SIMPLE, CLEANANDUNPRETENTIOUS! After roaming around downtown and not being able to locate a SIMPLE breakfast restaurant, we ended up at Shoney’s. I was a bit concerned at first but relaxed when I realized that I did not have to settle for the breakfast bar and could get a nice vegetable omelet. My husband decided on the bar and filled up on scrambled eggs, a pancake, ham, breakfast potatoes, sausage and gravy, biscuits, hash browns and grits. Yes, he went in! When it comes to eating breakfast away from home, I prefer to keep it simple. Overall the ham, bacon, mushrooms and potatoes were too salty, the pancake was not good because it was not made from scratch as he is accustomed to, and the grits had a strange taste. However, he did seem to enjoy the other items, especially the sausage. I ordered the vegetable omelet with cheddar cheese, biscuits and breakfast potatoes. It took a while for the omelet to be prepared but that was okay because it was being made fresh. When it arrived, I noticed that it had a slice of American cheese melted over the top, I had to send it back. I could hear them debating my order in the kitchen and when I approached the hostess to double check THEIR description of the omelet she stated that it should have come with cheddar cheese and that they had made a mistake. No problem, I return to my seat to wait. Meanwhile, I ate the delicious biscuits with strawberry jam and enjoyed conversation with my hubby. When the corrected order finally arrives, my omelet is perfect: It is cooked perfectly with no color, there is no cheese on the outside, the veggies were perfectly prepared and had a nice crisp texture, the veggies are fully incorporated with the cheese and eggs. It was delicious and I really enjoyed it. On the other hand, the breakfast potatoes were a miss because they were not fresh and tasted as if they had been deep fried. They also were over seasoned and a bit salty. Yes, I would return for the biscuits and omelet and I would even consider a piece of sausage which was actually nicely flavored and not greasy. A nice option for a simple and unpretentious breakfast.

The food was«fair» but the waitress had a slight attitude and very inattentive. Even tho it was relatively slow she never picked up the dirty dishes and another waitress refilled our water. She walked by us and said«what is this?» instead of «may I refill your drink?». There seemed to be attitude with all the women. It must be a horrible place to work for sure. Our last visit to Shoneys was at the Powell location and we swore we would never go back. Todays trip verified that to be true. Cheddars and Texas Roadhouse were about the same price and the food and service are so much better. I am over eating at places that don’t serve decent food and have great service. Why waste my money there? Do not go to this restaurant. You will be disappointed.
