out and told me to come in on THURSDAY, 4 DAYS LATER, when she’d have more. I had to cancel due to an emergency. I called that salon for 5 months and never got a call back. Finally, she called back and I told her what had happened and how I’ve been calling and haven’t gotten a call back. Her excuse was, when the same person calls a lot the girls throw the message out because they think it’s a sales call. When I told her I was completely frustrated and even 5 months later my hair was still a mess, she asked me to come in. I told her I just wanted my money back. She said she’s have her husband call me. Well, he is a cocky rude ass who threatened me! he told me I was a liar and just wanted money from him. He told me I was stupid because I should have stopped the payment on my credit card and he shouldn’t have to refund me for my stupidity. He told me I should choose my words carefully when I speak to him. Finally he beat me down so emotionally I started to cry. I told him I wasn’t an idiot, I was in the medical field and don’t appreciate spending my hard earned money on bad services. I don’t need it back, but I shouldn’t have to pay for those «services». I told him about the people that I spoke with, how one had an accent and described the way the others sounded. At that point he said, you must be sincere. Come in and let my wife cut your hair again. He actually said «we loose more money fixing mistakes then we do on hair cuts.» WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME! That place will never touch my hair again and I urge all people thinking about going there to RUN!

Don’t get any waxing done at this place, I got my eyebrows done and they pulled my skin off. I went back again, thinking I just had a bad person. I got someone else and the same thing happened. Awful and painful. Stay far away!!! I tried to contact the manager directly but she didn’t bother to return my call.

I was recommended this salon specifically to see Judith. I called on a Saturday morning and got a same-​day appointment. I was in and out for a cut and style within an hour, and I was very pleased with the result. Judith was very attentive and saw immediately how to give me the results I wanted. I would highly recommend her!
