The Captain’s Restaurant

We are vacationing — two families of four with four small children, including two babies less than one year. After getting the cold shoulder at a couple other nearby restaurants, we went to the Captains and they couldn’t have been nicer, friendlier and more accommodating. More importantly the food was great and reasonably priced. Lobster rolls were great, great kid menu options, delicious desserts, fresh baked dinner rolls… A great experience. Give the other places a pass and head straight to the Captains.

Hands down the greatest thing about this place is the service. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond to make you feel like you are eating in their home.
The restaurant itself is very no-​fuss and simple. We went for dinner and the food is delicious. The seafood is all caught locally, typically that day or just a couple days prior. It is no nonsense comfort food and definitely worry very penny. Also, definitely save room for dessert!
It is BYOB and family friendly!

This is a review of breakfast at The Captain’s. They’ve just started serving breakfast and had only been serving it for a few days when we went. Omelets, french toast, and blueberry pancakes were very good, but the home fries were partially cold and seemed to have not been reheated completely. Cooked through, but not all warmed. There are no hash browns and no corned beef hash on the menu. We had to ask for our coffee to be refilled when the restaurant was about half empty. Coffee was okay (which can’t be taken for granted in this part of the country) but it wasn’t as good as I’ve come to expect from a coffee shop. I think they still need to get their act together but the food was tasty and the location is nice.
This is a place that will drive math majors crazy. On one side of the menu, if you add bacon to an omelet it’s $ 2. On the other side if you add bacon to your eggs, it’s $ 8. The french toast was described as «A roll cut in half so you get four pieces.» I had no idea what that meant (think about it) but when the french toast showed up, there were actually three pieces.
Our waitress was pleasant but seemed less than confident, I’m thinking that serving breakfast was new for her. I’m sure they’ll be good once they develop more of a routine and I applaud them for giving breakfast a shot.

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. The Captain’s has welcomed my family for decades and I never go a year without enjoying their hot boiled lobster. If you are looking for the best lobster in Maine, this should be your first stop. You’ll get an amazing lobster, traditionally prepared, at a very reasonable price. Tourists, locals, doesn’t matter. When you’re here, you’re family.

Going to cut to the chase— amazing triple berry crisp! Apart from dessert, seafood selection is excellent and each dinner ordered was perfectly cooked. Batter for fried haddock and clams was light and delicious. Service was fantastic and BYOB makes the Captain’s a true value

Ambiance is casual and the waitresses are friendly. The foot long lobster roll was delicious — mayo on the side was a nice move. It’s cash only and a BYOB so prepare for those curve balls ahead of time.

I had not been to The Captain’s since I was a child. I went tonight with a friend. It was good. I had the baked stuffed lobster. It was good, not as good as The Landing’s or Hurricane’s, but good. The hand-​cut French fries were excellent. The rolls and dinner salad were okay.
