We just tried this food truck for the first time at the last night of the International Biscuit Festival by the Tennessee theater. It was honestly really delicious. My husband had the Square Meal, which changes constantly but tonight was some delicious over easy eggs with YUMMY chorizo and pickled onions plus a fresh arugula salad, and I had the Egg Banjo. Another set of solidly good eggs over more solidly good arugula, a pickled slaw and a cheese that tasted like the fresh goat curds we get at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market in San Francisco. The potatoes that came with it were cooked perfectly: not to crispy, and just soft enough. I did not find the sandwich to be small at all; the yummy spelt bread was larger than the palm of my hand, and with the potatoes was a good meal. Try the donuts, the Strawberry Rhubarb with Cream Cheese glaze was AWESOME! Coming from a city that has some pretty great food trucks, I have to say their concept is quite unique and delicious! In terms of this food truck being too expensive, I’m sure I have a different scale of expensive coming from California. But for farm fresh and locally sourced ingredients I’m willing to pay the extra dough.

Yum! Mister Canteen serves fresh, delicious food sourced straight from the farm. We literally ordered everything on the menu and started our dinner with their ridiculously good spelt donuts. They do a great job of preparing food that is seasonal, flavorful and comforting. The service was great and the Mister Canteen gals are so friendly.

Four points for the food, I took half a star away for the wait although I think it was just my luck to order right as the fries ran out. Another half star went away cause of the serving size. Mister Canteen is a new food truck Knoxville is blessed to have. They probably hang out other places but can be found at the Food Truck row at the downtown Farmer’s market on Saturday from 9 – 2. They pretty much utilize products from their family owned farm and make delicious meals out of it. I was very happy when I checked out their website and saw their chickens are free roaming instead of being cramped up in tiny cages. They are also largely non GMO and organic. I got the Egg Bango, which was essentially an egg sandwich served on this really delicious bread with a lot of wonderful accessories, including sauer kraut, basil and slaw. It also had this really yummy aioli sauce. My mouth is watering as I remember how good it was. I missed out on the fries cause they ran out. I actually waited almost 25 minutes for my meal before they told me they were out of fries. It was supposedly going to be ready in a few more minutes but I opted to eat the sandwich without the fries. They did give me $ 2 back for the fries though. Only gripe. It was a tiny tiny sandwich that I paid $ 8.00 for($ 10 with fries). I know it is all organic and stuff but I felt $ 6($ 8 with fries) was probably a more reasonable price. Will this keep me from going back? Absolutely not. I plan to head back this weekend, hopefully for the same sandwich but anything else would do if they decide to change their menu. It was a great experience and hope they are going to hang around Knoxville for a very long time! p.s They also serve donuts but I didn’t get to try them cause they were out. I usually don’t eat doughnuts but something tells me I want to try their doughnuts. Will provide an update later!
