Snooty, ridiculously overpriced. Menu is a joke. If you’re over 25, and just want to have a drink with a friend, don’t bother, You’ll be ignored. Meat market.

I can’t say enough about the Stockade! No matter when we have come here, we have experienced exemplary customer service, consistency, ambiance, cleanliness, and a whole lot of fun. From drinks, to appetizers, to plates, and desserts, everything has been mind-blowing, delicious, and flavorful. The old building and view out the window takes you back in time. The owner always takes the time to talk to you and make sure everything is fabulous. The staff are always on top of checking on your table, and everything is very fast. Whenever we are having a date night, meeting a friend, or just hanging out, we won’t setting for anything less than the Stockade!

Great drinks, awesome and tasty bar food, HORRIBLE service. Takes forever to get a drink either at the bar or with a waiter/waitress when the place is full. Atmosphere is sweet; it’s in a nice section of Kingston and they can pack it in on the weekends. If you can stand waiting forever for your cocktails, this place is a treat.

This is absolutely one of the best taverns in the Hudson Valley, and worth visiting no matter how far away in the area you live. Their cocktail list is amazing, it’s fun to watch them make your drink and some very beautiful vintage touches all over the interior. On this recent visit I shared a cheese plate with a friend and it was phenomenal; so well put together with the balance of flavor and interesting combinations. Hands down love this place!

Great place to have a date. Very intimate, romantic setting. Drinks are phenomenal, crafted nicely, and worth every dollar. Their pretzels and apple cider doughnuts are amazing and a great complement to a nice mixed drink. The owner of the bar is great and tries to talk to everyone sitting at the bar, makes everyone feel welcomed. Will definitely be coming back whenever I’m in the area.

Drinks – amazing. Not cheap, but well mixed, delicious, and not skimpy on the liquor. My personal favorites are the punches they often have as specials. They’re served in these cut little crystal glasses. Service is also top notch. Paul, the owner, makes a point to make conversation with us every time we’re in there, and he’s very friendly. We went here on New Year’s Eve one year and it was quite a party – the bartenders pouring shots and putting on a fancy show for everyone. Ambiance is great, you can sit at the bar, at a high-top table, or in a cozy booth. It does get really, really crowded here on weekend nights or holidays, but it’s understandable, since it’s easily the best bar in Kingston.

The Stockade is a great bar. And not just by Hudson Valley standards. You could plunk it down in NYC and it will still be a standout. The building itself is beautiful with high tin ceilings and a beautiful and sizeable bar. The bartenders are talented. They can make a mean cocktail and Charcuterie. They display local art, which I think was done by the owner. It’s pretty impressive, actually. This is THE bar in Ulster County.

Amazing cocktails. My first drink was the Mary cocktail. Horseradish infused vodka and celery. Quite different. My second drink was the lights out cocktail. If you like rum vanilla and lemon. Go for it! My girlfriend had the ginger blossom. Also excellent Everything on the menu is good. We come back every year.

I ordered a really simple drink because it was early and I really just wanted to sit and check out the place. I became enchanted sitting in this simple but very beautiful room and reading the interesting menu, and watching the bartender pour drinks. I made a vine that is still getting tons of views and retweets a month later. I will return and have a «real» drink as soon and I get a chance. But whoever created this tavern did a great job.

Uptight bar with a rude owner and overpriced drinks. Avoid at all costs. Bathroom was disgusting.

Love this place! Old fashion for days! I could sit in this place all day sipping on a cocktail and reading a book. This may be my favorite bar EVER! Always a good time and always a drink to remember. Enjoy!

One of my all time favorite spots. A true craft place, not the kind of establishment I’d order a rum and coke in, and that’s because I feel there’s a hundred better options for libations here. That being said, if you’re not in the mood for a specialty drink and just want good camaraderie this place is not too snooty to pop open a Bud for you. The company I’ve met and the staff here have always made Stockade a warm and inviting place. Whenever I’m in Kingston, which is about twice a month, I try to stop in. Everything is quality, from the atmosphere and the staff, to the carefully designed menu. And if you know what kind of spirit you like but don’t have a clue what cocktail to order they’ll usually suggest something. And in my anecdotal experience asking the bartender to «surprise» you rarely ends in disappointment.

Came back to the Stockade and had a much better experience. It wasn’t as crowded this time so I got a seat at the bar. Ordered some delicious drinks and some great food — charceuterie, cheeses etc. Delicious! The Sardines were a major highlight as well. Great limited menu for a bar. THe drins, again, were excellent. The service was WAY better than my last visit but when they got really busy there were still some struggles but I would definitely come back now and revise my previous review.

Excellent food. Great charm. Free poodle(to pet,) solid draught selections, and a mixed crowd. Sunday’s, half of everything is closed but not the stockade bar. Warm atmosphere and cooling dark tones set off the interior. The staff is top notch. Get in there. Trust me.

If you are like me, you take some very important things for granted. My favorite dress that makes me feel like a million bucks? I never think of thanking it for fitting me so well. The shoes I can walk all day in without thinking twice? They don’t get my gratitude. When things feel so right and comfortable and make us feel so good we have a tendency to accept it as a given rather than a gift. And that’s why I have been remiss in reviewing the Stockade Tavern. It’s a place that just makes you feel good inside — and that’s before the drinks! The space is woody and vintage, but modern. No tchotchkes or anything — just a pretty open room with two big booths, various sized tables and a great bar. Sit anywhere! There is table service and I saw many happy customers — but WBF(Wonderful Boy-friend) and I always sit at the bar. And we always meet people! All kinds of people! I take issue with the previous reviewers who keep bringing up «hipsters». Are there young, fashion-y/arty/I’m in(or with) the band types there? Sure! Are there people under 30? Yup! Lots of beards? Oh indeed! But there are plenty of people who are over 30, most definitely not with a band and have straight jobs and kids and regular, non-exciting lives. So if you have read these reviews and though that maybe you aren’t «hip» enough to try the Stockade Tavern — think again. So once you decide table or bar you will get a menu. Take your time — it is a lot to take in! I can say that I am definitely a drinks adventurer! I love odd seeming combinations and really strong tastes. This has led me down some… interesting paths. I have never been less than totally thrilled with any drink I have had here. These are true experts — cocktail savants — putting together the menu. EVERYTHING tastes good. What I love is that I can have something very complex to start and then ask one of the bartenders(Paul is Fantastic! But they are all very skilled) what would be a good follow-up. What a great way to go! I am now hooked on a drink called The Martinez! And the food! Few bars with great cocktails have such tasty food. We had the pâté —(delicious) and the roast beef sandwich. Oh my — that sandwich was incredible — and the perfect hot, salty, toasty cheesy bite to have with a cocktail. My only issue with it is that the morning after we ate it WBF woke up and began talking about how he could really go for another one of those roast beef sandwiches instead of greeting me with sweet wake-up words. Ladies — you have been warned. So — if you are in or near Kingston, NY(and by near I mean within an hour away) and have a craving for a great drink in a convivial atmosphere where you will meet interesting people and munch on great food you owe it to yourself to get to the Stockade Tavern. You will be basking in a feeling of profound well being within 10 minutes of taking a seat. Just remember to be grateful!

Holy Hipsters Batman — are people moving from Williamsburg to Kingston and no one told me? Don’t get me wrong — very cool vibe — even if I wasn’t wearing skinny jeans(actually, I was) and I don’t have a beard. Drinks were fabulous — reasonable priced and absolutely delish… oh, and we sat at a table in the back(4 of us; 2 couples) and had fabulous table service so perhaps the reviews calling this a negative made some positive changes. If you haven’t been — GO

Overpriced drinks with a lame want to be NYC attitude. Don’t get me wrong I like a well made cocktail but I don’t feel one should cost 14 $ and take a detailed recipe to make. That’s just my personal opinion. Mostly out of town, hipster, artsy Brooklyn types as far as crowd goes. Not a fun or enjoyable place at all. But as for its location it’s great for what it is. Due to the fact that it meets the needs of the uptown Kingston crowd.

Amazing drinks from a tremendously talented bar tender. Drinks are consistently amazing. Service in my experience has been fairly consistent, that is utterly lacking. Unless you sit at the bar, you are forgotten. On numerous occasions I’ve had one drink due to this. Tonight was the Kingston Block Party and we walked in around 8pm. The bar itself was full but the tables were not. After being served water and given menus we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order. Needless to say I walked out and I won’t be back anytime soon. I’m tired of the lack of service. Again sit at a table and be warned your service may be little to nonexistent. You’ve be warned…

I WISH this place was in DC. It is honestly awesome. It is a old school speakeasy. I hate the term«mixologist», but if anyone is deserving of that title, it is the folks at Stockade. I’ve only been one time, but it was a great experience. It was hopping. Easily one of the best bars I have been to.
