So sad. My favorite lunch spot off highway 99 has passed away. I was anticipating the smoke salmon and cucumber open faced sandwich. Now it’s a purse boutique.

Everyone at the table loved the food. The Decker is a huge and delicious sandwich with chicken and ham. The Nordic is a Scandinavian delight with smoked fish. The Nutty Garden is a vegetarians dream sandwich, but you can add chicken for an extra $ 1.50. Besides being impressed by the food, and the complimentary brownie just delivered to the table, the service is outstanding. Super friendly staff who had our food on the table quicker than a fast food restaurant.

Really good food, good service. We had the spicy chicken, one with the gluten free bread which was really tasty. We drive down 99 often and is definitely stop again.

Horribly slow service. I’ve tried this place twice now and it’s always the same. But I will say the food was good.

Kingsburg and the Stockholm Café are a real gem in the Central Valley! I was in search of a place to stop along my journey to Madera. Before my departure from So Cal I looked for a good place where I could have some lunch. I didn’t want to eat junk food along the way like you see at each exit. I wanted something unique and tasty. I found it here! I had the Scandinavian sandwich. This sandwich was on bread with a spread and cured salmon topped with fresh dill with some lemon wedges on the side. I took one bite and loved it. It was fresh. I particularly liked the cured salmon. I have tried many and they are usually too salty to even eat. Not here! The plate came with a salad and tiny cookie. It was plenty of food and good for you too. To go I took a cookie of each type that was in their bakery counter. I had some giant white one, a persimmon, a white one with red jelly on top, some tart looking thing with raisins. They were all great! I didn’t order coffee but my aunt did and i tried it. It didn’t need sugar or cream that’s how good their coffee was. I never drink coffee without cream and sugar but theirs I can! I now regret not buying a cup. They also sell it ground up if you want to make it at home. I also regret not buying a bag. They have a cool shop where you can buy other goodies. All very tempting. The service was very good and they were very friendly and attentive. If I’m ever in the area I will definitely stop by again!

I was expecting the buzz and gaiety of Solvang but found an underwhelming imitation by this Swedish«village» which was basically a street with some Scandinavian establishments. This bakery/deli looked small from the outside but is actually bigger when you step in. The girl at the counter seemed unhappy with her job or was it just our simple traveling garb. When asked about the price of the cheese she condescendingly answered«oh, that’s expensive.» B!@t€# I did not ask that of you. And $ 23 is just 20 minutes of my time charting on someone. Save your time, money and effort, go straight for Solvang and it’s many bakeries, delis and what nots.

Being a longtime fan of the Danish town of Solvang, I had wanted to try Kingsburg to see what the Swedish equivalent was. We stopped at the Stockholm Bakery and Café, a quaint place filled with Swedish foods and pastries to take out. The Café is the«order at the counter and they will bring it to you», which is just fine in my book. One look at the menu and I knew this was the real thing. too many choices! We started off with an appetizer of pickled herring, a delight which I love and have had many places. Served with crisp bread on the side, this may have been the best herring I have ever had. I asked the woman(I am assuming the owner) and she said she imported it from Sweden. Well, that certainly makes a difference. It was not fishy, rather a little briny a little sweet and with that taste of the sea that tells you it was done right. We split the Malmo Combination and the Scandinavian sandwich. The Malmo was a very good Swedish kolet korv brat, served with a good dose of Swedish mustard and lots of yummy sauerkraut. It was tasty with a good contrast of flavor. A small side salad and an excellent little anise cookie completed the plate. I do have to say, also, this is one of the very few places of this type and size where presentation is really thought out. the plates were beautiful. The Scandinavian Sandwich was the bomb. A generous portion of the smoked salmon was accompanied by thin sliced cucumber, a lemon wedge and dill. It was served open faced on some sort of Swedish bread that was thin, not too soft so it held together and provided the perfect base for the sandwich. Whoever cured the salmon knew what they were doing; it was not too sweet or salty, allowing the flavor of the salmon to shine through. for beverages, we chose a bottle of Lingonberry soda and one of Swedish Christmas soda. The Lingonberry soda was good but a little sweet for a meal accompaniment. The Christmas Soda, however, I could drink by the gallon. Similar to sarsaparilla, it had the perfect blend of sweet, bitter and tangy. Absolutely delicious! After lunch, we did a little last-minute shopping. Scottie Shortbread cookies(no, Angus Ashley McTavish, you are NOT getting one) and marzipan fruits walked out the door with us. All in all, an excellent experience and a place I would highly recommend when driving down Highway 99. An excellent stop with excellent food!

My friends and I stumbled into the quaint town of Kingsburg on our way home(long way home) from Yosemite to LA. So glad we found this cute place! Ambience: The café is really cute and screams Sweden. I felt as if I was thrown into a time capsule and sent back to Sweden in early 1900s. It’s very tranquil, cozy and welcoming :) Food: I had the Traditional Scandinavian sandwich. There was an array of sandwiches to choose from but I figured I should get the Traditional Scandinavian since I was in a town rich with Swedish history and architecture. I was just drawn to it :) And glad I was! The open-faced sandwich was beautifully presented. Smoked salmon was not overly salty and was perfectly balanced with the whipped cream cheese. The portion was good but I advise you to choose another item to complete your meal if you are really hungry. Maybe something from their bakery. I didn’t get to try any of the cookies or pastries so I unfortunately cannot provide a review for them. Service: There were two ladies working but I think only one actually made the meals for my group. The service was a tad slow but I didn’t mind so much because once my plate came out it was evident that she put in a lot of TLC :) Again, the presentation was really nice! If you find yourself on a road trip along Hwy 99, stop by Stockholm Bakery & Café and let the lovely ladies there make you a nice sammich. Afterwards, walk off your meal around town and do some sightseeing :) …or go to the nearest IKEA restaurant!

I had my wedding cake baked here for my wedding this past weekend. My cake was very affordable and my cake was made to be the most delicious and most beautiful wedding cake I have ever seen! We had a four tier cake with buttercream. Two tiers had fudge filling and the other two tiers had fresh strawberry filling. We had tons leftover and I have been eating it nonstop(the calories are soooo worth it). I am so happy with their work and I’m recommending them to all of my friends because they were easy to work with and I could not have imagined a better, more perfect cake for my wedding. Thank you Stockholm Bakery, you are wonderful!

Unexpectedly good bakery/café! The best Vanilla latte I’ve had in a long time. Minus one star because I had to stand at the counter for a while waiting to be served. If you aren’t going to have someone out front, you should probably have a little bell or something.

Was in town running errands, realized I’ve never been in stockholm. I decided I would see what they have. I purchased a brownie, and a scone for my wife. Both were delicious… although I found a small hair in my brownie.

Their Spicy Lingonberry Chicken Sandwich is delish! It came with a small salad and a cookie. I have heard their hot chocolate is amazing, but have yet to try it. I’ve tried buying Orange Rye Bread there before, but didn’t realize in time that they no longer had it «day of» like they did the first time I went in. I guess they order it from somewhere in advance? Their Swedish selection of jams, sauces, etc. is nice, but can be pricey. They do make nice gifts!

I LOVE to eat and I am extremely upset at my experience. DONOT go here for cupcakes. I research weeks in advance and wanted something closer to home that I could travel to on my lunch. I wanted Chocolate Ganache cupcakes for my boyfriends bday so I ordered half a dozen all chocolate three with custard in the middle, two with ganache in the middle, and one with chocolate mousse in the middle. Honestly a hostess cupcake is better than these. I dont even cook or bake and my cupcakes were better than these(according to my coworkers). I had 5 coworkers try them. They were DRY and SPONGY. I paid $ 1.85 for a small cupcake, to me thats alot and I expect them to be good. When I called to complain the manager said Ganache cupcakes are usually $ 4.she kept focusing on that when I was telling her they were crap… I wouldnt take them if they were free. Customer service when I ordered and picked up was great but customer service resolving my issuing by compensating me in some way… sucked! The scandanavian sandwich is yummy, pricey but yummy. The take FOREVER but the personality of the employees is what makes the customer service good. I work in Fowler and spent two of my lunches driving all the way to Kingsburg using gas and wasting my time. My time is very valuable… on my lunch I volunteer my time taking care of rescue dogs and I had to cut that short. I researched it to make sure the cupcakes were good and make sure my boyfriend liked this extra surprise gift, he loves ganache. HORRIBLEMISTAKE. Ganache wasnt that great, custard was worse than hostess filling, actual cupcake was dry and spongy. YUCK, never again! I would expect more from Kingsburg. I regret not trying the new cupcake place in Selma but will now.

This is the only place in town(besides the Starbucks of course) that serves espresso drinks, and also has the best atmosphere in town. I grew up in Kingsburg and had this place existed when I was in school, I would’ve made this place my second home. Its a wonderfully peaceful place to sit and read during the mid morning and mid-afternoon when others arent lunching. They have a decent selection of Swedish imported specialty food along with many other homemade treats, but the real winner here is the lingonberry shortbread. Its seriously to die for.

Road tripping down 99 I’ve often wondered about the signs for a Swedish village in the central valley town of Kingsburg. Recently, my curiosity and desire for an iced coffee on my long drive from San Diego to Sacramento got the better of me. A quick drive off the freeway and you find yourself in a cute downtown strip. A few nice murals and dala horses point to the heritage of the town’s population. Don’t be fooled by the quiet street. Things that didn’t look open on first glance were, in fact, open and happy to have our business. The cute, well-kept interior of Stockholm Bakery looked promising, so we stopped in for a coffee and some sugar-powered energy to keep us going on our drive. The owner was very nice and served up a cup of decaf iced coffee that far surpassed anything I could have procured from the Starbucks down the road. We also took a mini banana cream pie with us that was perfectly creamy, not overwhelmingly sweet, and featured lots of real banana(none of that banana flavoring junk). For the sake of this sleepy little town and my future road trips, I hope that the Stockholm Bakery Café survives.

I came from out of town with a friend for the Blossom Trail. At the end of our day, we stopped by Kingsburg for a late lunch. I ordered the Scandinavian sandwich, which is an open face sandwich, topped with smoked salmon, cucumber slices and a sprig of dill. The sandwich was garnished with a slice of lemon. The amount of smoked salmon was generous and the classical smoked/salty flavor was wonderful. My friend ordered a spicy chicken sandwich. The chicken itself was lightly spiced to give it a hint of spiciness. A slice of cheese and a sweet jam provided a sweet balance to the savory of the chicken. It was quite good. Both sandwiches came with a side salad, beautifully decorated with a long slice of carrot, and lightly dressed in an Italian dressing, as well as a small square of raspberry tart. We both ordered a mocha cannoli. It was not too sweet, which I like. The crust tasted a little too dry. The owner carefully dotted several dots of chocolate on the plate to serve our cannoli. We greatly appreciate that effort.

I love love love this new bakery/café in town and really hope it survives in the tough economy and even tougher downtown market. Everything I’ve tried in the bakery case has been fantastic. Hubby took me here for a special Valentine’s dinner and it was TODIEFOR. Honestly, one of the top 10 meals I’ve ever had. The Pecan Chicken was… sinfully delicious. My ultimate compliments to the guest chef for the night. The staff is wonderful and friendly. The décor is classy and comfortable. The hours are good for a downtown store too. I will more than likely be popping in here for many a cookie in the future. Please support them as they start out!
