When you walk into New York Pizza World, the first thought is «Do I wait to be seated or just seat myself?» … Thankfully that uncertainty soon abated into an older gentleman asking if we had a seating section preference. Lacking the former, we were quickly escorted to a cozy booth with a picture of the twin towers above it, and the brooklyn bridge across from us. It felt like home, but the 100 and some degree mid-may weather in the sunshine state was aching to remind us that we were 1000 miles from home. I quickly ordered the all you can eat pasta lunch special I saw on the sign outside while driving past the night before on the way home from the boardwalk at Universal Studios. I had insisted to my then boyfriend, and then bestfriend(neither of whom I talk to anymore, but the memory of New York Pizza World lingers on) that we must eat there. It didn’t take long into ordering for the owner, who was serving us himself, to notice that my EX-boyfriend and I had pretty thick New York accents. He began asking us where we were from, and making small talk with us about life back in THECITY. He expressed that he missed the city, but the climate in Florida is unbeatable in the continental US(note: I said continental. Hawaii pwns Florida any day). Our food was ready relatively fast, considering that everything was freshly prepared; and the photos of the city on the wall gave us good conversation topics while we were waiting. Being New Yorkers, the owner hooked us up with a lot of extras free of charge. He was such a sweetie, and I think he was VERY happy to see people from the city. We got coupons and discount cards and everything. We ended up eating there all 3 days we were in Orlando, before we left and headed for the Gulf Coast. I promised next time I’m in Orlando I would stop by and fully inted to keep that promised. If for nothing more than the all you can eat pasta lunch special!
