Enjoyed a very tasty Cuban sandwich from Ana’s on the Key West Express back to Fort Myers! Our group of four decided to grab something to go before boarding, because the food on that boat is subpar. We were in the mood for one last little piece of Key West and thought a Cuban sandwich would be perfect. Ana’s is right around the corner from the butterfly conservatory and only about a mile from the boat dock, so it was a great location for us. It didn’t take long for them to prepare the sandwiches, and we all ordered different varieties(some no mayo, some no mustard, etc.) so I appreciated that they marked each sandwich so we could tell them apart. They also loaded the bag with lots of napkins. By the time we ate the sandwiches on the boat they were probably 2 hours old, and even a bit soggy they were very tasty. The bread was nice and fresh and the pork was also savory. We also purchased some gum and drinks, and my only suggestion would be to check the expiration dates — my gum had expired in 2015. Oops!

I decided to make a pit stop at Ana’s on our long day of bike riding through the Keys for a little more liquid energy. I ordered a tall Café con Leche. Within minutes I had a delicious tall cup of sweet, hot coffee in my hand. I did not try the food here, but the sandwiches seemed very popular and looked downright delicious. I hope my reviews help you fellow travelers out.

The service I received from the outside ordering window was impeccable. They were prompt and the woman I ordered from was sweet and lovely. Now the reason they get 2 stars: I made the mistake of going inside the convenient store first where I was greeted with a confused look. I went up the the counter where a menu and deli was and asked for a Cuban to go from the man behind the counter. He then translated this request into Spanish for the woman actually making the Cuban. At first, I thought I should have probably ordered in Spanish but I didn’t want to assume. They looked at me like I was lost and the man who translated was standoffish and rude. IF I was supposed to go outside and order then tell me so. IF people aren’t supposed to order Cubans INSIDE the convenient store, then don’t have a damn menu and deli with someone twiddling her f*cking fingers as if she needs something to do. Also, to that same man: you were SO nice to the tatted Caucasian couple in front of me but gave me nothing but attitude when it was time for ME to check out –I guess we Latinos really are just crabs in a barrel huh? By the way sweetheart, you’re the one working at a convenient store and I’M the one who walked over from the Waldorf Astoria while on vacation. Let that one sink it. THANKS!

Delicious! Everything tastes so fresh and the people behind the counter were very kind and quick. We haven’t found a nice spot to just grab an inexpensive sandwich anywhere in Key West. And we’ve never stopped here because we thought it was more of a grocery. I’m so glad we stopped! Sandwich, chips, and a Coke. The perfect lunch.

Plantains for me and Key Lime Pie for the wifey? Whoooo hooo! Double winners! I also love their coffee, but I was in the mood for some good plantains. I love sweet plantains and outside of Florida I haven’t found any that I adore. Ana’s are the best. If you’ve never tried them, wait until you come here. Order a side(plenty for a snack) and dig in. WARNING — they come straight off the cooktop, so poke a few holes or cut them in half or you will burn your mouth. If you burn your mouth, it’s still worth it. The Key Lime Pie was good but frozen so much it almost had a popsicle vibe to it. The service was great — my order was ready promptly and they called out my name and brought it straight to us. We found a comfy spot to settle and watch the passing tourists while we ate. We weren’t there too long as the snacks were ready quickly. I inhaled mine quickly and we set back off on our adventures. Drop by if you’re close and and try the plantains!

I am generally a black coffee drinker(apparently this says a lot about my personality: ), but I knew I had to try the Café Con Leche from Ana’s! It does NOT disappoint and in fact, its kinda incredible! The Café con leche is perfectly balanced being thick and creamy, with caramel sweetness and complex coffee bitterness — it really is an excellent way to have coffee. I went for a medium and glad I did because a large may have been too much — the flavor is so rich and satisfying it took me a while to get through a cup. We went early in the day a little after sunrise and the line was already 3 people deep and growing — so be warned this place is popular in the morning. They work fast as they can to get out the orders, but the guy taking the orders also makes the coffee — it tends to be a process. So have patience and it will be rewarded!

The café con leche we got was good… but the service was NOT. The guy at the window was very grim. I asked a few questions and he gave just one word answers… short and unhappy. I went inside to the grocery and deli to see if I could find something to eat and the lady inside was again, just not too friendly. It’s a shame that people can be so unhappy in such a beautiful setting like Key West… this store is just a few block from the beach… maybe they went thru a few hurricanes and they are still sad and upset about them…

This local store and eatery is just a wonderful nonexpensive treat from some of the over priced food on the resort areas of Key West. A must place to eat when on the southern side of the island. There is nice clean seating outside and you can people watch while catching a sea breeze

This place is amazing. So glad it is behind my hotel. I tweeted a keywest foodie about the best Cuban coffee. Man they were right on! They have American coffee as well. Don’t stress they are thorough and will explain the differences and all. A great place. The food is amazing. It’s also… don’t laugh… but the food is pretty! I’m regretting not taking pictures. They even sell the Cuban coffee for your to take home! YOUWILLLOVETHISPLACE!
