Catfish Mike’s

Only reason I decided to come here for lunch was because it’s only 5 minutes from my office & because of the
coupon I came across for this spot. What a great deal — I tried. I liked it! the food was pretty good. I also liked how, perhaps the manager??? was walking around asking all the tables how is everything. I’ll be back.
We ordered the fried pickles — large bowl of gumbo — 2 fried catfish baskets — 1 side of fried oysters.
Miscommunication between me & my server — an order of bacon wrapped shrimp came out. looked gooood! And with no hesitation from our server we unfortunately returned it (my umm bf doesn’t eat shrimp) & waited for our gumbo and fried pickles.
Largeee bowl of hot steamy gumbo came out. I thought the flavor and aroma was very pleasant. But then realized it was definitely a bit too salty & the rice was kind of crunchy and perhaps undercooked? So I counted and ate all 6 plump juicy shrimp from the soup & he ate all the yummy chunks of catfish. There were bits and pieces of sausage in there too. I didnt notice anything else.
Fried pickles — the batter was good. nothing special though. Came with a Cajun Ranch dipping sauce which was quite tasty.
We each got 2 huuuuge pieces of fried catfish. It’s Catfish Mike’s! That’s their signature dish! So it better be good! and Mm mm it surely was. Flakey & tender on the inside & golden brown & crispy on the outside. There was so much, we both didn’t even eat half of our meals. We got dinner now! With the baskets you get to choose from fries or dirty rice. The fries were pretty standard and eghh i guess the dirty rice really didn’t do it for me. Each basket came with 2 hush puppies too. Kind of small but wonderful flavor! perfectly cooked. The coleslaw that was ALSO included was IMO better than other slaws I’ve had recently.
Fried Oysters — were fat! =] really good. I guess the batter they use for everything is a wiiiinner.
Got there around 12:15PM with only 2 other tables filled & by 1 or so, it was pretty much packed. Small comfy place. I would say theres less than 15 tables in there. Maybe 12 or 13.
another plus — they got free WiFi! I always get excited for that.
There were I believe 2 other restaurants in that location before that I knew of. (never been) Obviously didnt do too well though. I think Catfish Mike’s will be here to stay!
